Our thoughts, emotions, stress, sense of safety and nervous system can all create very real changes in the body.

Think about identical twins. They can have the same genes, grow up in the same home and even have a lot of the same habits, but their health can still turn out very differently. One might develop an illness that runs in the family while the other never does.

So what else is at play?

Our genes matter, but they’re not the whole story. Stress, relationships, our environment, what we’re exposed to, how we sleep, what we eat, how we move and even how our nervous system responds to life can all affect what’s happening inside our bodies.

I find that fascinating. We’re not just the genes we were born with. Our bodies are constantly responding to the lives we’re living. 🌿 by @theholisticbodyworker_

Yet another course in the books! 🤍🤓

Last weekend I had the opportunity to learn from @lymphaticswithliz about the lymphatic system and how to incorporate lymphatic drainage principles into my Ortho Bionomy practice.

My biggest takeaway was really understanding the direction lymph flows and why the order we work with the body matters.

Rather than simply trying to move fluid away from an area that feels congested, we first want to make sure the pathways downstream are open and moving well. Otherwise, we may just be encouraging more fluid toward an area that is already restricted.

It gave me a much better understanding of looking at lymphatic flow as a whole body pathway, creating space downstream first, then working outward and allowing fluid to follow its natural route.

I’m excited to start incorporating more of this into my bodywork. 🌿🤍

FROM CARLY

Hi, I’m Carly, a holistic bodyworker with six years of ongoing training in Ortho-Bionomy, along with certification in Usui Reiki.

My approach is gentle, non-invasive bodywork that works with both the physical body and the energetic field, supporting your body’s natural self-corrective abilities. I believe your body already knows what to do- it just doesn’t always have the information it needs to do it.

Rather than forcing muscles, joints, or the energetic system to change, I use gentle positioning, movement, and energetic awareness to offer the nervous system clearer information about what’s happening. As awareness increases, the body often begins to release tension, improve movement, restore energetic flow, and reorganize itself in a more balanced way.

I don’t see my role as fixing people. I see it as helping the body become more aware of itself-physically and energetically-because with awareness comes choice.

Your body already knows what to do.

I’ve been procrastinating on my Ortho-Bionomy demonstration for years and now it’s finally done 😮‍💨

Part of the hesitation was the planning and formality of it all, but if I’m being honest, a much bigger part was the fear of being judged. Not only for how I speak or demonstrate the work, but for the identity I’m creating as a holistic bodyworker.

I think this fear has also prolonged my certification. Somewhere along the way, I created an expectation that once I became certified, I would have to be perfect. I would have to know everything, help everyone, and never mess up.

Recently, a friend said something that really stayed with me: “Even if you’re able to help one person, isn’t that worth it?”

And it is.

Nothing is going to help everyone, and I’m not expected to help everyone. But there have already been people who have told me that this work has helped them substantially, and that alone makes sharing it worthwhile.

I have spent years learning this work alongside a full-time career, and I’m realizing that I don’t need to wait until I feel completely ready or perfectly confident to put myself out there.

So this is me going for it.

Not with the expectation of being perfect, but with the intention to keep learning, improving, and growing. There is no final point where we know everything. There is always room to become better, and I think being willing to grow matters far more than being perfect ever could.

✨ also, thank you to my amazing friends that supported me through this 💕💕💕 @kaylarowand @strvngelyintriguing @facesbymicah

✨Always Learning✨

A couple weeks ago I took the “Below the Dome” class: a three day Abdominal Visceral Ortho Bionomy course taught by Advanced Instructor Michael Miller.

The work has roots in the visceral manipulation of French osteopath Jean Pierre Barral. Darlene Smith studied his approach and began adapting those concepts using the much gentler principles of Ortho Bionomy. Mike later spent six years assisting Darlene as the work continued to evolve.

The concept is to see the viscera as a community, recognizing that our organs are not isolated structures, but are constantly moving and interacting with each other and the rest of the body. The work explores these relationships and uses gentle positioning and awareness to support the body’s natural ability to find greater balance.

It’s essentially taking the principles I already use in Ortho Bionomy and bringing that same way of listening to the body into the visceral system.

Now comes the practice! 😂

Rather than fighting against the body’s patterns, we listen to them, work with them, and invite the body’s natural self-corrective instincts to take over.

Because lasting change doesn’t come from overpowering the body.

It comes from helping the body remember what it already knows. ✨

“LASTING change can only come about when the self-corrective instincts of the body are summoned in such a way that the body does not resist change. Anything beyond this is force, which when applied too much, leads only to rebellion of the self instead of a reunification of the harmonic whole.”

— Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls, founder of Ortho-Bionomy

This experiment isn’t meant to suggest that our perceptions are right or wrong.

It’s an invitation to become curious about the lens we’re looking through.

How much of what we experience is being seen through our current emotional state?

And how much are we seeing for what it is?

I don’t think it’s all or nothing.

I think it’s a spectrum.

Sometimes our emotions may narrow our perspective, highlighting certain details while filtering out others.

Other times, they may help us notice something we would have otherwise missed.

The question isn’t whether our feelings are good or bad.

It’s whether we’re aware that they’re participating in how we experience the world.

For me, that’s where freedom begins.

Not by trying to get rid of my emotions…

but by becoming curious about how they’re shaping my perception.

Because awareness doesn’t necessarily change reality.

But it can broaden the lens through which we experience it.

A bit of a vulnerable post 😬 this is what I started experimenting with and when sharing it with a close friend they encouraged me to post about it.. so, here it is..

A little perception experiment for you ✨

Try this the next time you’re out for a walk… or honestly, throughout your day.

Around different people.
In different environments.
When you’re feeling amazing.
When you’re feeling off.
When you’re drawn to someone.
When someone makes you tense.

Pause.

Notice your body.

Notice the space around you.

Notice what shifts.

Because what fascinates me is how quickly our internal experience can change based on what we’re around, what we’re focusing on, or even what we’re imagining.

And if our internal state shifts… perception shifts too.

That feeling can become a lens we see life through without even realizing it.

But on the flip side…

how much more of reality becomes available when we stop just looking at life…

and actually start feeling our way through it?

Try this with trees.
With the ocean.
With people.
With places.
With a tough decision.
With directions.

Get curious!

Your body might be noticing more than your mind is.

One thing I’ve been realizing lately is how much our internal state shapes our perception of reality.

The same interaction can feel completely different depending on what’s happening in your body.

If you’re anxious, overwhelmed, tense, dysregulated, carrying stress, or holding onto something unresolved… that becomes part of the lens you experience life through.

Not because your feelings aren’t valid.

But because your nervous system is part of how you experience reality.

And that realization has honestly changed a lot for me.

It’s made me more curious about my reactions instead of immediately identifying with them.

More aware of when something feels heavy because of what I’m carrying… versus what’s actually happening in front of me.

And it’s also made me appreciate bodywork on a much deeper level.

Because sometimes healing isn’t about “fixing” your thoughts.

Sometimes it’s about helping your body feel safe enough to stop filtering everything through tension, stress, protection, or old patterns.

When your system has more ease…

life can feel different.

Relationships can feel different.

Decisions can feel clearer.

You may not be seeing a different reality…

but you may be experiencing less distortion.

And for me, that’s been one of the most profound parts of this work. by @theholisticbodyworker_

Is what you see felt… or is what you feel seen?

This question came through while I was meditating on the Chief, and it honestly changed the way I understand perception.

It made me realize how much of the way I was experiencing life was being shaped by what I was carrying internally.

Not because life around me wasn’t real, but because my internal state was influencing how I interpreted it.

And that realization was actually a huge catalyst for me doing the hard work of moving through what was stuck in my body instead of continuing to live through that lens unconsciously.

Because when you’re carrying stress, pain, grief, fear, old patterns… it shapes what you notice, how you interpret things, and the stories you tell yourself about reality.

But it also works the other way. What we take in through people, environments, conversations, experiences… all of that affects us too.

So what happens when we start paying attention to both?

Not just what’s happening around us, but what’s happening within us in response to it.

Maybe expanded awareness isn’t about seeing more.

Maybe it’s about noticing more of what’s already influencing how we see.

How often do we mistake perception for reality?
