I’ve had a lot of intentional coffee meetups this week and it’s funny how every week there seems to be a theme. This week it was impact. I think sometimes we forget the impact we have on other people. Something you said might have made someone laugh when they were having a really shitty day. A little support might have been exactly what someone needed to keep going. An idea you shared might have made someone look at their business, their relationship or even their life differently. Sometimes it’s literally just a smile.
The thing is, you never really know what someone else is going through. And you probably won’t ever know how much some small thing you did meant to them. We all have different stories. Different backgrounds. Different struggles. But we all have the ability to make someone else’s day a little better.

So that’s what I’m taking into the rest of this week. Be the light when someone is going through darkness. Be kind. Support people. Encourage people. Smile at people. Make an impact. You never know how far that one little moment might carry.

This episode of Heart of the Matter is about what happens when you refuse to let where you started determine where you finish.

Buddy Rushing @buddyrushing grew up poor, on welfare and food stamps, but somehow beat the odds to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy, become a Marine officer and serve multiple deployments overseas.

But this story is just as much about Kimberly @realworldrushings .

They talk about their first real estate investment, Buddy deploying while Kimberly learned the business as she went, and the decision to eventually leave the military and bet on themselves.

That bet became White Feather Investments and a mission much bigger than building wealth for their own family. Today, they help veterans, first responders and others learn how to create financial freedom, while continuing to evolve as entrepreneurs and now teaching people how to practically use AI in business and everyday life.

This isn’t just a story about money. It’s about marriage, sacrifice, resilience, taking risks and changing the trajectory of your life.

Our first gathering in Dana Point @projectsocial.us reminded me exactly why The Group exists.

Different city. New faces. Same need.

People are craving real community.

I met some incredible souls, heard their stories, watched strangers become connections, and listened as the same words kept coming up again and again:

Collaboration. Support. Connection.

It reminded me that what we’re building is bigger than any one chapter or city.

The Group is about creating spaces where people can show up as themselves. Where we choose community over competition. Where your success is celebrated, your struggles are supported, and you never have to walk your journey alone.

And now, that community is growing.

I love doing podcasts because they give you something social media rarely does, the space to tell your story authentically.

I had a great conversation with Allen Carasco about the story behind The Group, why I started it, and how a simple passion for bringing people together became something so much bigger than I ever imagined.

The Group was never about networking. It’s about belonging, connection, and finding your people.

My favorite part? The story is still being written by every person who walks through our doors.

Here we come South OC!

What started as my passion project has become something so much bigger. A passion shared and carried forward by an incredible community.

@thegroupsd is officially expanding into South OC, and I couldn’t be more excited about the three amazing, heart-centered women helping lead the way: @suzeqrocks Susie Q @soulflowspaces Aga Karas, and, @soul_alignment_sessions Kim Ishikawa.

These are exactly the kind of people I dreamed would carry this mission into new communities, people who genuinely care about others, believe in connection, and want to create a place where everyone feels welcomed, supported and seen.

This is how The Group grows. Not simply by opening more chapters, but by finding incredible humans who believe in the mission enough to make it their own.

One passion project has become our passion project. Make the Group whatever you want for you and get inspired.

South OC, we’re coming and I can’t wait to see what this community creates together.
