Giving her purpose 🥰 🐓 she’s been on the nest for 2 weeks, stopped laying eggs and her comb went pale. It was time for me to intervene but instead of quarantining her off the nest, I gave her 10 baby chicks 🥰

3hrs of chores in 3min, 6-9am @thelbard 🐴 🐕 🐓 🐦 prepping for a snow storm & a quick weekly run to the landfill because we do not have trash service and to buy pellets for the stove.

By the first hour, I worked up a sweat in 29 degrees 😅 so this is why I don’t go to the gym 💁🏻‍♀️

Aspen branch to curtain rod 🪵 🪟
🐮 Old cattle chute to interior window sills & shelves

I started focusing on how to incorporate more pieces from our historical ranch to the inside of our home.

🪟 We’ve used a very old cattle chute board for open shelving and window sills

🪵 Then I had the idea to use the gorgeous aspen branches as curtain rods. Collecting them was easy and fun , installing was also a breeze! They’re so lightweight 🪵

What do you think?

Jan 2025: CA to CO 📦 ☀️ 🏔️

After 14yrs in Southern California, I packed up my life & moved my family to a small equestrian mountain town in Colorado, coincidentally just 75 miles from where I was born.

❤️‍🩹 We said “see you later” to a neighborhood that we loved and a horse community that we cherished. Our dreams of bigger mountains, cooler weather, more horses, sunshine and rivers took us to a small town that we discovered in 2022 called Westcliffe.

Westcliffe is a little bigger than the rural Ohio town that I grew up. It’s wild to come back to rural living, however, I’ve always done what makes me happy, never wanting to live with regret. I’m still adjusting to it all but looking forward to the journey of living on and with the land around us and our animals. 🏡

🏔️ We are now only minutes to the Arkansas River where fly fishing is plentiful and the outdoors are breathtaking all around. Our ranch sits at the base of the Sangre De Cristo Mountain range, the home to 10 of Colorado’s 58 14,000ft peaks. 🏔️

Life is meant to be lived, it’s too short to wonder what if.

I designed & assembled this garden in Jan 2020... 👩🏻‍🌾 just before the demand for greenhouses, seeds, & garden beds would skyrocket!

For the perimeter - We used wood from a failed Live Oak, trellis, and a little fence we had from puppy days.

The garden sits on a 40-50yr old concrete slab that was apparently a dance floor for a musician that lived here 😅. We were going to rip it out when we bought the home & so glad we kept it for gopher defense!

This garden kept me mentally & physically occupied last year, I took notes of what to change this spring... some of it worked & some of it didn’t. I’m okay with that. 💚 🌱 taken in Santa Monica Mountains by @thelbard

👗 Line drying is on the horizon, save this #sgctip for an easy & economical DIY! Mine is beautifully displayed in reused tequila & gin bottles. I purchased a bottle of vegetable glycerin 2 years ago and am just now running low. ☀️ Refill your white vinegar @prostainable

My fav E.O. blends are: lavender + eucalyptus or ylang ylang + Cedarwood or sweet orange + peppermint

Plus, the smell of mainstream laundry detergents make me nauseous!

🙌🏼My neighbor is going to teach me to patch stonework!

This beautiful stone wall wraps two terraces off of our living room & kitchen. It’s one of my favorite things about our outdoor space.

Over time, the ground shifts & tree roots making room to grow, cracks and lose stones appear! I have no idea how to repair small patches and I cannot wait to learn! 💚
