As early as 7 years old, I was a huge fan of @janetjackson - I was watching an interview of hers a few days ago and it took me by surprise that she didn’t think she was pretty. I thought to myself, the woman that I idolized and thought was drop dead gorgeous, didn’t think she was pretty? Wow!

I realized that confidence was huge and how important representation matters. She not only inspired me musically, but she also gave me confidence to be who am today! Especially during a time that society told young dark skin girls like me, that we weren’t pretty and didn’t fit the statistical image.

Thank you Janet for pushing past your insecurities and showing little girls like me that we are just as beautiful! Thank you for inspiring me musically.

And sometimes you just have to trust your own process, especially being a creative.
