I started sharing our little Perth adventures because motherhood felt lonelier than I expected.

We had moved away from everything familiar. No family nearby. No built-in village. Just me, my husband, a little boy with endless energy and wonder, and this quiet hope that maybe connection could still be found somewhere here. 🤍

So we started exploring.

Playgrounds.
Nature walks.
Libraries.
Coffee shops.
Sensory play sessions.
Anywhere that made ordinary days feel a little softer.

And somewhere along the way, this page became more than just 'things to do in Perth'.

It became:
• finding magic in slow mornings
• letting childhood feel wild and free
• saying yes to little adventures
• building connection from scratch
• and creating the kind of childhood I hope Kai always carries with him

Not perfect.
Not curated.
Just real life with a little boy who still reaches for my hand and asks me to play. 🌿

If you’re here for family-friendly Perth ideas, honest motherhood, slow childhood moments or simply a reminder that you’re not alone in this season… I’m really glad you found us. 🤍

Huge thank you to the beautiful @dayna.photography for capturing these moments so gently and naturally. These photos feel exactly like this season of life to me. 🥹

Motherhood without a village feels different.

There’s no built-in backup.
No spontaneous drop-ins.
No easy tag-team days.

When we moved to WA, I didn’t know a single person.

And building friendships from scratch as an adult?
It’s vulnerable.

Some days I nearly didn’t walk in.

But being out — consistently — created opportunity.

Small things mattered:
– The same coffee shop each week
– Staying after library rhyme time
– Saying yes to playgroups
– Bringing the extra bucket to the beach

It didn’t happen overnight.
But it did happen.

If you already have your people, look for the mum standing alone.

And if you’re still building your village — I see you. 🤍

Were you this mum once —
or are you her right now?
How did you find your people? 🫶 by @theeverydayhood

The soundtrack to his fourth birthday wasn't a song. It was the voices of the people who love him. 🥹

Of all the beautiful little details from Kai's birthday party, I think this might be one of the keepsakes we'll treasure most.

Everland's Audio Book is a gorgeous old-fashioned telephone where guests can pick up the receiver and leave a message for the birthday child.

His little friends, the grown-ups, Paul and I. All leaving birthday wishes, funny little stories and words of love for our now four-year-old.

And the beautiful thing? We get to keep every single message.

I've spent so much of Kai's childhood taking photos and videos, trying to hold onto the moments I know won't last forever.

But something I don't think we talk about enough is how much the sounds of childhood change too.

The little voices.
The way they pronounce certain words.
The uncontrollable giggles.
The things they say that make absolutely no sense but somehow mean everything.

And even our own voices, telling our children just how much we love them.

One day, when Kai is much older, he'll be able to listen back to these messages and hear a little piece of what life sounded like when he turned four.

The friendships. The laughter. The people who surrounded him with love.

And perhaps that's what makes this so special to me.

Because the decorations come down, the cake gets eaten and another birthday becomes a memory.

But these voices? We get to keep them.

Thank you @everland_parties for giving us something so meaningful to hold onto from such a special day.

Got a little climber or an ape lover at home? 🦍🤎

Because if you've got a child who loves both, this place is quite the find!

We've visited @apeescapegym more times than I can count. It's always been somewhere Kai has loved, especially with his obsession with all things gorillas and monkeys!

But we popped back recently and discovered a few new additions. And hello, even MORE primates! 🐒

There's an incredible giant gorilla, monkeys everywhere you look, and now even a robotic monkey making little heart gestures at the children. 🫶

I don't think I've ever seen so many primates in one place!

But beyond the fun theming, what keeps bringing us back is the opportunity for children to simply MOVE.

To climb, jump, swing, balance, explore and challenge themselves.

The toddler play sessions are unstructured, giving little ones the freedom to follow their curiosity, test their abilities and build confidence through play.

And at just $10, it's a pretty great budget-friendly indoor adventure too!

Here's what you need to know:

📍 Ape Escape | 6 The Gateway, Edgewater

🐒 Toddler Play: 1–5 years

💰 $10 per child, including one adult

🦶 Barefoot play, no special socks required

🎟️ No bookings required for toddler sessions

🤎 Parents must supervise their children throughout.

They also offer a Calm Morning Play session, mixed-age casual play and movement classes for different ages.

Check @apeescapegym for the full timetable.

As a mum to a little person who has never met a climbing challenge he didn't want to tackle, I love having somewhere like this to come back to.

And now with even more monkeys and gorillas to discover, I think we'll be back again soon! 🦍🤎

Save this one for your next indoor adventure!

I've heard people describe him as “a lot.” And maybe he is. But never in a way that needs dimming.

He's loud. He's enthusiastic. He's endlessly curious. His imagination runs wild, he makes friends wherever he goes and he has a way of turning the most ordinary moments into something extraordinary.

He has so much to say, so much to ask, so much to explore and so much love to give.

And I absolutely adore that about him.

I love that he doesn't think twice about being himself. That he approaches people with an open heart. That his excitement is impossible to contain. That he sees possibilities in things the rest of us might walk straight past.

And as he gets older, I find myself hoping that the world is gentle with those parts of him.

Because I know there will be people who find him loud. People who find his enthusiasm overwhelming. People who don't quite understand his need to know everything about everything.

And that's okay. Not everyone has to see him the way I do.

But I hope he never begins to believe that the things that make him who he is are things he needs to hide.

Especially as we begin thinking about school, about new environments, new friendships and all the people who will become part of his world.

I want him to learn, to grow, to listen and to make room for others. But I never want him to feel he has to become less of himself to belong.

Because I've spent four years watching this little personality unfold. Watching his imagination grow, his confidence blossom and his love for life become one of my very favourite things about him.

And the thought of that little spark being dimmed breaks my heart a little.

So yes, he's a lot.

A lot of enthusiasm.
A lot of imagination.
A lot of curiosity.
A lot of personality.
A lot of love.

And he means an awful lot to me.

May he never mistake being full of life for being too much. 🤎 by @theeverydayhood

It's funny how you can walk into a children's activity not knowing a single person and end up finding friendships you never even knew you needed.

At first, it was about the kids. Giving them opportunities to play, make memories and build friendships of their own.

But then came the coffees that went cold, the conversations interrupted a hundred times, the spontaneous catch-ups and the afternoons that lasted a little longer because none of us were quite ready to leave.

And somewhere in the middle of all those ordinary moments, friendships of our own began to grow.

When we moved to Perth, away from family and everything familiar, I never imagined just how much these friendships would come to mean to me.

Because finding your people as an adult isn't always easy. And finding people who understand this season of life, who love your children and make you feel a little less alone in it all, is something really special.

We may have met because of our children, but the friendships we've made are ours too.

And I think that's one of the loveliest, most unexpected gifts of motherhood. 🥹

EXCUSE ME, @kmartaus?! 😍

How is nobody talking about this two-piece set yet?!

The mesh. The fit. And can we take a moment to appreciate the STRETCH?! Because your girl likes to look good AND have room for dessert! 😂

I'm on a little journey of rediscovering my style at 40, figuring out what makes me feel confident, what feels like ME and doing it without spending a fortune.

And Kmart keeps delivering!

This one is giving girls' dinners, cocktails and an excuse to get a little dressed up. 🍸

Only problem? I actually need somewhere to wear it.

So, someone invite me out already! 😂🤎

There's something so special about experiencing a little magic through your child's eyes. 🤎

We spent our evening exploring Bloom: Living Connections and Kai was absolutely mesmerised from start to finish!

Set within the beautiful Central Park in Joondalup, Bloom transforms the park into an immersive after-dark experience where light, sound, nature and storytelling come together.

Think glowing forests, spectacular lasers, larger-than-life wildlife and interactive installations, all woven into a journey through the natural world.

One of the things we loved most was that it wasn't simply about admiring the lights. There were opportunities for little and big people alike to get involved, explore and become part of the magic.

And for Kai? Popping smoke-filled bubbles was quite possibly his ultimate dream! 🫧😂

Watching his little face light up as we wandered from one experience to the next was easily my favourite part of the evening.

If you're looking for something truly mesmerising to experience with your special people, this is it! ✨

A few things to know before you go:

📍 Central Park, Joondalup

📅 Running until 25 October 2026

⏰ Allow approximately 45–90 minutes to explore at your own pace

🌿 Pram-friendly pathways throughout

🎟️ Tickets available online at bloomjoondalup.com.au

The magic won't be here for much longer, so if Bloom has been on your list, make a night of it before it's gone! ✨

A beautiful reminder that sometimes the most memorable adventures happen after dark. 🤎

One of the quieter gifts of motherhood has been seeing the world through my child’s eyes.

At the beach, there is no wondering who is looking. No thinking about whether his body is "beach ready". There is just sand to run through, waves to jump over, sandcastles to build and a whole morning waiting to be enjoyed.

For years, body image kept me on the sidelines far more than I’d like to admit.

And it was never really about being a particular size. I’ve been different shapes and sizes over the years, and now my body carries some of the changes that came with having a child too — softer skin, stretch marks, cellulite.

None of that makes my body less deserving of being part of the memory.

These days, I’m trying to borrow a little of Kai’s freedom.

I’ll wear the one-piece that makes me feel comfortable. I’ll get sandy. I’ll get in the water. I’ll play beside him instead of watching from the edge.

Not because I suddenly love every part of my body every single day.

But because I don’t want how I feel about my body to decide how fully I participate in my life.

And because I want Kai to grow up seeing that bodies come in all different shapes and sizes — and that every body deserves to play freely at the beach.

Including mine. 🤎 by @theeverydayhood

We came for the puppy cuddles. We left with three paintings, the sweetest memories and a little boy who couldn't have been happier.

After a beautiful but incredibly busy few weeks, this was exactly the kind of afternoon we needed as a family.

From the moment we arrived at Kids Puppy & Paint Therapy, there was something so lovely about the atmosphere.

Soft music playing, cushions, canvases and puppy-safe paints waiting for us. A warm welcome from Nia and her team, and the freedom to create whatever we wanted.

And so we sat, the three of us, painting side by side. Little hands and big hands busy creating, with Kai adding his own special touches to all three canvases. His, Dad's and mine.

And then came the puppies. 🥹

Wandering around, playing and stopping for the sweetest cuddles. Our little animal lover was completely smitten, and so gentle and affectionate with them.

"The puppies love me," he proudly announced.

And he certainly loved them right back. 🤎

But what made this experience so special wasn't just watching our little boy enjoy himself. It was that we were all part of it.

Painting together. Laughing together. Sharing puppy cuddles and soaking up the simple joy of being together.

And that's what I love about what Nia has created. A welcoming space for people of all ages to get creative, connect with animals and find a little joy outside the busyness of everyday life.

Whether that's with family, friends, your partner or simply doing something lovely for yourself.

There is something pretty special about an experience that brings out that playful, joyful side of us all.

And those three paintings?

They're now proudly displayed together in Kai's bedroom. A little piece of our afternoon that we get to keep. 🥹

Thank you, Nia and @tinytailstherapy, for welcoming our family and creating something so thoughtful for our Perth community. 🤎

📍 We attended at Sol Tank Studio, Clarkson, with Tiny Tails Therapy experiences held at various locations across Perth.

🎨 60-minute session with all painting materials provided.

I think becoming a mother has changed what I consider a beautiful day. 🤎

Once upon a time, it was the big things. The holidays. The birthdays. The adventures we'd been looking forward to.

And while I still love all of those things, somewhere along the way, I've fallen in love with the ordinary days too.

The mornings with nowhere to be.

The little conversations about absolutely everything.

The walks that turn into adventures.

The familiar playgrounds we keep coming back to.

The joy of having nowhere particularly important to go, but someone very special to go there with.

Of course, not every day feels beautiful. Some are long, messy and exhausting. There are things to get done, moments when my patience is tested and days that don't quite go as I'd hoped.

But then there are afternoons like this.

Just the two of us at our little local playground. Playing, laughing, filling an afternoon with absolutely nothing remarkable.

And yet, everything about it feels special.

Because I'm beginning to realise that so much of the life I once hoped for is happening in these little in-between moments.

The ones we don't plan for or count down to.

The ones that are quietly becoming his childhood and my motherhood.

And as we get closer to a new chapter, I find myself appreciating them even more.

Because one day, our ordinary Tuesdays will look a little different.

And I have a feeling these are the days I'll find myself wishing I could visit again.

Nothing extraordinary.

Just us, and this little life of ours. 🤎 by @theeverydayhood
