POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Sharing a quick preview of my upcoming essay for @livecultures.art “The Listening of Art”, adapted from my lecture for @nightschoolsocial.

The essay meditates on how we can reclaim attention to create more inclusive and communal spaces to listen to/be in conversation with art and one another.

TURN THE TV OFF. An urgent close reading of Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show.

Pinning to the feed because the response has been mad (ty to all the friends in the DMs who read and shared!🫶🏽). You can read on my Substack, Live Cultures.

Also sharing some of my favorite shots and details. Look again and look closely. What do you see?

To @charmladonna @mikecarson @tribeincdesign the stagecraft was unmatched. Without words it spoke volumes. by @thelifeofxi

Little Caribbean FOREVER 🇬🇾🫶🏽 Grateful the roots that my granny dug and laid here; Roots strong enough to hold my mum and her brothers, then eventually me and my brother and our cousins and now our nieces and nephews.

Not goodbye because I’ll be right back for my 2 dollar doubles!

BIG LOVE
1: the OG Inez Fraser in her favorite place
2: brother at the block party
3: aunt and uncle on the stoop
4: gathering at granny’s (our last with her 🕊️)
5-8: the neighborhood as god intended it
9: TERRENCE the GT Juice King
10: lunch + swing set
11-14: magical scenes from the south (and best side) of the Park ifykyk
15: love thy neighbors
16: @anythingbklyn daily HH rip legend
17: pretty sure it wasn’t even halloween
18: discovering my neighbors fig tree!! (she let me cut some leaves to make a cake and fig leaf oil)
19-20: a beginning and a very beautiful ending by @thelifeofxi

Said goodbye to the first home that I truly got to call my very own. Never fulfilled my pinterest board vision but nonetheless it felt so complete in the joyful corners and memories made here.

Cheers to the neighbors, family and friends that made this space home 🫶🏽 I’ll miss you, 5E. by @thelifeofxi

Field Trip 009 was the best yet! @livecultures.art joined forces with our friends at @artnoirco to attend a preview performance of Practice by @naznaznazznaznaznazz directed by @keenan_tyler_oliphant.

The play follows a company of actors and their power drunk director, Asa, as they intensively prepare for a performance and tour. It’s culty, it’s messy, it’s jaw dropping, IT IS A MUST SEE!!

Thank you to the team at Playwrights Horizons for making space for all 28 of us! And thank you to @larryosseimensah for being the best partner in crime! taken in Playwrights Horizons by @thelifeofxi

@tari_analog is not afraid to demand more from her readers—she knows her craft merits it.

In the latest installment of SUPPLEMENTS for @livecultures.art, Tarisai and I discussed the labor of love behind her debut novel The Ones We Loved and how her voice—emboldened by ancestral and artistic lineage—is broadening the aperture of diasporic literature.
