CHRONOLOGY OF MAGIC - every step of going up in a hot air balloon was a little shocking. The fire to start, the fire to lift. The view of balloons on a smoggy foggy morning over Teotihuacán. The landing, fingers crossed, dragging the basket into a truck, the wrap up.

This first person had found some jasmine and was sharing it with the folks around them. The second person pictured here was showing up even when it was controversial. The third is a child taking a small break from holding their sign and having the chance to be a kid — something I want to be possible for Palestinian children.

HAPPY NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY, it makes sense to me that this is an annual event, probably because I’m always coming out again and again. It’s a privilege to come out, come home, come in, stay a while.

AND I AM TIRED, AND TODAY I WORKED AND TOMORROW I WORK AND YESTERDAY I WORKED, and the water is cold, and I’m freezing, and I’m trying so hard, and it doesn’t feel natural. AND I WANT to be effortless, and to know it will work out, and to trust in a future that always considers me. And it HASN’T, and I am stronger for it, tougher for knowing I can find my own way, and I AM TIRED.

THE MEMORY IS CHANGED BY HOW YOU FELT AT THE TIME, WHAT YOU REALLY WANTED TO KEEP IN THE FRAME, WHAT LIGHT YOU NEEDED THEN. sometimes, you see it more clearly looking back. sometimes, you see that how you saw it then was beautiful and not quite true.

BEEN LEARNING TO SURF, enjoying the rare success as much as being (forcefully) returned to the shore by the sea.
