No easy way to share this, but on Friday, I lost a dear friend, James Barker. The death was sudden, and it’s one of those losses that I’m not entirely sure when it’ll hit.

I first met James back in 2011 when we both worked our first professional production jobs after college. James started out as the front desk receptionist at our insanely cramped startup reality TV company off 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Fast-forward a decade and a half later, and James worked his way all the way up to become the Executive Producer on Love Island, one of the most popular TV shows in the world (which I’m sure most of you already know).

I was always in awe of how hard James worked and the passion he put into his career. An ascent like his isn’t easy, but he did it, and somehow I wasn’t surprised. His success was so well deserved.

On top of that, my relationship with James was incredibly special. I always felt so comfortable confiding in him, and he felt the same. We had a mutual respect and adoration for each other that I’ll miss so goddamn much.

James’ relationship with music was also wonderful to be a part of. I gravitate toward people with passion for anything, and James’ passion for music, and for making people feel good, was infectious.

One of my favorite memories of James was meeting him and his partner, Adam, at the Portola Music Festival in 2023. We found our way to the James Blake after-hours DJ set and proceeded to get pretty saucy. As we stumbled out of the venue, for whatever reason, both of us broke into singing the Elephant Love Medley from Moulin Rouge, and it’s putting a smile on my face as I write this. It was a moment that encapsulated our love for each other in a way I can’t explain. We gave each other a massive hug and went on with our lives.

James was truly the best. Dude always had such a big smile. When I needed someone to talk to, he was always there. Even though we haven’t lived in the same city for quite a while now, I still always felt close to him.

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed something, many brides wish they had the opportunity to be photographed in their dress outside of the wedding day.

The pace of a wedding is different. It moves quickly. It’s emotional, unpredictable. And while that has its own beauty, it doesn’t always allow for a more intentional, artful study of the person wearing the dress.

A dedicated studio session changes that.

For this shoot, we brought together an incredible team to create that space for Payton, photographing her in two different dresses, with the time and attention to truly explore the portrait.

And for the first time in the studio, we documented the process on film with Marissa Cooper

What we created together is a collection of timeless, fine-art portraits - and this is a small look into how it came together.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Dudes on Film | 50 screening of “Ace In The Hole” (1951) at the Presidio Theatre last night!

As we thrust forward into a future full of AI generated slop, it was a real treat to celebrate one of human’s best art-forms… together… in person. Cinema forever!

Today is my Mother’s 65th birthday! The woman who taught me how to understand and trust my emotions. She’s taught me how to be kind, passionate and empathetic. Love you Mom!

While I don’t think 2024 was a particularly spectacular year for new music, I still found myself interacting and loving this art-form just as much as ever!

From hosting my first ever radio show (h/t @bffdotfm @lindoselects ), to countless concerts (Feist -unreal-, Confidence Man at the Indy -what energy-, Rx Bandits playing “The Resignation”, and even a friend of mine playing with White Denim!) and adding to my ever-growing vinyl collection.

The music wouldn’t be the same without all of you as well, and I’m forever grateful to have made all these wonderful memories to look back on.

Rang in 36 by checking out @whitedenimmusic for somewhere around the 36th time! That much cooler to see my buddy @zephyravalon_ shred it on bass with the boys!

Albeit a bit of a crappy week mentally, and a tricky year for my physical health, I still had a blast and I’m thankful for everyone who has had an impact on my life! Y’all know who you are.

So good to see friends and family down in LA as well as my crew in SF that come out for election night! 2024 was was a bit of a weird one in many ways (and I’m especially missing those that moved away in the past year) but I’m looking forward to good times in 2025!
