📚☕️ Bean & Book: When I Kill You by B. A. Paris

A book that had me suspicious of absolutely everyone… except the actual killer. 👀

I really enjoyed When I Kill You! The suspense was there from the beginning, and for a good portion of the book I was convinced I had figured out what was going on — except I was completely wrong. 😂

For a while, I genuinely thought it was someone else… or possibly a whole group of people working together. The actual reveal caught me off guard, which is exactly what I want from a thriller.

One thing I particularly loved was the way the chapters ended with “When I kill you…” It created this constant sense of dread because you knew something was coming, but you never quite knew what.

The suspense was palpable, and I actually found myself really feeling for the main character. Her situation pulled me into the story rather than just making me curious about the mystery, which made everything feel much more intense.

And that’s always a good sign for me — when I’m genuinely invested in what happens to the characters rather than just trying to solve the puzzle. 🤎

A great read, a twist I didn’t see coming, and definitely one I’d recommend if you enjoy suspenseful thrillers that keep you guessing.

🤎 The Honest Mum Life — Wedding Errands Edition

A day of wedding errands, mum duties and trying to keep the house from completely falling apart. 😂

Had my little sidekick with me while we tackled some wedding errands and cleaned the house to make it look like actual humans live here rather than a tiny tornado had passed through 🫠

Then off to the playground because apparently toddlers do not accept “Mummy has things to do” as a valid excuse for staying home. 😂🛝

And today was also a solo-parenting day snd night which meant being the snack provider, entertainer, cleaner, organiser, emotional support department and basically the entire staff. 😂

It was busy, a little chaotic and definitely not Pinterest-perfect… but we got through it.

And honestly, sometimes that’s what a successful day looks like. 🤎

Some days I read almost 100 pages.
Some days I managed 7. 😂

And honestly? That’s pretty much what reading looks like for me these days.

Monday: ✨ surprisingly productive
Tuesday: “I’ll read later…”
Wednesday: somehow found a little pocket of time
Thursday: toddler said absolutely not 😂
Friday: finally getting back into it
Saturday: ✨ actual reading time?!
Sunday: 7 pages and I’m calling it a win. 🫠

Between work, nursery runs, meals, housework, toddler chaos, wedding planning and everything else that seems to fill a day, reading doesn’t always happen in big chunks.

Sometimes it’s 20 minutes before bed.
Sometimes it’s a few pages while my coffee is still warm.
Sometimes I read one chapter and feel like I’ve achieved something. 😂

And I think that’s something I’ve had to accept as a mum — reading doesn’t have to look the way it did before kids to still count. 🤎

So here’s my very realistic week of reading… pages, interruptions and all. by @thehonestchapter

Bean & Book ☕️📚 — His New Girlfriend by Lauren North

Another ARC I’m VERY happy to have been approved for on NetGalley… and this one did not disappoint. 👀

The suspense was there from the very beginning, and those short chapters were honestly dangerous. 😂 Each one was roughly five minutes on Kindle and almost every chapter ended on a cliffhanger, so naturally “I’ll just read one more” turned into “well, apparently bedtime is optional.” 🫠📖

I spent a good part of the book convinced I knew who was behind everything… I was wrong. 😂 The ending was WILD, and I definitely didn’t see it coming. I love when a thriller manages to make me confidently suspect the wrong person for half the book.

Fast-paced, suspenseful, easy to fly through and with an ending that genuinely caught me off guard.

Definitely one to add to your list if you love a quick, twisty suspense read. 👀

And the best part? You don’t have to wait too long…

The Honest Mum Life — working morning edition. 🤎

A morning of trying to remember everyone’s bags, everyone’s belongings and approximately 700 things that cannot be forgotten. 😂

Bags packed ✔️
Childcare drop-off ✔️
Off to work ✔️
Endoscopy list ✔️
Somehow survived ✔️
Childcare pick-up ✔️
Package received ✔️

And somewhere in between all of that, I’m apparently expected to remember what’s for dinner. 🫠

Just another morning of switching between mum mode, nurse mode, household manager mode and “wait… what was I doing?” mode. 😂

It’s not glamorous, but it’s real life — and honestly, sometimes getting through the morning without forgetting the child is an achievement in itself. 😂🤎

A very small glimpse into the TBR situation over here… 😂📚

Because apparently having enough books to keep me occupied for the next several years isn’t going to stop me from adding more. 👀

These are just a few of the books currently waiting for me — and somehow the list keeps growing faster than I can actually read it. 🫠

Some have been sitting there patiently for ages, some are recent additions and some are books I swore I was going to read next… approximately 7 books ago. 😂

The TBR is endless.
The reading time is not.
The book-buying/add-to-TBR urge? Thriving. 😂📚

POV: my favourite thing about summer is watching it end. 😂🍂

Give me cooler days, cosy clothes, candles, soup, endless coffee and staying home without feeling guilty about it. 🥹☕️🤎

So naturally, I decided to fully embrace cosy season — got myself ready for a day at home, made soup, made coffee and settled in for Twilight with my little girl. 🧛🏻‍♂️🌲😂

Honestly, I was made for this time of year. Give me a blanket and a book and I’m happy.

Now the important question…

Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? 👀🧛🏻‍♂️🐺

This week’s Bean & Book pairing: Verity by Colleen Hoover with a bubblegum latte. 🩷☕️📖

I went into Verity not expecting much of a thriller. I was more familiar with Colleen Hoover for her romance, so I definitely underestimated her with this one.

And wow… Verity was WILD. 👀

The suspense starts almost immediately, and that house? Creepy. The whole atmosphere had this unsettling feeling that made me feel like something was wrong from the very beginning.

And Verity herself was exactly the kind of villain I love. The kind that makes you question absolutely everything and leaves you wondering who you can actually trust. And somehow, for the first time in a thriller, I found myself on the husband’s side. 😂👀

I’ll be honest, there were parts of this book that were genuinely difficult for me to read as a mum. But I also think that’s part of what makes a book memorable. When a story can make you feel something — discomfort, anger, joy, shock, whatever it may be — it has clearly done its job.

And this book made me feel A LOT. 😂

Verity was disturbing, suspenseful, completely unhinged and absolutely not what I expected going in. I can definitely see why it’s become such a talked-about thriller.

An afternoon in the life of a mum… otherwise known as running approximately 47 errands before bedtime. 😂

Started with a list of things that needed doing, including finding a swimming life-vest for our little girl 🏊🏽‍♀️, followed by a honeymoon appointment because apparently we’re actually getting married and going on honeymoon soon. 👀✈️🤎

Obviously, no afternoon of errands is complete without a coffee stop. ☕️😂

Then it was off to ballet, home to make dinner, followed by the bedtime routine… bath, pyjamas, stories, all the usual negotiations. 😂

And finally… TEA. ☕️
The moment I had been working towards all afternoon. 😂

Nothing particularly glamorous, nothing perfectly aesthetic — just errands, toddler activities, appointments, coffee, dinner, bedtime and finally a little bit of quiet.

Because reading ARCs sounds very glamorous until you remember that you’re also trying to work, raise a tiny human, keep the house somewhat functional, make dinner, create content… and occasionally remember to drink your coffee before it goes cold. 😂☕️

These are some of the ARCs I’ve managed to squeeze in between the chaos — during nap times, after bedtime, on quiet evenings, and whenever I could steal a few minutes to myself.

Getting to read books before they’re released is honestly something I still get ridiculously excited about. 🥹📚 Especially when it means discovering a book before everyone else and getting to share my thoughts with you.

It may not always be “read 100 pages in one sitting” reading around here, but somehow we get there. 😂
