As believers, it is easy to get caught up in the many things that demand our attention. But in the midst of all these, there is a need to pause and consider what truly matters to God and how our lives should reflect His priorities.

We’ll be learning from God’s Word on the topic: “What Really Matters.” It will be an opportunity to realign our hearts with God’s perspective.

Just because someone did something by faith and got a particular result does not mean you should do the exact same thing expecting the exact same outcome.

Yes, there are biblical principles that God has established, and when we walk in them, we can confidently expect the fruit those principles produce.
But there are also moments when a specific result came because someone received a specific revelation, instruction, or leading from the Holy Spirit.

David defeated Goliath with a sling. That doesn’t mean every giant you face should be approached with a sling.

Jesus healed people in different ways. One was touched. Another was spoken to. Another received a physical application. The principle was faith and obedience to God, but the instruction was not always the same.

The danger is taking someone else’s testimony and turning their specific instruction into a universal formula.

Faith is not copying another person’s action.
Faith is responding to what God has said.
So don’t just ask, “What did they do?”
Ask, “What is God saying to me?”

Because sometimes the result is not attached merely to the action, it is attached to the instruction behind the action.

If you love something they do for you, tell them.
If there is a way they love you that makes you feel seen, acknowledge it.
And if there is something you would love for them to do more often, communicate it.

Don’t assume they should automatically know.
Sometimes, we expect people to read our minds. We become upset that they didn’t do something we never actually told them mattered to us.

Your partner should not only hear, “You need to change this.” They should also hear, “I really love when you do this. Please keep doing it.”

Correction is important, but so is affirmation.

When someone consistently does something that makes you feel loved, appreciated, respected or cared for, let them know. Appreciation is not something you save for anniversaries and special occasions. It should be part of the everyday language of love.

Tell people what you need.
Tell them what you love.
Tell them what you appreciate.
And when they get it right, don’t be silent about it.

People need to know not only where they are falling short, but also where they are getting it right.

Sometimes, the best way to encourage more of what you love is simply to recognize and appreciate it when it’s done.

It’s also your responsibility to let people know how you want to be loved.

What is something your partner does that you genuinely love and have told them you appreciate? Send this to them and let them know.

I believe God can change people. I believe He can heal the deepest wounds, restore what is broken, and even reconcile relationships that seem completely beyond repair.

But I also believe we need to understand something about the sovereignty of God and the will of man.

God is sovereign. Nothing catches Him by surprise, and no human decision can frustrate His ultimate purposes. Proverbs 21:1 says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”

God is absolutely capable of influencing the hearts of people, directing circumstances, bringing conviction, opening their understanding, and working in ways we cannot see.

But God’s sovereignty does not mean that He treats human beings as robots without a will.

God created man with the capacity to make genuine choices, and throughout Scripture, God calls people to respond, believe, repent, obey, and choose. So while God can work powerfully upon a person’s heart, we should be careful about thinking and even praying that God will simply override their will and make them choose something against their own volition.

There is a difference between God sovereignly influencing a person’s heart and God coercively removing their capacity to choose.

God can convict them.
God can speak to them.
God can reveal truth to them.
God can arrange circumstances around them. God can soften their heart.
God can draw them to Himself.
But don’t assume that God will force a particular response simply because you prayed for it.

And sometimes this is the difficult part of faith: believing that God is sovereign even when He does not give us the outcome we are asking for.

So yes, pray for that person. Believe God can restore that relationship. Believe He can change hearts. But don’t confuse God’s sovereignty with the idea that He must override human choice to accomplish His purposes.

God is sovereign. Man is responsible. And somehow, in the wisdom of God, both truths stand and we rest in this too, that all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord.
