#ThrowbackThursday to one of my proudest moments this year: the Kidemia STEAM Awards 2026.

Brilliance is for everyone. Any child can be celebrated. When we started Kidemia, we wanted more than another learning app.

We (Shehu Zubairu BSC, MBA, PMP® SHRM-SCP® and I) wanted to change how excellence is recognised in Nigerian education, starting early, making learning measurable for schools, teachers and parents, and ensuring that access to digital learning isnt reserved for children in elite schools.

That’s why our partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Education and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) means so much to us. Through it, children in public schools took part alongside their peers in private schools, using digital assessments and future-skills programmes many of them had never had access to before.

At the Awards, we celebrated young learners for academic excellence, creativity and future-ready skills, and we announced the winners of the Kidemia Common Entrance Scholarship Awards. Seeing children from every kind of school take part reminded me exactly why this work matters.

I’m grateful to The Guardian Nigeria angel, @ijeomaodia for featuring the event, and to Mr. Akin Morakinyo, Registrar/CEO of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), for his encouraging words about celebrating excellence early.

As AI and digital transformation reshape education, technology must help us discover talent wherever it is, not just where it’s always been looked for.
