the hunt is over 🔥

here’s a piece i’ve been hunting for awhile now, and whenever a psa 10 surfaced on ebay— i slept on it, waiting for a better deal that never came.

this specific copy popped up on ebay when i was in europe, and i ultimately missed out on it. i’m lucky to have pried it out of the hands of the previous collector as he also has a similar thesis to these inserts as i do.

topps fire isn’t the most expensive or sought out product nor one of ohtani’s desired rookie cards, but this flamethrowers SP insert stands out to me. if you look at the surges of jordan’s 90s inserts, there are two lanes to look at. scarcity and eye appeal. the flamethrowers ohtani rookie in a psa 10 is a pop 36. in terms of eye appeal, this card depicts ohtani in a fantastical style similar to the green/red PMGs. there are gold minted and blue minted versions of this card that are rarer, but the color match of the base insert takes the cake for me. i think this is a severely underrated and undervalued ohtani card, especially being a rookie as well.

my thesis is this is ohtani’s best 2018 rookie insert card, and i want to reiterate that as a pop 36 and being rookie, i would take this all day over his other modern dodgers SSP inserts like the all kings or alter egos. although the pack odds aren’t nearly as rare than those inserts, i would take a rookie all day over those inserts— especially looking at the price discrepancy. there is a severe mispricing to be taken place in my opinion.

these photos and videos don’t do it justice. it’s got to be held and viewed in proper light. i knew i had to have one the minute i held one 🤌🏼

$the 2018 bowman sterling continuity shohei ohtani atomic refractor /150 psa 10- this card is actually from a subset from bowman chrome, making it a rare insert and one of his best from his rookie year. a tier 1 ohtani card as i’ve been stating. it’s one of the few shohei rookies that depict him as a pitcher and hitter. in comparison to other 2018 rookies, it’s quite rare and has few parallels, with this atomic being the step down parallel from the base. i suggest picking one up now or at least the base in a psa 10 to hold in the long term as my thesis is pitching/batting imagery ohtani cards will surpass many of the other high pop rookies. #coolcards #shoheiohtani #bowmanchrome by @thefiendofdreams$
