Do all IVF clinics adhere to the same standards? No.

In IVF, success isn’t just about a positive pregnancy test; it’s about consistent, high-quality care at every stage of the process.

The Vienna Consensus, defined in 2017, established international standards for what constitutes competence versus benchmark in fertility labs, measuring aspects such as fertilisation, embryo development, and implantation.

At The Evewell, our 2025 results show that we perform at or above benchmark levels across key areas, including fertilisation, embryo development, cryosurvival, and implantation rates.

When choosing a clinic, ask about their KPIs, their results, and how they define success. @emmatheembryologist helps explain why this is vital for you to understand.

“Almost everyone in the waiting room was pretending to have yet another dental appointment.”

Emma Kafton, co-founder of The Evewell, on what she noticed first when we opened in 2018. Not the treatment. The hiding.

It’s better than it was. But if you’re currently on your fourth imaginary filling, it’s more common than you’d think, and it’s not because you’re doing anything wrong. It’s because nobody has made it easy to say.

So today at 12.30pm, Emma’s sitting down with career and fertility coach Jen Elworthy for a free lunchtime hour on exactly that. Whether to tell your manager, what to actually say, what you can ask for, and how to keep your career moving through treatment.

You can join with your camera off. And if you can’t make it live, register anyway and we’ll send you Jen’s guide afterwards.

Tonight we light a candle for the much-loved babies who died too soon 🕯️

If you're lighting one too, we'd love to see it. Share it to your story, tag us, and we'll reshare every one.

Thank you for being here this week. Whether you read everything or muted us on Friday, both were the right call.

Tonight is the Wave of Light.

A message from Mr Colin Davis, our Medical Director and co-founder.

"After loss, people don't need us to assume what they need. They need us to listen, to recognise that every experience is different, and to help them find the right support."

Which is why we've spent this week pointing you towards @mariposa_international and @sayinggoodbye_charity. Six organisations, because there isn't one experience of loss.

Three losses. Each one a pregnancy. Each one real.

This is the question we're asked most after a miscarriage, and the one that gets the vaguest answers. What actually gets looked into, and when.

For many people, every test comes back normal, and there's still no explanation. That isn't the same as nothing being wrong, and it isn't a failure on your part. It's the edge of what medicine can currently see.

Swipe for what's usually offered after repeated losses, what's worth asking about, and what to say to your GP.

For the person who wants to help and is terrified of getting it wrong.

Our nurses have these conversations every week. So we asked them what actually lands, and what to leave well alone.

The short version, and it's a relief: there's no sentence that fixes it. You won't find the right words because they don't exist. What people remember is that you said something at all, and that you said something again a fortnight later, when everyone else had moved on, and they were still in it.

Swipe for what our nursing team would say, and what they'd avoid.

Then send it to whoever's supporting a friend right now. They'll be more grateful than you think. taken in The Evewell by @theevewell

Monday Long Read. Trigger warning on this one.

@emmatheembryologist is our Director of Embryology and Genetics. Every day, she helps others build long-awaited families.

At the 20-week scan of her second baby, she and her husband Simon found out their daughter's heart hadn't formed properly, and they had to make a decision no parent should ever have to make.

She's told this story here before. We're telling it again because what she says about it is still true.

"This loss has made me better at my job, because when I say to my patients I get it, I really do."

You can follow Emma at @emmatheembryologist, where she's demystifying embryology for anyone about to start treatment or already in it.

Her full story is in the link in bio.

Six divisions of one charity, because no two losses are the same.

This is what made us want to work with @sayinggoodbye_charity, the primary support division of @mariposa_international. @zoeadelle MBE, a leading grief therapist, and her husband Andy didn't build a one-baby-loss charity. They built six, each one for a different moment and a different person.

Which sounds like a detail until you've been the person in the wrong room. The woman who's pregnant again and can't say out loud that she's terrified, sitting in a group where everyone else is grieving. The partner who's holding someone up and has nowhere to put their own weight. The family whose baby has had a diagnosis, who don't fit anywhere at all.

So swipe to see what each one does.

We're proud to be standing alongside them. You'll find all six at sayinggoodbye.org taken in The Evewell by @theevewell

Trigger warning. Baby Loss Awareness Week starts today.

Before we share anything else, this. If reading about loss will make this week harder, consider muting us until Friday. None of it is required reading. Step away, come back, or don't come back at all. That's allowed.

For everyone staying, we're doing something different this year. Less about what loss feels like, because if you're here, you already know. More about what actually helps, and who's best placed to help.

Because support isn't one thing. What you need after a miscarriage at eight weeks isn't what you need after a TFMR at twenty. And what you need in the first fortnight isn't what you need eighteen months later, pregnant again and holding your breath at every scan.

We're also sharing something we're proud of. Evewell is standing alongside @sayinggoodbye_charity, the charity set up by leading grief counsellor @zoeadelle, which includes Growing You, Holding Hope, Waiting For You, Love in Every Tear, and So Cherished.

Six divisions of one charity, @mariposa_international, because there isn't one experience of loss and there shouldn't be one kind of support. More on that tomorrow.

And on Thursday 15 October at 7pm, we'll light a candle with families all over the world for the Wave of Light.

Save this if you'd like the week somewhere you can find it. taken in The Evewell by @theevewell

The clinic rings at 6pm. The scan’s at 8am. You’re at your desk by 9am, and nobody at work knows any of it happened.

That’s the bit people don’t warn you about, and it’s what we’re covering with @jen_career_and_fertility_coach on Friday 16 October, 12.30pm, in our free lunchtime fertility webinar.
