2026 marks the 12th anniversary of our creative journey we started together as THE JOELSONS. We are incredibly proud of everything our true “Mom & Pop” shop has accomplished. The Beauty was one of our standout projects of 2025. We traveled to Venice, Italy with our friends at FX to capture motion portraits of the show’s talent for the incredible teaser they directed. The creative concept presented several technical challenges, all of which required thoughtful planning and precise execution.

To achieve perfectly repeatable camera moves, we turned to motion control. This ensured critical focus on the talent across every take, while also giving us the freedom to animate lighting cues. Those lighting passes could then be blended in post to create the striking visual effects in camera.

Another major challenge was designing a shot that could begin as a wide portrait and push seamlessly all the way into the eyes. The 120mm @leitzcine Thalia paired with the @sonycine Venice 2 proved to be the ideal tool set. Despite its long focal length, its exceptional close-focus capability made the move possible.

From a cinematography standpoint, we embraced the challenge of recreating the bold, graphic look of the key art while tailoring the lighting for each individual. By stopping the lens down to T8–T11, we achieved an ultra sharp, high-impact image echoing the feel of strobe-lit key art stills. This is where the Thalia’s sharpness truly comes to life.

2025 was a year filled with epic travels, adventures and memories to last a lifetime. From Venice, Italy to Yosemite with a little mid-west and a whole lot of West coast mixed in, we lived our best lives personally and professionally. We hit the road with our film family to Tulsa, Oklahoma to capture landscapes and postcard moments for The Lowdown graphics package. Tulsa and the surrounding areas are packed with so much character — a perfect slice of Americana. This turned out to be another fantastic collaboration lead by @ryanhunnewell and the team at FX. So often we create work and then wait months or longer for it to be released. Then life gets busy…but as the saying goes, better late than never.

We worked on so many great projects last year and THIS ONE with @fatjoe for STARZ was one of my favorites.

From the concepting phase to the final edit, this one was an absolute dream to work on. First off, it was it produced by two of my favorite humans (looking at you @productionon5th) so we were absolutely winning from the start. On top of that, we had the opportunity to collaborate with talented Production Designer @jessenemeth who understood the assignment and went beyond to create greatness. We had some challenging camera and lighting cues and our kickass NY crew didn’t flinch. With the minds and hands of many, we created something special. Found these fun behind the scenes photos on my hard drive of our days working on the Lioness promos last summer. Michael Kelly wins the award for being the coolest. Zoë Saldana wins the professionalism award for making sure we got everything we wanted with a beautiful and powerful performance. And Morgan Freeman wins the best friend award for being genuine and giving good hugs. Thanks to the rest of the cast and crew for showing up and giving it 100%.
