COMING SOON

🦞Philip Colbert: The Lost Gardens of Lobsteropolis🦞

Join internationally acclaimed hyper-pop artist Philip Colbert in his Lightbox Gallery takeover!

Often referred to as the ‘godson of Andy Warhol’, Colbert continues the legacy of pop-art at Lightbox Gallery, bringing a fresh perspective through his cartoon lobster persona. His bold and playful work explores the patterns of contemporary digital culture and its relationship to a deeper art historical dialogue.

Inspired by Woking's literary heritage, Colbert's lobster invasion draws on H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, transforming the Gallery & Museum - and beyond - through an immersive multimedia experience.

Lightbox Director, Sarah Brown says “Philip’s hyper-pop, surrealist history paintings, and larger-than-life lobster alter ego make complex ideas accessible, playful, and importantly fun as he invites us on a journey through history and art. It is wonderful to show his work at Lightbox and to invite audiences into his surreal world.”

This monumental new exhibition promises a joyful visual spectacle. Immerse yourself this summer in Philip Colbert’s world of pop culture, technology and art history as Lobsteropolis comes to life at Lightbox Gallery & Museum.

⏰Opens 25 July

Fran McCaskill
Fran trained as a graphic designer and has over 20 years commercial design experience. Her real passion for design in any media translates directly into her work, experimenting with wire, wood, metal and glass to create her original hand-crafted designs.

Martin Stephenson
Martin lives on the edge of Exmoor in his native North Devon with his work inspired by the themes and forms of nature, the art and architecture of Dali and Gaudi and the Arts and Crafts movement. The timber is sourced either from storm-felled local trees or from suppliers who are registered on the RPP scheme, an internationally recognised environmental due diligence system.

Monica Palmer
Surrey artist Monica Palmer has a small workshop at home where she designs and creates jewellery, mostly in sterling silver. She enjoys working in a geometric style and using various fold-forming and casting techniques.

🌊Khadija Cecile Niang: There are people who belong to the sea🌊
10 October - 3 January 2027

A new exhibition of works by Khadija Cecile Niang alongside selection from The Ingram Collection.

Khadija Cecile Niang presents a new body of work exploring the sea as a space where labour and leisure coexist. Drawing from a visit to N'Gor Island in Senegal, where she witnessed surfers and fishermen sharing fishing boats to reach the waves, Niang is curious about how coastal communities’ relationship to the sea shapes their understanding of work, time, and rest.

Alongside these new works, Niang has selected works from The Ingram Collection, engaging with the history of painting the sea in Britain and interrogating how a life shaped by the sea might, in turn, shape one's relationship to the world.

📍Lightbox Gallery & Museum, Woking, Surrey.

ART INTERVIEW | 2026

Opening tomorrow @thelightboxwoking is THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO BELONG TO THE SEA from Ingram Prize winning artist @khadijacecileart. We asked Khadija to take us through the inspiration behind this new, solo exhibition:

As I've been making this work, I realized that actually, in a way, it's a continuation of my degree show at the Slade. I started thinking about this dynamic between labour and leisure when I was in Senegal. A lot of the local surfers come from a fishing families and having the same heritage, I was curious if that’s what subconsciously brought to surfing, but I wondered whether there comes a shift in how you relate to the sea when it’s been your livelihood compared to for me I usually approach it as a place to relax and play.

I wanted to unpack these ideas a bit more because I didn't have time at the Slade to pull at that thread. I took having this show as have an opportunity to speak to people and see how those conversations can influence my work.

Full interview on our website.
