It’s Women’s History Month!!!

I had a vision of sharing these women’s stories during Women’s History Month so they could be apart of the conversation amongst other amazing women in history 🥹 I can’t believe that day is here.

This book reading was so special, I loved hearing what woman resonated with each of the kids ♥️ they didn’t remember their names but they remembered their stories and the more we talk about them and read about them, they’ll remember their names too! These women’s stories deserve to be told & they deserve to be celebrated.

Their names are Maria Orosa, Nieves Fernandez, Magdalena Leones, Simeona Punsalan-Tapang, Remedios Gomez-Paraiso, Januaria Constantino Keller, Josefa Escoda, Josefina Guerrero, Valeria Panlilio. I’m grateful for their courage, resilience & fight for freedom that paved the way for us to be.

Growing up I wish I knew about these brave, courageous, BADASS women, I’m so excited that now you can! A Limited Edition of “Kalayaan” is up for presale! These limited edition 10 x 10 signed copies are numbered 1-100 and are exclusive to this pre-order (Link In Bio)

The book will be widely available April 14.

Before kapeng barako was in our lola's kitchen, Philippine coffee had a golden age. ☕🇵🇭

Swipe through the history of Philippine coffee: how it took root in Lipa, Batangas, how the world turned to us when coffee rust hit, and how farmers, roasters and new voices are bringing it back today.

🎧 Hear the full story with @robert.sonza15 of @himigcoffeeroasters Link in bio.

📌 Save this and share it with someone who loves their kape.

If you can’t find it, create it. That’s exactly what @robert.sonza15 did. ☕

He tasted coffee from Brazil, Colombia and Bali, but never from the Philippines. After nine years as a barista, he went looking for Philippine coffee and couldn’t find it at the Filipino coffee shops near him in New Jersey. So he ordered a bag from a place in LA, took one sip, and knew there was more flavor waiting to be brought out. Roasting classes, a small roaster at home, months of experimenting, and that’s when @himigcoffeeroasters was born.

This Filipino American History Month, we’re sharing Robert’s story and the history of Philippine coffee, from kapeng barako to keeping Filipino coffee alive.

🎧 Full episode out now. Link in bio.

#Filipino History doesn’t have to be done alone. 🇵🇭

It’s the start of Filipino American History Month. And if your feed is Filipino, you’re going to be inundated with history and culture for the next 31 days.

We all know it can be overwhelming, but what happens after the month is over? 🤷🏻‍♂️

We spoke with John Sapida, President of the Filipino American National Historical Society - Metro New York Chapter. He proudly shared his organization’s mission: to provide a place to begin the journey of Filipino identity and learn about it with others. FANHS has about 48 chapters across the United States, and if you didn’t know they exist, here’s where you can start. 🫂

Listen right now to the latest episode of Future Ancestors with John Sapida, where you get your podcasts 🎙

This first photo reminded me of my younger self 🥹 that little girl who felt safe to smile with her eyes closed, dream big, and just believe.

The second photo is the Lioness I grew into. Wiser, more grounded, knowing who she is, loving herself, and still carrying that little girl with me 🙏🏽

In my speech I mentioned that we are our ancestors’ wildest dreams, and last week I got to stand in that truth with @jasonencite @theestebanserrano and my family. We’ve been building @futureancestors.tv for 3 years, and we’re just getting started.

Thank you again @fanhsmny for this honor and congratulations again to the other awardees all doing great work! There were so many beautiful moments in the event like watching @billybcreative being honored by his friends @lizcasasola great job! I was teary eyed 🥹 I was so in the moment I forgot to take my own photos lol!

So here's a compilation of the few I took, some I screenshotted & a few that were sent to me.

I did manage to take a photo of some great events @fanhsmny has coming up. And if you're from Jersey, we have a FANHS NJ chapter brewing! If you're interested lmk 😊

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the look of the day. 🌸 I want to thank & honor the people who helped bring my vision to life. Thank you to @weekendmaterial for the adornment, @narrastudio for my hand woven malong so my bother from another mother @onealwyche could work his magic, I'm so grateful for you!

Maraming, maraming salamat sa lahat ng nasa room! If you’re looking to collaborate, DM me! Let’s build. ✨ taken in Queens Museum by @thekatosphere

Thank you, NJ!! We’ve got a FULL HOUSE!

We started this wondering if we could fill a 99-seat theater and you all said, “that’s cute.” 😂

The response has been so big that we’re now scrambling to see if we can move into an even bigger room and get more folks off the waitlist.

Soooo… if you’re a local business or organization that wants to chip in and help us get more of our community into the theater, DM me. We’re pulling this together in real time and every bit helps.

Filipino stories on the big screen + a theater full of our community. This is exactly what we wanted. 🇵🇭

September 23 • AMC Clifton Commons • Clifton, NJ
———
(and yes I took down the actual link now 😭)
Join us Wednesday in Clifton, NJ for a FREE community screening of DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island before it officially hits theaters on September 25.

We’re bringing the Filipino community together for an early look, and we’d love to fill the room. Bring your friends, your family, your titas, your cousins… you know the drill.

🎬 Free community screening

🌿Gratitude to Chemay and Casa Tortuga🌿

@rizeyoutharts extends our deepest gratitude to @chemaymorales for her beautiful stewardship and partnership with our Roots of Solidarity Camp, and for welcoming us onto the sacred land at Casa Tortuga.

Being surrounded by the mountains of Añasco, Puerto Rico. created the entire spirit and energy of our experience. The land invited us to slow down, breathe deeply, listen, reflect, and reconnect—with nature, our culture, our ancestors, one another, and ourselves.

So many beautiful and transformative moments unfolded during our 10-day residency. There was laughter, healing, storytelling, creativity, learning, community-building, and a deeper understanding of what it means to care for the land and allow the land to care for us.

These photos were shared by our campers and staff, each capturing a piece of the beauty, peace, and joy we experienced together. Thank you, Chemay, for preparing the space with such love and intention and for helping create an experience our young people will carry with them for years to come.

Casa Tortuga will always hold a special place in the story of Roots of Solidarity. We hope to return very soon. 🇵🇷🌱🫶🏽
