When I first posted this video a year ago, it went viral, and some people thought I staged it!

Have I ever come across as a person who has the time or patience to paint a poodle, donate it, hope it gets on a shelf, then stalk the store?

ANYHOW, this was a great thrift find, and my daughter was so excited to see the green poodle underneath - and those orange ears were such a surprise!

And we’re off!

Well…we’ve been on the road since Friday and making our way to Ontario first to visit @mrkitchenmagpie family.

Then we’re heading to Europe by boat!

You can expect a lot of variety on my page. A mix of thrifting, travels, and of course delicious recipes.

We spent the weekend at the #connectcookcreate2026 Canadian food bloggers retreat hosted by @wckitchengarden this weekend and highlights included:

⭐️a visit to @redthreadspice saffron farm where we picked saffron, a first for everyone (on that note, @theendlessmeal seriously has the most contagiously joyful smile)

⭐️watching @mrkitchenmagpie teach 15 other women with brains that work just like mine - with absolute patience and no one believes me that he’s not that perfect at home 😂

⭐️meeting someone else with a broccoli allergy! 🥦 such an odd allergy

⭐️meeting so many new people that are the only ones who truly understand what I do for a living

⭐️food and more food. And BC ciders. And BC wines with lunch @graymonkwinery

⭐️making some new Alberta friends! @windingcreek_ranch @freezer_meals_101

I wish I had taken more videos and photos but it was a very hard working retreat by accident; I’ve never learned so much or worked on so much but everyone melded into one big hive mind and we just RAN with it.

I’m going to need a couple days to recover, but it was soooo worth it! by @thekitchenmagpie

Our whole family mailed in our NO to the 9, and chose option 1 to stay in Alberta.

After, of course, they screwed up everybody’s except for Mike - and he got ONE BALLOT in the envelope 🙄 We were lucky enough that they sent the correct ones in time to mail before the deadline.

I’m not going to sit here and argue politics. This referendum is a colossal waste of money and time, but your vote still counts to send a message so the UCP can finally shut up and start fixing actual problems in the province.

(And if you didn’t know that I am a “blue haired Liberal” 💀 and absolutely tired of everyone’s BS, then you haven’t been around here long 🤣)

Smoked sausage belongs in chili, and this is your sign to try it! 😋

Dun Rite Stock and Stables @dunritess here in Alberta kindly gave me some smoked sausage to try, and I put it to good use in this chili! I love supporting local businesses, especially when the result is a delicious pot of dinner.

The sausage adds so much smoky flavour, and there are plenty of vegetables tucked in here too, so dinner is looking pretty good!

Top your bowl with cheese, sour cream and green onions, and you are set!

We decided that our standard poodles, Fern and badger, can introduce the 2026 Halloween tree! 🎃🖤

we started putting up a Halloween tree last year, and we love it! It is the perfect way to display a whole bunch of my vintage Halloween collection, and this year we put the vintage Halloween candelabra on the tree which I am in love with!

🍐 Apples and pumpkins get all the attention this time of year, but let’s give pears a turn!

These Dutch pear pie bars have a buttery brown sugar oat crust, a spiced pear filling, and a crumble topping. The best part? The crust and topping use the same mixture, so there’s no pie dough to roll out!

Add a drizzle of salted caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and you’ve got a lovely little dessert to go with your afternoon coffee. ☕️

These two dorks may be wild and crazy when they play together, but man they are smart and will do anything for dried liver treats 🤣

Fern (bigger brown poodle) was of course better behaved than Badger. She is sooo treat driven at just over a year old.

What is it about mushrooms and why am I obsessed with them? 🍄

This Hungarian mushroom soup is loaded up with mushroom ravioli for a complete dinner in a bowl.

Ingredients:

▢ ¼ cup butter
▢ 2 cups yellow onion, diced
▢ 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, washed and sliced (400-450 grams)
▢ 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
▢ 3 cups chicken broth, or vegetable broth
▢ 2 tablespoons soy sauce
▢ 3 teaspoons paprika
▢ 1 tablespoon dill weed, dried
▢ mushroom ravioli, fresh or frozen
▢ 1½ cups whole milk
▢ ½ cup sour cream
▢ 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped finely
▢ ground black pepper , to taste

Every time I make my sloppy Joe’s recipe, my family thinks I’m insane because I refuse to make it into a “sandwich” and instead I only put the mixture on one piece of bun and then cheese on top and eat it with a knife and fork.

Listen , I think that the ratio of meat mixture to bun is perfect when there’s only one bun involved. I feel very strongly about this.😂
