Imagine you want to buy an ankara bag online, and you find two vendors. One sells it for 18,000 naira and has 80,000 followers, a beautiful page, and ads showing up all over your timeline. The other sells it for 25,000 naira and has only 2,000 followers, but her page is full of customers posting the bags they received, and she replies to every complaint, even the angry ones.

You have to make a choice, and if we are being honest, a lot of us would send the extra 7,000 naira to the second vendor without thinking twice. That extra money is the price of peace of mind, and it says a lot about how we decide who to believe.

This is what is quietly changing in business today. Anyone can look credible online now. AI can write reviews, copy a voice, and polish a page in minutes, so getting seen has become easy, while getting believed has become the real work.

So why do we trust some people, businesses, and institutions and stay skeptical of others? And what does it take to win trust back once it breaks?
