In response to President Donald Trump’s second term and a series of federal policy changes, D.C. residents and American University students are mobilizing locally as universities remain largely silent. Student activists, faculty and organizations are adapting to shifts in climate policy, education funding and civil rights. Many are pushing back against executive orders. Meanwhile, others are contending with uncertainty in job prospects and increased hostility. As federal institutions face cuts and pressure, those on the ground find new ways to stay engaged and resist.

Heightened security concerns and the Trump administration’s immigration policies have fueled uncertainty, with increased ICE enforcement and stricter visa restrictions raising questions about whether some international fans will be able to attend the tournament.

“There’s a whole shit-ton of political differences — you’re going to have to keep everybody safe and it’s going to be spread out and all under the name of peace and kumbaya and all that nonsense,” Jake Didinsky, president of the American Outlaws D.C.
