girls night out at @spicymangonola 🤭 this was such a girl lala dining experience! We ordered some creamy espresso martinis and they were STRONG😭 We started with the shrimp ceviche and the grilled elote (my fav). As you can see in the first pic by the two relatively empty plates on the table, we tore it up. For entrees, we got the braised oxtails and the nola cuban and those were delish! (Not as good as oxtail you’d get in Jamaica but still very good) It was my friend’s birthday, so they surprised us with some birthday shots and those were so yummy. Overall, I give Spicy Mango a 9/10!

Allow me to reintroduce myself🤭 my name is Macie, aka the Hungry Barb! Some fun facts about me are that I was born and raised in the 7th ward of New Orleans (so I know good food), my culinary experience includes stint as a culinary student at NOCCA in high school, and I love everything about food (cooking, eating, grocery stopping, farmers markets, trying new restaurants, etc). I’ve been taking a much needed hiatus because of law school but I’m back and better! I’m looking forward to eating good and reporting back to y’all with all the juicy deets!

a cutesy little celebration dinner/girls night out 👩🏽‍🤝‍👩🏻 at @juniorsonharrison dare I say that Junior’s is the perfect place for a girls night out.. if your vibe is an aesthetic restaurant with indoor/outdoor (up and downstairs) seating for drinks and apps, you need to pay Junior’s a visit! We started with the Brussels sprouts and citrus salmon crispy rice, and they were both 10/10s😵‍💫maybe even 12/10.. next time I come here, I’m def trying more of the appetizers. For our first drink, we had the seasonal frozen bev, which was a ginger peach vodka frozen drink, I’d give it a solid 8.7/10. I wish it was a little more peachy than gingery but it was still a delish drink. For our entree, we both got the chicken francese. While it wasn’t my favorite (I felt like the pasta could’ve been cooked a little longer, it needed more of a sauce, and it needed salt and pepp), the chicken cutlet was cooked perfectly! We ended our meal with an espresso martini and a glass of Prosecco and bby we were stuffed when we left the premises. I’d give it a 8/10! When we go back next time, we’ll def be exploring the menu more!

girls night out at @saintjohnnola 👫🏾👫🏾 confession: this was the first time this year I’ve cleared my plate at a new (to me) restaurant🫣 but bby that creole beef daube was immaculate. Our waitress said I wasn’t going to need a knife and she told no lies. Not only were the food and drinks amazing, but the vibes were 10/10! Our waitress was incredibly informative and we had a lovely conversation with the owner, Chef Cook! Also, when I was greeted by the hostess, and I admired the artwork in the entrance, she pointed out how it was actually a collection of recipes, and some were the chef’s recipes! Idk if I’m just a food nerd but I thought that was so cool. Everything was amazing, the restaurant was aesthetically pleasing, it was worth every penny paid. I’d give it a 10/10, I’ll def be back!

date night @merilnola 🍸 we had a cute little downtown date night and we ended the evening at Meril. The vibes were great and the food was even better. Whoever was behind the bar was doing their thing bc that was a solid lemon drop fr. Everything was so good but you see that flatbread and those tacos? So good y’all. Kinda wish I ordered a flat bread to go🥲but overall this is such a great date night spot! I’d give it a 9/10, def will be back!

Another confession: I love lunch dates😭I’ve also been on quite a few lunch dates at @johnnysancheznola . I’m a taco girly, so every time I go I order a few tacos. The cauliflower tacos are SO GOOD! The meatball on the albondigas taco is so tender and flavorful, and I really like the shrimp taco, too! Also I’m a really big fan of their frozen margs, 10/10 scrumptious fr!

confession: I’ve been to 4 lunch dates at @chapterivnola in the past month🫣 Right now, our fav menu items are the crab cake, the crab fried rice, and the gumbo. The staff is always super friendly and the food is always hot, fresh, and so yummy! Definitely looking forward to our next Chapter IV lunch date! 10/10, it’s hungry barb approved😋

Valentine’s Day dinner Kingfish❤️‍🔥 Dinner in the French Quarter was a vibe fr. We started with the crawfish bread and the jambalaya risotto. The crawfish bread was really good and flavorful, but the risotto tasted like a combination of jambalaya, red beans, and gumbo (flavor wise). The flavor was there for sure, I just wouldn’t classify this as a risotto. For our entrees we got the bbq scallop fettuccine and the pepper crusted filet. I asked for medium but my steak was pushing medium well, but it was still delicious and I really enjoyed the Brussels sprouts. The pasta was good, but I wasn’t crazy about the scallops. For my two drinks I got the blueberry hill, which is comparable to a blueberry lemon drop, and the hurricane. The blueberry hill was my fav! Overall, we really enjoyed dinner. The vibes were perfect and romantic, and the service was good. This is definitely a cute lil date night spot. I’d give it a 8/10🥂

Velvet Cactus! Our waitress suggested their seasonal drinks, so I ordered the pomegranate margarita, and a shot of casamigos (not pictured). The margarita was surprisingly really good, it wasn’t too tequila-y but it was strong enough. Aj ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas with Mexican rice and beans for his sides. The steak fajitas were good, but I don’t think it was evenly seasoned. Some pieces were extremely seasoned and others were bland. I ordered the El Big Burrito with filet mignon, drenched in queso. I know that it’s called the big burrito, but that was a big ass burrito lol. We also got the crawfish queso to share, and it was pretty good, but the consistency was a little weird. Overall I’d give it a 7.5/10🌯

Date night at Hieux Boil House! This was so good y’all, I ate every piece of crab and left no crumbs (I’m not exaggerating, it was delicious lol)! We ordered 3lbs of crawfish with garlic butter, medium heat. We also ordered the Cajun alfredo pasta, and it was pretty good! I got 1lb of snow crab with Cajun and garlic butter, high heat. I also added potatoes and eggs. When I say it was delicious, it was delicious. I would still get my crawfish from Cajuns or the blue store, but I’m definitely coming back here for crab legs! Also, our server, Chuck, was so funny, like the man had us weak. The music was also great, they played a mix of old and new r&b. 9.5/10 for sure🦀 (I took off 0.5 because that peach Bellini was mid)

Finally got to Mochinut!!! The place is so cute, really a vibe. I got the caramel churro donut, a half mozzarella half hot dog hot Cheetos corn dog, and a milk tea with boba. The donut was so good and fresh, and it wasn’t overly sweet either. The corn dog was good, but while the hot Cheetos crust was good, I wouldn’t get it next time because I had hot Cheeto crumbs all over my car. This was my first time trying milk tea with boba and it was pretty good. I normally get milk tea or Thai tea without boba, but the boba was an interesting addition! Definitely will be visiting again🧋

Late lunch at Lakeview Pearl with Bella! We also had the crab rangoons, but they were so good I forgot to take a pic. Overall, it was a 10/10. It wasn’t super crowded, the rolls we had were great, and the vibes were great🥢
