Well, this is rather lovely. Last Friday, @joelycett gave The Grapes a shout-out on his new show, @thelycettarms. Jack and Oli did us proud with this picture submission!

This Friday, he's putting his money where his mouth is and buying a few of you a drink. We're one of 30 pubs across the country that Joe has chosen to put £100 behind the bar, and we'll be opening his tab at 6pm.

Just ask for Joe Lycett's tab and you might find your next drink is on him. One drink per person, while the money lasts. It's a lovely little gesture, but there's a bigger point to all of this.

Pubs are so much more than places to buy a pint. They're meeting places, music venues, places to celebrate, commiserate, make friends and occasionally put the world to rights.

They're part of the fabric of our communities, and they need people to keep coming through their doors. So, here's to Joe, to the other 29 pubs, and to all the wonderful, weird and fiercely individual pubs across the country.

See you Friday! by @thegrapesbath

We’ve been handing out our new bar mats to our customers to ask them “What Makes a Local” and they’ve not held back!

We’ve kept them anonymous and we’ve had answers ranging from “dogs” to our range of live music, welcoming staff and the feeling you’re welcome, whoever you are. Honestly, it’s made our hearts swell!

If you want to add your thoughts, we will even lend you a pen! Just ask at the bar if you don’t see one to fill in taken in The Grapes Bath by @thegrapesbath

Two things are happening at The Grapes from 6pm tonight!

Joe Lycett’s tab opens at 6pm. After last week’s shout-out on @thelycettarms, @joelycett has put £100 behind the bar here, one of 30 pubs across the country he’s chosen. Ask for Joe Lycett’s tab and your next drink could be on him. One drink per person, while the money lasts.

At the same time, The Grapes Record Box gets going. Twelve whole albums chosen by our staff, played side A then side B. No skipping, no shuffle, no requests. Loud enough to enjoy, quiet enough to hear the person next to you.

A drink on Joe, a good record and a proper conversation. Not a bad way to begin the weekend. by @thegrapesbath

Once a month, Pocock’s Living Room fills with ukuleles, guitars, harmonicas and a room full of voices.

Bath Skiffle is about as unfussy as music gets. Three chords, a shared songbook and players of every level, from people who’ve been strumming for decades to those who just came up for a pint and ended up singing the chorus. Nobody’s performing at anyone. It’s a room of people making a lot of cheerful noise together, exactly the sort of mid-week pick-up you're looking for!

Someone in this video called it the best night of the month. We wouldn’t argue.

Next session: Today, Wednesday 14th from 8pm
Pocock’s Living Room, upstairs. Stairs only, no lift.
Free entry. No tickets. Just turn up

Blues Night Jam at The Grapes.

Every second Tuesday, Bath locals @lloyd_edwards_music and @art_makes_music set up in the bar and lay down the groundwork for a proper blues night. Between them, they bring years of blues, country and rock, and they’re there to back whoever steps up.

Two hours of twelve-bar, rock and blues, shaped by the players in the room. Some come to play, plenty come to listen, and the bar fills up either way.

Spots to play tend to go early, so musicians who would like to play should get in touch with Art or Lloyd ahead of the night via artbanymandhubmusic@gmail.com

Tuesday from 8pm, in the bar.

Free entry. No tickets. Just turn up. by @thegrapesbath

Sunday afternoons at The Grapes have always been for unhurried music, and @bathfolkfestival closes its run here in fitting style.

Art's Sunday Sermon presents Lauren Bradford at 4pm. A folk singer-songwriter from San Francisco, she pairs a clear voice with finely picked acoustic guitar, carrying her own poetic songs with honesty and urgency, from stirring anthems to quieter, thoughtful ballads.

A gentle end to a full week of folk, and a good reason to stay for one more.

Saturday at The Grapes is given over entirely to @bathfolkfestival, from afternoon storytelling to an evening of fiddles, flutes and clarinets.

@jemfredroberts starts things at 2pm with Folk Tales of Britain. Old stories from Wales, Scotland, Kernow, England and the Isles, retold for now by the curious storyteller Brother Bernard, each with a guide to where the tale really took place. A building that has welcomed travellers since 1694 seems the right place to hear them.

At 4pm, Jem returns with The Unrelated Family for Folk n' Funny, back after nearly a decade. Once a festival tradition, it is a jamboree of comic folk songs and spoofs, best enjoyed with a pint in hand.

Katie Stevens and Aaron Olwell take the evening at 7pm. From Birmingham to Virginia, they bring Appalachian fiddle, Irish flute, Balkan clarinet and tunes picked up from everywhere in between.

@tradinettes close the day at 8pm. Four celebrated musicians showing the clarinet in a light you may not have heard before.

Saturday 10th October
2pm: Folk Tales of Britain with Jem Roberts
4pm: Folk n' Funny with Jem Roberts and The Unrelated Family
7pm: Katie Stevens and Aaron Olwell
8pm: The Tradinettes

Friday at The Grapes, @bathfolkfestival brings two very different sides of folk to the bar.

@violetavicci opens the evening at 7.30pm with @thelivingroomatthegrapes. Born in Barcelona, she builds immersive soundscapes from layered violin, voice and electronics, somewhere between contemporary classical and something harder to name. A slower, more spacious start to a Friday than the bar is used to, and all the better for it.

Tickets via the link in the bio

At 9pm, Tor take over. A three-piece trading fast-paced Irish and English melodies, with duelling pipes, whistles and flutes driven along by guitar and drums. Proper Friday night music and free entry!
