The text+work publication series promote a forum for challenging dialogue between innovative contemporary art, design and media practice, and their theoretical context. text+work is the concept which underpins our exhibition programme, creative events and commissioned projects within the University.

Developed in 2003, text+work invites artists to develop exhibitions and events in partnership with writers and critics, who provide a supportive narrative in the form of published text to accompany the exhibitions.

The publications and essays produced by our text+work concept are commissioned writings and interviews from some of today’s most prominent curators, critics, artists, designers, filmmakers and writers. taken in United States by @thegallery_aub

An AUB Alumni Story, Honorary Fellow ……and what makes AUB…So GREAT…!

********
Gallery News - Last, term saw Violet being interviewed by AUB Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Gough for AUB’s News Channel.

*********
TheGallery at AUB is a major resource for contemporary art and design in the south of England with exhibitions that have received both national and international recognition.

It regularly hosts a number of artist talks, panel discussions and other events throughout the academic year to support the exhibition programme; some of which have included Zaha Hadid Architects, Professor Sir Peter Cook and Morag Myerscough.

As a valuable resource for AUB, it is integrated into its teaching, learning and research with many staff using TheGallery as a platform for their research and REF returns, such as the Living Design Show.

Working with colleagues from across the University, TheGallery team provide advice and support on all curatorial and technical aspects of an exhibition and mentor staff and students in staging their event.

It also has an established volunteering and work placement (unpaid interns) programme providing opportunities to develop intern’s skills in curating, collection management, marketing and events management, gaining an insight into the arts and how TheGallery operates.

Postgraduate Summer Show 2026: AUB Talents Shine at Arts by the Sea Festival

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) proudly showcased its creative talent at the Arts by the Sea Festival 2026, bringing a vibrant array of community workshops, pop-up gallery exhibitions, displays, exhibits, live music, and sustainable fashion to Bournemouth town centre and the wider festival fringe.

One of the highlights of the festival featured the exceptional work of Amanda Burch, an MA Historical Costume student.

Amanda’s "Masque Mollymauk” costume and mask is part of our Postgraduate Summer Shows 2026, which is currently on show in The Gallery.

The mask was a collaborative piece with Alex Ritzema, @ritzema__maker from BA (Hons) Modelmaking

The costume and mask temporarily left The Gallery for two days to be exhibited live at the Arts by the Sea Festival 2026.

The display generated immense excitement, giving public audiences a rare opportunity to get up close, interact directly with the costume, and mask and meet the designers and makers in person.

It was a weekend full of creativity, culture, and community spirit.

AUB Art Collection and The Gallery

This week, we have been deinstalling the Sir Frank Bowling artwork from the Library.

Sir Frank Bowling is an AUB Honorary Fellow, making this work a particularly significant part of the University’s Art Collection.

The artwork, is on loan to the University from a private collector.

The artwork is now on its way to London for a three-month exhibition at Hales Gallery, as part of Frieze.

We look forward to welcoming the artwork back to AUB following its exhibition.

Did you know that AUB has its own art collection?

AUB’s Art Collection comprises more than 800 works, including paintings, prints, drawings, photography and sculpture.

It reflects the diverse creative practices of the AUB community and includes work by notable artists and designers such as Ian McKeever, Sir Peter Cook, Philip Townsend, Alan Kitching, Rob and Roberta Smith, Martyn Brewster, Lester Lee, and Marcel Lamb.

Alongside AUB’s own collection, The Gallery also cares for works on loan from the John & Barbara Weeks Private Collection, Tim Harrison, and Bournemouth & Poole College.

The Gallery is responsible for the curation, management, preservation, and care of these collections, with works displayed throughout the University.

2026 Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize

Congratulations to Yvonne Crossley, whose work "Octogenarian Dancer (2025)" was awarded the 2026 Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize.

At 83, the mid-Wales artist has created a playful, larger-than-life suspended figure from looped monofilament and wire, a celebration of movement, ageing and everything the body can still do.

“I’m in my 80s… and one of the things that I’m interested in is some kind of celebration of arriving at this point in life.”

As she puts it: “I’m still dancing.”

A beautiful reminder that art, imagination, and creativity can continue to evolve at every stage of life.
