Crying during sleep learning is one of those topics where the internet REALLY wants you to pick a side. 😅

We don’t.

Because there’s a whole lot more nuance between “never let your baby cry” and “just ignore them.”

And the way we think about it has a lot less to do with crying than you might think.

Watch this one all the way through before you decide whether you agree with us. 😂

If you currently have 203 baby sleep posts saved and somehow feel LESS sure what the hell you’re supposed to do…

please stop collecting sleep advice. 😂

We’ve helped 5,000+ families since 2012, and our goal isn’t to turn you into a sleep expert.

It’s to help you understand your kid well enough that you don’t need Instagram to make every sleep decision for you.

Follow along. We’ll teach you how.

I used to SWEAR by this sleep strategy.

Now? We don’t even recommend it past the newborn phase.

Not because it doesn’t work, but because I think we’ve made baby sleep WAY more complicated (and stressful) than it needs to be.

And if you’re constantly second-guessing yourself and adjusting your entire day around your baby’s sleep, you need to hear this.

Watch the video. Then tell me if you’re guilty of this too. by @thecradlecoach

Listen, we LOVE when a client tells us we’re magic. But we should probably tell you what’s actually happening behind the scenes (psst..it’s not magic 😅).

It’s not some secret sleep training trick we’re gatekeeping.

It’s knowing when a schedule needs adjusting. When a bedtime routine is doing too much. When a sleep association is getting in the way. And when the advice you’ve been following just doesn’t make sense for YOUR child.

And then knowing how to put all those pieces together.

That’s the part that gets overlooked.

Because you can google a sleep schedule. You can find a bedtime routine on Pinterest. You can even buy a course on sleep training.

But knowing which changes YOUR child needs, and how to actually make them?

That’s where nearly 12 years of experience and 5,000+ families come in.

So no, Rachel isn’t a magician.

She’s just really freaking good at her job.

And if you’ve been trying to figure this whole sleep thing out on your own, we’d love to show you the difference that makes.

There’s a difference between an approach actually being WRONG for your child and your child just not liking that things are changing.

If you’re struggling to find the right sleep plan for your kiddo we’d love to help.

We will always learn everything we can about your specific situation and make a plan that will not only work for your family but also one that you’re comfortable with as the parent.

If you have adjusted the wake window by 15 minutes...

Then 30 minutes.

Then moved it back because apparently THAT was wrong...

And your baby is STILL waking up 30 minutes into every nap...

Please stop doing nap algebra for a second. 😂

Wake windows matter.

But they are not the only reason a baby takes short naps.

When we’re working with a chronic 30 minute napper, we zoom out.

How are they falling asleep?

What happens when they wake between sleep cycles?

What does their sleep environment look like?

Are they getting enough daytime sleep overall?

Are they getting too much?

What does nighttime sleep look like?

Are they waking happy and ready to party, or clearly still exhausted?

And what happens when you try to extend the nap?

👉 Because those details tell us WAY more than:

“Your baby was awake for 2 hours and 17 minutes instead of 2 hours and 32 minutes.”

Sometimes the schedule needs adjusting.

Sometimes it doesn’t.

And after working with 5,000+ families, one thing we know for sure is that you cannot troubleshoot a baby by staring at one number on a schedule.

🔍 You have to look at the whole freaking baby.

So if you’ve changed the wake windows 103 times and you’re still setting a timer by your baby’s 30 minute naps, it’s time to stop guessing.

And after 5,000+ families, you start to notice some things. 🤔

Like the fact that the baby who “just hates sleep” usually doesn’t actually hate sleep.

The toddler who “isn’t tired” at bedtime is often VERY tired.

And the parents who come to us convinced they’ve somehow created terrible sleep habits?

They almost never have.

They’re usually just freaking exhausted and trying whatever works at 2am.

👉 But the biggest thing 5,000 families have taught us is THIS:

There is no one sleep plan that works for every kid.

We’ve worked with babies who needed schedule changes.

Toddlers who needed clearer boundaries.

Families who needed to change how their child was falling asleep.

Kids whose sleep completely changed once we spotted one tiny thing happening during the day.

And plenty of families where the answer was a combination of all of it.

🔍 That’s why we ask so many questions.

We want to know when they eat.

How they nap.

What bedtime looks like.

Where they sleep.

What happens when they wake up.

What you’ve already tried.

What your child is like.

And what YOU are actually comfortable doing.

Because after 5,000+ families, we’re not interested in telling you what generally works for a 9-month-old.

We want to figure out what’s going to work for YOUR 9 month old.

And getting that first “OMG THEY SLEPT!!!” message?

Still feels pretty freaking close to winning the lottery. 🥰

I’m gonna go ahead and tell you why your baby or toddler is taking what feels like forever to fall asleep only to wake up numerous times overnight and take short naps.

You’re not doing anything wrong - we just have to teach them a different way. by @thecradlecoach

Your bedtime routine does not need to be perfect. 🙂‍↔️

You don’t need the exact same bath at the exact same time followed by lavender lotion, three books, affirmations and whatever else Instagram has convinced us is required for a child to sleep.

Your kid needs to know what to expect. 😍

Because bedtime gets really freaking hard when the answer keeps changing.

Sometimes “one more book” works.

Sometimes getting out of bed earns 20 more minutes with Mom.

Sometimes you lie with them until they fall asleep.

Sometimes you say you won’t, but eventually give in because it’s 9:14 and everyone has lost the will to live.

🤔 So what does your toddler learn?

Keep trying.

Not because they’re manipulating you.

Because sometimes it works.

Predictability sounds more like:

We do our bedtime routine.

We have our cuddles.

We read our books.

We say goodnight.

And when you inevitably remember the 13 critically important things you need to tell me the second I turn off the light, I’m still going to lovingly hold the same boundary.

You don’t have to do it perfectly.

You’re going to have weird nights.

You’re going to stay up late sometimes.

You’re going to bend the rules because Grandma is visiting or you went out for ice cream at 8pm.

That’s real life.

But most nights, your child should know what bedtime looks like AND what happens when they push against it.

Perfect isn’t the goal.

Predictable is.

Trying a bunch of different things for months isn’t the same as following a sleep plan that’s actually right for your child.

And that’s where we come in.

We’ve helped over 5,000 families, and we’re not interested in handing you another generic schedule and wishing you luck.

We look at EVERYTHING.

Your child’s sleep habits. Their schedule. Their temperament. Their environment. What’s happening during the day. What you’re comfortable with. What you’ve tried and why it hasn’t worked.

Then we build a plan specifically for YOUR child and support you while you implement it.

Because you shouldn’t have to spend another three months guessing your way through bedtime.

Our goal is to help you start seeing meaningful progress in days, not months. Every child is different, but you deserve a plan that actually makes sense and someone to help you follow through.

If you’re ready to stop piecing together sleep advice and have us take a look at what’s really going on, comment HELP.

Let’s figure this out together. by @thecradlecoach
