Hosted by Kathryn Serrano and Jason Hortillas, Future Ancestors is a multimedia platform and podcast exploring the Filipino American experience through the voices of those who live it. Through storytelling, conversation, and cultural reflection, they preserve the wisdom of the past while leaving a blueprint for the next generation, honoring our past, celebrating our present, and inspiring a more rooted, connected, and liberated future.

Their guests have included historians and educators like Dr. Leni Mendoza Strobel, Dr. Michael Salgorolo, Dr. Kevin Nadal, and Tony DelaRosa; music innovators like Joe Bataan and Rob "Southstar" Campman; and pioneers in entertainment and sports like Eugene Cordero, Kay Sibal, and Tahnai Annis.

Their community involvement extends beyond the studio, including helping launch the first Central Jersey chapter of the @filschoolnynj partnering with @project_barkada on Filipino American History Month events, and spotlighting Filipino pride at @nyknicks and @yankees heritage nights and NY's Philippine Independence Parade. 🇵🇭

FAHM has our calendar packed, so we couldn't make it out to New York Comic Con this year. Luckily our friend @bobbyflowells was already there, so we asked if he'd ask a few of our questions to some Filipino creators.

He caught up with @thejetlab and here's what he had to say, stick around for the Filipino artists he shouted out 🇵🇭✨

Next year, we're coming through ourselves to tell more of these stories. @newyorkcomiccon save us a seat 😉

Thank you again Bobby! Be sure to follow his other account @flowellsvintage for all things comics.

Rex in effect! 🐹📫🤣

Don’t sleep on PDX solidarity. Filipinos live by the collective and that’s evident when we spoke to Comedy Icon Rex Navarrete when he visited New Jersey. ✊🏽

Musician Talilo featured a cameo of Rex on his video for “Umaga” with Nump and we had to ask about it. 🎶📦🤪

Hear more about Rex and what he thinks about his status as a pioneer as a Filipino comedian and more in this interview with Future Ancestors. 🗣️

Check out the audio version with Rex Navarrete where you find your podcasts now! Best way to find us is logging on to www.futureancestors.tv!

Big shout out to The Studio Ligaya, Mari Mallari and Rex for allowing us to have this conversation! @thestudioligaya @mariteslol.co

They say people never forget how you make them feel. ☕️

Early on, @robert.sonza15 sold a bag of his Philippine coffee to a customer in New York. For that customer, it was more than coffee. It was a taste of home, and it turned into a moment neither of them will forget.

It's a reminder that what Robert roasts carries memories, family and the flavors of where we come from. Every cup is a way of preserving that, and passing it on.

And it's something we can all do, through the food we cook, the stories we tell and the traditions we keep alive.

Here's a clip of why he roasts ✨

Taste it for yourself! Catch Robert at the Hamilton Park Farmers Market in Jersey City, NJ every Wednesday.

Before kapeng barako was in our lola's kitchen, Philippine coffee had a golden age. ☕🇵🇭

Swipe through the history of Philippine coffee: how it took root in Lipa, Batangas, how the world turned to us when coffee rust hit, and how farmers, roasters and new voices are bringing it back today.

🎧 Hear the full story with @robert.sonza15 of @himigcoffeeroasters Link in bio.

📌 Save this and share it with someone who loves their kape.

If you can’t find it, create it. That’s exactly what @robert.sonza15 did. ☕

He tasted coffee from Brazil, Colombia and Bali, but never from the Philippines. After nine years as a barista, he went looking for Philippine coffee and couldn’t find it at the Filipino coffee shops near him in New Jersey. So he ordered a bag from a place in LA, took one sip, and knew there was more flavor waiting to be brought out. Roasting classes, a small roaster at home, months of experimenting, and that’s when @himigcoffeeroasters was born.

This Filipino American History Month, we’re sharing Robert’s story and the history of Philippine coffee, from kapeng barako to keeping Filipino coffee alive.
