Welcome to the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy.

What you’re seeing here are real impressions. Students who put in the hard work to complete the program. Instructors who care deeply about the work and the people learning it. A program that’s intense, immersive, and designed to stretch you in the best possible ways.

CRSMT is a full-time, accelerated massage therapy program based in Sámara, Costa Rica. It’s hands-on, academically rigorous, and deeply experiential. You’ll study anatomy, physiology, assessment, and clinical skills. You’ll practice daily. You’ll learn how to think critically, work ethically, and build real confidence as a massage therapist.

It’s not easy. The pace is fast. The days are full. And that’s intentional. This program is designed for people who are ready to focus, commit, and grow. What makes it sustainable is the support. Instructors who are present and invested. Staff who know you by name. A community that practices together, studies together, and shows up for one another.

Many students come to CRSMT because something isn’t working anymore. Burnout. A lack of meaning. A desire for work that feels more human, more grounded, more aligned. They leave with practical skills, professional training, and a clearer sense of what’s possible next.

If you’re looking for a serious education, a supportive environment, and an experience that challenges you personally and professionally, this might be for you.

Claire Bartlett is from Wisconsin, and before massage school, she was a self-described workaholic.

Summers on a golf course. Evenings serving and bartending at a restaurant.

But long before massage was ever a career idea, it was already part of who she was.

Physical touch wasn’t a big part of her childhood, so it became one of the ways she showed people she loved them. At family gatherings, she’d get up from the table and give her aunt a shoulder massage. Every single time, her aunt would just melt.

That instinct to care for people with your hands is real. Training is what turns it into skill.

At CRSMT, Claire built that skill through hands-on practice, a strong science foundation, and a supportive community in Playa Sámara, Costa Rica. She graduated in 2025.

This is part one of Claire’s story. Follow along for what came next.

Would you know how to adapt your session for a client going through cancer treatment?

Many massage therapists will work with clients touched by cancer, whether they are in treatment, in recovery, or caring for someone who is.

Knowing when and how to adjust your touch builds trust and confidence on both sides of the table.

Our Oncology Massage by the Sea Retreat is a week in Playa Sámara focused on exactly that.

It is led by Vickie Torrey, MBA, MHA, LMBT, who brings 30 years of massage experience and taught oncology massage and ethics at CRSMT for a decade.

You’ll earn 25 NCBTMB approved CEUs, including 4 hours of ethics.

Family caregivers are welcome too, no massage experience needed.

Between class days, you’ll visit the Waterfalls of Belén, take a Costa Rican cooking class, and choose your own adventure on the water or on horseback.

November 29 to December 6, 2026

Starting at $1,275

A $350 deposit reserves your spot. Space is limited.

Comment ONCOLOGY and we’ll send you the details.

Felices 205 Años de Independencia, Costa Rica! 🇨🇷

Today Costa Rica celebrates 205 years of independence from Spain. On September 15th, 1821, Costa Rica and four other Central American nations declared their freedom. This beloved national holiday is marked by “desfiles” when all the schools march in colorful parades and show civic pride. You’ll see marching bands, folkloric dance and traditional dress in the colors of the flag.

We love this incredible country, its culture, and the warmth of its people.

CRSMT Anatomy and Physiology instructor Morgana warns students that after the first week of class “we’re going to go off a cliff!” Teaching anatomy in a way that students can take in the information in a way that sticks is not easy in an accelerated massage therapy program.

She uses dynamic teaching techniques to integrate the knowledge like having students physically walk through the chambers of the heart as if they are blood cells.

This is one of the things that sets Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy apart from other massage schools. Passionate and engaging teachers are the core of what we do!

Kinda chic to think you’re signing up for a massage certification, and walk away with a completely different life.

That’s what a few months at CRSMT in Playa Sámara actually looks like. Hands-on training, real anatomy, real practice hours. Beach mornings and waterfall afternoons. Friends who turn into family. A skill you can build a career around, wherever you decide to take it next.

It’s not just massage school. It’s the reset a lot of people didn’t know they needed.

A lot of therapists hold off on learning Thai massage for reasons that don’t actually hold up. Your body isn’t stuck with floor work you can’t handle, training covers the body mechanics that protect you. Your clients aren’t locked into what they already know, most welcome having options. And you’re not starting over, you’re building on skills you already have.

Our Asian Modalities Certificate Program is built for licensed and certified massage therapists ready to add Thai massage and shiatsu to their practice. It runs November 29 through December 19, 2026, in Playa Sámara, and offers 100 NCBTMB approved continuing education units. A Thai massage only track (40 hours) is also available if you want to focus there.

There’s a moment every massage therapy student remembers, the one where a technique finally clicks. For Carley Dvorak that moment came during myofascial release. She started out feeling lost, hands moving but feeling nothing, frustrated that the tissue wasn’t responding the way it was supposed to. Then, mid session in clinic, an instructor gave her one piece of advice: if it’s not moving, just stick with it. She did, and felt the most profound shift of fascia under her hands she’d experienced yet, a breakthrough that carried straight into her next practical trade the following day.

Moments like this are why hands-on massage therapy education matters so much. Myofascial release, palpation, and bodywork skills aren’t things you can fully learn from a textbook. They’re built through repetition, real tissue, and real feedback in a clinical training environment. When theory finally connects with what a student feels under their hands, it’s proof that immersive, in-person massage school training does something online or hybrid programs simply can’t replicate. These are the aha moments that build not just technique, but genuine confidence in the treatment room.

This is what a fully immersive massage therapy program in Costa Rica is designed to create: space for students to struggle, adjust, and finally understand their craft through direct hands-on practice. If you’re considering massage school and want an education built on real skills and real breakthroughs, we’d love to tell you more.

CRSMT students often remember one day that reshaped how they think about this work, and for this alumna, it was the afternoon they spent in El Torito.

Massage school graduate, Carley Dvorak, was there, and her recap says it all. Our students set up their treatment tables right in the local community center, in the middle of a room full of balloons and kids running past, and offered massage to neighbors who don’t always have access to regular bodywork. In exchange, members of the community taught them how to make traditional Costa Rican tamales from scratch, a dish that carries real meaning here.

Carley shares about watching a few of the kids light up during their sessions, the kind of reaction that makes you wonder if massage therapy just found its next generation of practitioners. She also talked about how easy it is to get consumed by school, tests, and deadlines, and how a day like this pulls you back out of that and reminds you why you signed up in the first place.

This is what a CRSMT education looks like outside the classroom: real hands-on practice, paired with genuine cultural exchange. We’re grateful to partner with Asociación CREAR, a local non-profit supporting youth in Sámara and El Torito, for making days like this possible.

Meet Kat Parker, our Director of Education.

Kat is a CRSMT graduate herself, and her history with the school runs deep. Over more than a decade, she has held numerous roles here, including campus manager and dean of students, and has developed and taught many parts of our core curriculum along the way. She has served as Director of Education since February of this year.

Her specialty is kinesiology, and she has a gift for helping students understand the body’s complex systems with patience and warmth.

Kat fell in love with massage therapy through watching students transform into skilled, confident professionals, and once she began her own training, she knew right away it was the right fit.

That same appreciation for growth is what she loves most about teaching now. She says her favorite part of the job is watching students move from day one, with no experience, all the way to a full working knowledge of the body’s systems and skills. Her words: “it’s just really lovely to see.”

We could not be more excited to have her in this leadership role.

Her advice for anyone considering this path: get a massage, see how it feels, and if something in you responds to it, that’s worth paying attention to.

Get to know Kat in this clip, and expect to see a lot more of her soon.
