Got a cultivar that stretches like crazy? Dry it back harder.

Liam Spenser (@theflyingliamur) of @aroya.io on the Growers MBA podcast with @elliott_greenthumbdepot:

Steering generative means bigger, deeper drybacks and a higher substrate EC. As water leaves the coco, oxygen fills the pore space, and the plant answers with more bud sites, more nodes, less leaf and less stem, and tighter internode spacing. Not every cultivar can take an aggressive dryback, so the goal is to stimulate the plant, not stress it.

Disclaimer, this is for crop steering in coco. Rockwool has much different constraints.

Send this to whoever runs your irrigation.

Harvest Tip: Don’t over-strip your plants! ✂️ Leaving some outer leaves can protect your buds and prevent the outside from drying out too fast, giving you a better, more even dry. Keep that dew point managed for a safe, high-quality cure!

Unlock the flavor! 🔑 A low water activity is safe (< 0.65), but it might not be ideal for quality or yield. We’re finding the precise parameters for perfect flavor and smoothness based on some key factors like tissue type, Trichome density and most importantly the drive room configuration & conditions 🔥💨

Episode 8 is Live!

Liam Spenser @theflyingliamur from @aroya.io stopped by and gave us as much game as one can give in 30 minutes.

Liam’s cannabis journey started at 13 in Florida, when he tried weed and quickly realized, “Why just enjoy it when I can profit from it?” He became a young entrepreneur, selling to fund his own research. In his early 20s, he became the go-to garden expert in Costa Rica and Ecuador, transforming urban spaces into lush green paradises. Now at Aroya, he’s using his expertise to help other growers optimize their operations.

Thanks for your time, Liam!
