WOW! What an incredible 4 months it's been. Thank you to each and every person who has contributed to and engaged with The Dance Resource. I'm building this for the Triangle dance community, and I am so happy to see folks are regularly:

-visiting the site almost every day
-reading The Dance Pulse articles
-contributing to the directory + events
-reaching out to discuss cross-collabs

(LMK if you've been here since April!!)

I stepped away from the stage in 2019, but through this project, I've reconnected with dance in a totally new way!

So far, one of the most rewarding aspects of this endeavor is connecting with dance audiences, particularly those who aren't trained in dance but enjoy experiencing it. Not only are folks searching for where dance is in the Triangle, but they are asking questions like,

"Where do I see MODERN dance in Raleigh?"
"What does this dance piece mean?"
"Where can I learn how to dance like that?"

These are all questions The Dance Resource anticipates answering soon. All is to say, I can't wait to expand this concept to the greater Triangle of folks who are looking for dance EXPERIENCES (because let's be real -- seeing a dance performance or taking a dance class are some of the more potent physical experiences available to us in our everyday lives).

I'm so excited to see what the next 4 months brings forth. New things are in the works. Stay tuned and follow along!

What an amazing ADF season! It was so exciting to see the HUGE turnout at Downtown Cary Park on Saturday, Sept 26.

"Made in NC" is unique because we had the opportunity to see the work not only twice but at two very different venues.

Since I believe the environment we perform dance work in affects its presentation, I touch on how each piece differed from venue to venue as an audience member. Of course, this is just my experience, so I am curious if you noticed any differences yourself. Share your experience with us below!

>>READ THE FULL WRITE-UP AT THE LINK IN BIO. Go to "More links" and tap on "Read the Dance Pulse."

(I also took some photos + videos of the Downtown Cary Park performance. Be on the lookout for the snippets in case you couldn't make it to the show!)

Happy National Dance Day! Today, we celebrate the power of DANCE!

Dance has the power to connect, heal, and inspire everyone -- young and old, trained and untrained -- through physical EXPRESSION.

And in today's digital age, understanding our bodies, the way they move, and the places they move in is more important than ever.

So many of the performances in this reel directly involved the audience through demonstrations, invitations to the stage, and/or Q&As.

THAT is how we inspire EVERYONE to DANCE! Get them involved and SHOW THEM the joy, power, and beauty of dancing TOGETHER.

On August 22, Amy Beasley (@amylovebeasley.dances, @amylovebeasley) and dancers performed at the NCMA in a choreographic response to the exhibition entitled "Partial Figure."

Accompanied by a hopeful track of ambient music, the dancers emerged from and passed to one another panes of plexiglass with calm, purposeful movements.

Beasley and dancers created the work collaboratively, with one dancer suggesting they use squares of plexiglass to enhance the idea of being hidden yet seen, a theme in the inspiring artwork. The reflective and transparent quality of the plexiglass highlighted this idea nicely by creating exciting interactions of movement.

The dancer's hands, faces, and bodies -- moving three dimensionally in the space -- converged in beautiful ways in the two-dimensional space on the plexiglass, offering each audience member a unique perspective! In some cases, we were able to experience components of the choreography that we wouldn't have otherwise been able to see, such as a dancer's face overlapping with another's through the glass and a dancer's movement highlighted by a quick reflection of light from the plexiglass.

Thank you, Amy Beasley and performers for sharing dance as a powerful conduit for exploring artwork beyond the museum walls!

Just some thoughts and questions I'm gnawing on as I build out The Dance Resource.

What do you think?

On August 22, Darian Moore (@deerocking_onpurpose), dancers, singers, and musicians shared a thoughtful choreographic response to artwork featured in the NCMA's exhibition "Partial Figure."

Inspired by four pieces of artwork -- shown projected on the wall behind the dancers -- Moore touched on themes of femininity, including strength, vulnerability, and sensuality.

Accompanied by a live performance of "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush, the three dancers embodied these ideas of womanhood through direct inspiration from the artwork:

An arm overhead positioned as sensual power.
An arm reaching out beckoning connection.
A proud stance taking up space.

Each dance movement tied directly to the four pieces of artwork in an artistic yet explanatory way. While the artwork was the initial inspiration for the movement, the choreography enhanced the meaning of the artwork, leading to a renewed perspective of the exhibition.

Thank you, Darian Moore and performers for sharing dance and music as a powerful conduit for exploring artwork beyond the museum walls!

HEY, DANCER! Did you thank the people who donated to your fundraiser? NO??? You just let the system send a receipt to their email??? Go write a real email to them right now! And even better: do something special for your biggest donors.

This is donor retention 101:

1, an initial thank you email shows receipt and acknowledgement.

2, a secondary and tertiary thank you (perhaps a personalized note) helps people remember why your project matters and how their donation made an impact. Help people remember how they helped you!!

3, even better, an end-of-year, more generalized thank you helps donors keep your organization top of mind. by @thedanceresource
