Library Music: Volume Two

A second run through some of our rarities, compilation tracks and collaborations, lovingly assembled with the help of @wiaiwya and released today on 2xLP/DL. It was really fun putting this one together and we think it works nicely as an album in its own right.

As Trev from @godisinthetvzine says in their 8/10 review,

“If Volume One mapped The Leaf Library through their margins, Volume Two shows that they live just as contentedly in those margins. Given enough time, these diversions, commissions and abandoned pathways begin connecting themselves into another peculiar, coherent world... the materials keep changing - strings, drum machines, field recordings, synths - while something in the way the band assembles them is instantly identifiable.”

A massive thanks to John WIAIWYA for executive producing (and releasing) it, Antony @redredpaw for mastering it and @freda_d.souza, @thenamelessbook, Mike @firestationsband, Rob @_black_peaches_, @jonfuse, @alison__cotton, @dim0rphodons, Francesca Prattico and Hannah Reeves for playing on the tracks included. Thanks also to the other labels/people that originally released/commissioned some of these: @castlesinspace, @_handstitched, @kristiandaygallery, @hello_goodbye_show, @frenchbloke_darkoutside, @sox_music_producer

Thanks to everyone that has bought/listened/written about it so far. There’s a link to buy it in our profile, and it’s in most good record shops (if you get it from a shop and want a download just get in touch with us here). There will hopefully be one more archival release early next year, and then we’ll be off to try and write some new songs.

Hello, us again. Hot on the heels of our fourth studio album earlier this year, we’re pleased to announce ʟɪʙʀᴀʀʏ ᴍᴜꜱɪᴄ: ᴠᴏʟᴜᴍᴇ ᴛᴡᴏ - the next instalment in our series collecting rarities, singles and compilation tracks. Featuring 13 tracks (6 on a physical format for the first time ever), it includes music from as far back as 2007, right up to the EP tracks we put out on Castles In Space in 2024, via releases on @wiaiwya, @_handstitched, Biblio Tapes and more. You can pre-order it from Friday this week with the full release out 25 September on 2xLP and download via @wiaiwya.

Album artwork is by the excellent Markus Schäfer (@indianovemberkilo). See you on Bandcamp and Subvert on Friday. Live dates to follow in autumn.

Our friends @firestationsband have a new album out - International Dust, on @lostmaprecords. It’s great!

Mike from the band has been in the TLL live group for a while now, on co-lead guitar, naturally.

They’re off on your later this month - dates on their page.

☆☆☆☆ - Shindig!

“More than a companion piece to the group’s studio albums, Library Music: Volume Two serves as a persuasive summary of The Leaf Library’s distinctive aesthetic.”

Massive thanks to @shindig_magazine and Clive Webb for the lovely review of Library Music: Volume Two - the magazine (and the record) is in shops now. by @theleaflibrary

Every release from @theleaflibrary feels like an exploration of pop music’s possibilities, and each one seems to bring us closer to the realisation that those possibilities are endless. The archival nature of Library Music is the perfect way of experiencing the range of The Leaf Library’s work and the sonic versatility they command.
The disparate nature of these tracks is part of their appeal: “Versatile Clouds” runs 22 minutes, with strings and hints of early-2000s folktronica. “The Long Dead King” sounds like a disco in a burial mound 🪦 while album closer, “Tired Ghost in Orbit”, is a retooled older song turned into a nine-minute space jam
Out now on @wiaiwya. Thomas ends on the hope that “Volume Two” isn’t the final instalment. Read the full review at klofmag.com, link in bio.

Thank you Bristol! Great to finally get there - thanks to Miles @gravytrainbristol for putting us on and @thelanesbristol for putting us up. And thanks of course to everyone that came out to see us - good to see some friends old and new. Here are some photos of us, @papercloudsmusic, us dicking about at bowling with Paper Clouds, us dicking about and then finally us feeling sorry for ourselves the next morning.

Next gig is 29/11 at the Lexington in London. Mike’s band @firestationsband are back at the Lanes on 03/11 as part of their autumn album launch tour - look them up, you won’t be sorry for long.

I think I discovered The Leaf Library during Covid, although they have been around longer than that, so I was off radar for a time. Electronic indie pop with hints of Stereolab at times. They've just released Volume 2 of a compilation of their tracks which you won't find on Spotify, so head over to Bandcamp if you want to check them out. @theleaflibrary

They're also pretty good live, though don't seem to play too often. Thiis was a one gig so we were lucky.

Pics and a couple of vids.
