Milton & Shirley’s first grandchild.

Hi! I’m Zsanine. Welcome to a space that’s MINE!🤣

If you are new here, I speak in the business of women from their brains to their wombs. And I also assist women in advocating for themselves throughout healthcare.

I have a substack called, The Female Brain where I talk about different journals I have found in science that talk about our bodies AS WOMEN while still giving glimpses in my daily life as a mother, friend, pilates instructor, girlfriend and student.

I’m currently a student in Undergrad studying Behavioral Neuroscience & Psychology.

Why? Because! Period!👀💅🏾💅🏾

No, for real, there is a gap that is widening where it’s already not enough black advocacy in all fields however, I got tired of being diagnosed with STRESS.

Only to end up in an ER, crying my eyes out because I’m tired of explaining myself and telling the same stories about my mental health over and over.

My goal is to become a clinician scientist in Neuropsychology. That way I can help in the front lines but also teach, speak and advocate on the other.

I’m finally launching my podcast.
Finally working on another lane of entrepreneurship.

I teach pilates nine times a week at Sculpt.
And I can also be found cartwheeling with my six year old when the sun doesn’t have me fighting for my life.

I believe in skincare, cited resources, H2O with magnesium in it, creating libraries in your home, girly skirts, a cute puma, SUN BLOCK and being loved like you’ve never been loved before.

And I finally have a psychiatrist who looks like me who understands what I going on and is not allowing me to bedrot.

Enjoy your stay and welcome to Female Brain Lab!

I told them what was happening.

I told them I was in an abusive marriage. That I was the only one paying bills. That I couldn’t eat. That I was crying myself to sleep. That I was on bed rest, but couldn’t rest because I had to keep my whole household alive.

I told them it was stress.

They said it might be my blood pressure. Or that I was anemic. Or maybe it was a calcium deficiency. The nurse asked if I was on drugs.

I wasn’t. I had never touched a drug in my life.

But that’s what they saw when I came in bleeding, scared, and alone. They didn’t see someone surviving—they saw someone to question, to doubt, to dismiss.

When I finally gave birth 61 days later, they took my son and didn’t even tell me where he was. I found him in the NICU myself. I stayed with him every single day.

He's five now. Autistic. Brilliant. And still here.

So am I.

And that’s why I built REMIND Lab.

Not because I want to study why Black mothers are dying—but because I need to understand why I almost did. Why no one heard me. Why the stress that was killing me wasn’t seen as medical. Why abuse didn’t count unless it left a bruise.

I’m not just an advocate. I’m part of the evidence. I’m building the archive I wish had existed for me.

If your story was ignored too, DM me. I’m collecting stories for the Lab. I promise to treat yours with the care and precision mine never got.

Read the full piece on Remind Lab (link in bio).

$150 where?!? Set #2

Two of my trusted nail girls had left. I tried to try someone new but I was never happy. Had to keep getting my nails redone, they kept lifting, going back@for touch up work.

#ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I do have a cosmetology license that I stopped used because I just despised doing the work honestly. It wasn’t fun for me; doing hair. I am exemplary at color and blow outs but I’m good at home.

I had all the tools to do Russian manicures with builder gel, just didn’t so, here I am. Figuring it all out and having fun playing.

I’ll do better next time. But $180 for every piece of material I needed wasn’t bad.

43 years later 🗓⏳👣

Hey Nana, you see me? Your first born grandchild will be a Medical-Scientist. I want to attend Mayo Clinic’s Alix Medical School. Yep! Can you believe it. All those nights we watched ER together really paid off. 🤣🤣Now I’m not gonna be your handsome George Clooney. But I will be a neuro-scientist.

You always said Dr. Zsanine had a nice ring to it. You would be so proud of your great-grands. They are really amazing, intelligent, funny and so loving. I know, I know, you are always proud of me, but look - I got away and I am very safe now.

Things aren’t the greatest with my math class but I’m working on it. I’m getting a new professor, so starting next week, I’ll be in a better class.

I have a really great boyfriend. You would like him a lot. I love him and I’m a little scared because he is the epitome of grace and calm. I don’t want to mess up. I’m working on not waiting for the other foot to drop. I’m the kite and he’s the rock I’m tied to. He never raises his voice or yells.

Remember when I used to cry and you would let me scream and get it out? Then call granddaddy and he would take me to Macy’s? Yep! He does the same thing but sends me to get nail supplies or coloring books.

I got a new one you would really like with some glitter markers. I’ll color you one this weekend if I don’t have too much homework.

Look at all the things I’ve done. I’m doing everything you told me to do. I’m living. I think I finally understanding what love should be, look like and feel like. I’ve become my own healthy obsession.

And lady yes, my legs are getting me in trouble. 🤭🤭In a good way though. I’m finally seeing myself. I’m doing things I want to do for me. FINALLY!

I’m not scared to say what needs to be said, I’m done hiding my voice. And I’m done keeping me a secret.

I really miss you. No, I need and miss you. Everyday I’m just hoping you would call me and tell me to sit up straight. Call me and tell me that you are proud of me one more time. I need heI hope you and Granddaddy are okay. Save me some French burnt peanuts and tell Granddaddy I still like the black jelly beans.

Every Sunday in October, we’re wearing pink and purple in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, while also showing love to the women and families impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Some things deserve more than a post. Sometimes we show support by showing up, moving together, and making space for the women carrying things we may never know about.

So if you’re in one of my Sunday classes this month, pull out the pink, the purple, or both. We’re moving with purpose this October. taken in The Sculpt Studio Jax by @thefemalebrainlab

A little burn before “I DO!

I was honored to host the pilates bachelorette for one of my absolute favs @maddieleonard126!!

Theme: Something borrowed, something new.

All the foundational exercises today were based on standing for long periods of time in heels, sultry dresses and making sure they have great balance and mobility on her special day.

A special shout out to all ur in-house balloon artist @d_goinsm!! She did her thang okay!!!!

We know that your wedding day will be full of laughter, champagne and forever Love! 😘😘😘 by @thefemalebrainlab

I love me I swear!!

I do not like timed exams. It bothers my insides. Not only that, I have this computer watching me making sure I don’t do the unthinkable. That’s not even my style but it was extremely tense for me.

This is my Aging of Psychology class

So I studied. I use @studyfetch, talking with my mentor @drkiamitchell and elaborate flashcards where I win Hershey kisses if I get the answer right.

We were allowed to get 2 points of extra credit if we were able to identify things that we studied but weren’t on the exam. I went in. Talking about the cessation of menopause, osteoporosis and angina. I was not about to play games.

AND BOOM! 5 EXTRA POINTS!! And with 2 screaming Littles in the back.

God just built me different! by @thefemalebrainlab

Violence surrounded my pregnancy.

THEY keep studying what a mother took during pregnancy and what vaccines her baby received, while ignoring what may have been happening to her the entire time.

It’s so asinine. It’s almost as if their partner weren’t even involved with pregnancy at all. They couldn’t POSSIBLY be part of the problem. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️It’s all the woman’s fall.

Flag on the fucking play!

She may have been psychologically, emotionally, financially, or sexually abused and never said a word because she was scared, controlled, or rushed through prenatal care like nobody had time to notice she wasn’t okay.

I know because I was her.

I was abused throughout my pregnancy, delivered prematurely, my baby went to the NICU, and he was later diagnosed with ASD and ADHD.

I’m not saying abuse caused his diagnoses. I’m asking why we aren’t studying these pregnancies more deeply.

Maybe we need to stop asking only what went into her body and start studying what was being done to her while her baby was developing. by @thefemalebrainlab

How did you feel afterwards?

#For my 6AM Pilates class, I taught Snake on the reformer. Not the full advanced version, but enough for them to start seeing how you get there.

And yes, these classes are slowed down that that everyone can understand each layer as we build.

This is not a race.

People see Snake and think, “oh that’s advanced, I can’t do that.” But if you think about it, you’ve already done the layers FOR the Snake.

Elephant. Long Stretch. Up Stretch. Knee Stretches. Swan.

My sessions are always about layering to the next level. You are never stuck at the beginning.

You’ve already been building the strength, shoulder stability, hip lift, spinal control and carriage control you need.

That’s why I teach in layers. I want you to understand how one movement prepares you for the next instead of just collecting exercises.

You don’t need the full Snake yet. You need to understand the layers that come with building up TO A SNAKE!

See you at pilates! by @thefemalebrainlab
