The newest addition to your collection care toolkit has arrived!
GHHN’s new publication The ABCs of Collection Care is now available as both a print book and an ebook.

The ABC's of Collection Care provides readers with answers to collection care questions, along with practical advice and encouragement on how to care for the objects in their collection. Featuring 144 full-color photographs of objects from some of the Hudson River Valley's historic sites and museums, this guide will aid staff and volunteers in care and handling, storage solutions, important points to remember, and when to seek out a professional conservator.

Since 1979, Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) has helped heritage keepers in New York State care for their collections through hands-on trainings, technical assistance, and grant opportunities for organizations statewide. We know how small and mid-size heritage organizations operate - we've worked alongside you every day for more than 40 years and are passionate about empowering all those who take on the role of collection steward.

Get your copy today- print books (just $20!) are available through the store in our bio or on our website (link in bio).

Thanks to the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area/Hudson River Valley Greenway for funding this publication!

GHHN is thrilled to receive a second grant from the National Park Service’s Save America’s Treasures program to conserve 12 nationally significant objects at eight small and mid-size museums across New York State.

The objects tell extraordinary stories: a rare Tiffany stained-glass window, a flag mourning the death of Abraham Lincoln, John Burroughs’ personal satchel, the original documents behind Jell-O’s early history, and more.

These treasures connect us to the people, ideas, and events that shaped our state and our nation. Through conservation and educational workshops, this project will help ensure they remain available for research, exhibitions, and public engagement for generations to come.

What does it take to preserve a work of art for generations to come? 🎨

From Decay to Display: Conserved Works from the Collection pulls back the curtain on the art and science of conservation, bringing together works from the CAM Collection that have undergone professional treatment—and sharing the stories of the care, expertise, and collaboration that helped preserve them.

Among the works on view are seven paintings conserved with support from the NYSCA/GHHN Conservation Treatment Grant Program: Jean Charlot’s La Tormenta, Albert Pinkham Ryder’s Moonlit Coastal Scene, Niagara Falls [from the Canadian side] (artist unknown, possibly Robert Reginald Whale), Ferdinand Richardt’s Niagara University, George Luks’ Portrait of a Girl with a Doll, Elmer Ellsworth Garnsey’s Sunset Yellowstone Canyon, and George Inness Jr.’s The Sunburst.

See these works—and the remarkable results of conservation—up close tomorrow night! ✨

Join us Thursday, October 8, for CAM’s Fall Opening Reception, celebrating From Decay to Display alongside Sasha Stiles: STANZA and finding rest by Joel Mulindwa.

💜 CAM Members Preview: 4:30–5 p.m.
🥂 Public Reception: 5–7 p.m.
🎟️ Free & open to the public

Come discover what happens behind the scenes to ensure the art of the past remains part of our future.

The conservation of the aforementioned paintings was supported through the NYSCA/GHHN Conservation Treatment Grant Program administered by Greater Hudson Heritage Network. This program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. taken in Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University by @theghhn

This morning, we wrapped up the Revolutionary Roundtables series with Pop-Up Exhibits & Public Engagement at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site in Yonkers.

Throughout the series, we’ve been thinking about how museums can experiment, question familiar approaches, and create meaningful experiences for visitors and today was a fitting way to bring it all together. Participants explored how interpretation can move beyond traditional gallery spaces, considered new ways to engage audiences in unexpected places, and experimented with a hands-on prototyping activity.

A huge thank you to our friends at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site for hosting us today, and to everyone who participated in one (or many) of these workshops. Your willingness to try things and share ideas is what made this series so much fun.

And, as always, we’re grateful to the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area/Hudson River Valley Greenway for supporting this series! and helping make these conversations possible.
