I have a confession too…….Introducing Tarangela 2.0

Inspired by Madonna’s Confessions on a Dancefloor II album artwork, Tarangela Bassett got some work done 💅🏽

Her body has been replaced with an original speaker from @towndanceboutique and covered in pink disco tile, upgrading our beloved @tradebardc mascot while also paying homage to an iconic safe space and dancefloor of DC’s rich nightlife past and of course, Trade’s roots.

This wasn’t just a fun marketing scheme, this was an elaborate attempt at injecting whimsy into the news cycle. This was a small reminder that we can change anything we want, or at least add some sparkle to it ;)
I will always first and foremost be an entertainer no matter what I do, and I dont necessarily think that always has to exist on stage or in the metaphorical box.
We all have more power and tools around us than we think and I hope y’all were entertained!!

HUUUUGE thank you to everyone who played a part in making this so fun and possible. Special thanks to @jaxknifecomplex and @wessthedj for helping create the content and develop the story, @djedbailey for trusting my crazy ass, @theamericanbambi for helping with documentation and flyering, the entire trade fam for going with the joke, @andrxw.mxlvin for taking the speakers apart with me and helping tile her, Lucien for always helping me make these wild ideas come to life, the amazing patrons that added to the lore, and just everyone who added something silly and fun to it. It was a massive group stunt, I loved doing it, and maybe I cried a little when we put her up because it felt so special 🥺💖

The second slide is the first photo I ever posted as “Bumper” the performer.
Today is the 5 year anniversary of me moving to DC and it felt right to revisit some old antics. When I got here, the world was just opening back up, I knew nothing about DC, I was newly engaged, and I had just suddenly lost my Grandpa - the person I considered my father - and had to jump on a flight home as soon as I arrived to my new home to put him to rest. Since then it’s been a scary, beautiful, gut wrenching, amazing rollercoaster full of highs, lows, and emotions I didn’t know I had.
It’s been over 6 years since that second photo and “Bumper” has become a full time name beyond performance and so much more for me so it just felt right to see what the Charmeleon evolution to that photo would be. I still have the same fire in me I had then if not more, soo many more tools (mentally and physically lol) in my tool belt, and I’m more inspired than ever. I’ve fallen in love with this city and this community and being here feels like kismet right now. I’m feeling very grateful today and I truly feel like I’m just getting started.
Let’s ride 🤘🏽;)

Hop in loser, we’re going at it like rabbits ✨😉🐇💐

It’s Spriiiiinggggg!!! I got to grow a pinwheel garden for the Spring on the @tradebardc patio inspired by the “it’s a small world” ride at Disney and it’s 2D moving sets! 100ft of wooden garden facade, 70 little adorable custom cut lighting platforms to perfectly light the bitch, and over 600 pinwheels with more being added daily 🥰🌸

Tried to explain this carousel and “March so far✨” felt wild so I decided that’s simply none of my business. We’re spreading all the joy we can find and I’m feeling very grateful for this existence through the chaos.

@womeninthearts and the entire lovely team of people there, thank you for an unforgettable experience. This was one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to be apart of in this city for so so many reasons. Huge thank you to @_mbv_ for guiding us through it all -

Story time: When I visited DC 7 years ago, I randomly got to attend the Hirshhorn Ball (in chaps) and got introduced to so many of the amazing creatives who make this scene what it is. It changed my entire perception of what DC could be, and how queer joy can penetrate anything with the right amount of care and attention. Not only was it a “crack my brain open” moment but I NEVER thought about having the full circle moment of working with the person who produced it. Later that same evening was my first time at @tradebardc ever and Kim Petras happened to be in town and I was just mesmerized by this scene I didn’t even know existed. Now I’m basically Trade’s bodega cat haha. Moments like these will always make me swell with gratitude, remind me that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be (even when it’s tough), and quite honestly gag me ✨

P.S - I made the giant picture frame out of wood and covered in it a custom cut vinyl decals that I designed. Then it became the Boodega™️ store front!
