There are places you visit, and there are places that become part of you. For me, Oaxaca is the second kind.

I wear it - literally, my huaraches are Oaxacan, my closet is full of hand woven pieces I've carried home from there. I cook with what I learned there. I think about the women who taught me, the weavers whose hands never stop moving, the smell of a market at 8am, more than I probably should.

There's a rhythm to that place… slower, more joyful, more alive. It’s what brings me back, again and again, and now, bringing others with me.

This February, I get to share it. Seven days, a small group of women, real food and real people… artisans who've spent lifetimes perfecting a craft, home cooks who taught me more in an afternoon than I've learned in ages, a culture that doesn't rush anything. It's the kind of trip that changes how you see a place, and maybe yourself too. Join us!

PRIVATE TANGIER

I’ve been dreaming about this one for a while.
Next April, I’m taking just seven guests to Tangier, Morocco, for five extraordinary nights immersed in the city’s world of design, gardens, artisans and culture.

We’ll stay at the exquisite Villa Mabrouka, the former home of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, now beautifully restored by Jasper Conran.

But what makes this journey truly special is what happens behind closed doors.
Over four full days, we’ll be welcomed into remarkable private homes and gardens belonging to some of the designers, collectors and creative characters who call Tangier home.

We’ll share meals in beautiful settings, meet talented artisans, wander the old medina and seek out the places and objects that have inspired these extraordinary interiors.

This isn’t a traditional tour. It’s an intimate glimpse into a Tangier most travelers never get to experience.

February might be my very favorite time to visit Oaxaca ☀️

Warm, sunny days. Evenings cool enough for a light layer. No holiday crowds, so the city goes back to belonging to the people who live there.

And while everyone at home is bundled up, we’ll be at Monte Albán as the morning light settles in, at a family’s table for a home-cooked lunch, and wandering streets of brightly painted walls.

Walking into a riad for the first time is one of my favorite design moments anywhere in the world.

From the street, you'd never guess what's behind the door. Then it opens onto a courtyard, light drops in from above, and every detail, from the carved woodwork to the intricate tile underfoot, feels made by hand, because it was.

After years of designing interiors, these are the five things I notice first, plus one bonus, and how to bring a little of each one home. 🤍

If we haven’t met yet, hi, I’m Jonna 🤍

I’m an interior designer, and I spent years living abroad and coming home with rugs, textiles, ceramics, and the stories of the people who made them. Those stories shaped how I design homes, and eventually, how I design trips.

The Loaded Trunk is small-group travel for curious women. I plan every detail myself: the makers we meet, the tables we sit at, the places we stay. No tour buses, no crowds, and access you wouldn’t find on your own.

I’m packing for two weeks in Romania and I’m trying to pack light (so I have more room to “load the trunk” on the way back, of course!)⁣
⁣
I’ve gotten better at packing over the years, and it mostly comes down to picking a palette and sticking to it. This trip it’s navy, caramel, and ivory: two button-down shirts, three cashmere sweaters, jeans, cords, a dark denim skirt, a wool coat, a rain jacket, and my alpaca poncho from Bolivia. Scarves and wraps do the rest.⁣
⁣
There’s room for one more sweater, and I can’t decide.⁣
⁣
I knit the gray one with the blue houses for a trip to Amsterdam, where this trip begins. It’s only two days there, which makes it completely impractical, but wearing it along the canals sounds like so much fun. The alternatives are another one of my hand knits or a colorful fair isle that’s more sensible.⁣

I have a short list of shops in Paris I go back to every single time, and I always love discovering others new to me. A few favorites from this recent trip.

@frenchtrotters for the slacks I’ll live in.

@hannoh_paris when I want something nobody else will have. @trudon for a candle to carry home because it makes my suitcase smell like Paris for a week.

One delightful surprise was a hand-painted blue and white inkpot from the 18th century that I found at @axs_design. It’s very special, and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. Then I stepped into Astier de Villatte, that charming ceramics shop on the Left Bank, and spotted a dramatic paper flower arrangement by @thegreenvase in New York. Voila! One shop in Paris sending me to a studio in New York to finish a thought.

We’re releasing our first two trips of 2027, and we can’t stop thinking about either one.

OAXACA — February 1-7 Mole, mezcal, master weavers, and a 2,500 year old city in the clouds.

MOROCCO — March 1-11 Marrakech, the Agafay desert, Atlantic Coast and foothills of the Atlas Mountains

Having recently returned from Indian Market in Santa Fe, and I’ve been reaching for my Native American jewelry more than usual. Mixing artisan finds from across the globe is one of my favorite things about getting dressed. I call it “wearing the world.”⁣
⁣
The vintage concho belt from @shiprocksantafe is a favorite, unusual for its beading. I picked up the vintage turquoise cuff at @tennesseeturquoiseco in adorable Leiper’s Fork, TN. Tiny shop, fab collection, owned by musician Chris Stapleton’s wife, Morgane, who’s a serious collector. The Zuni ring is vintage from @santafeantiques, and I’m pretty sure the turquoise and coral necklace is from @rocki_gorman in Santa Fe.⁣
⁣
The skirt was handwoven and block-printed in India by @injiri, and the huaraches were made in Oaxaca.⁣
⁣
I’m standing on a vintage Persian rug (one of many from our collection… sorry not sorry @richrobison), and if you look closely you can spot our rescue cat, Texas Roadhouse, mid-photobomb.⁣

Starting a new series here! Where in the world is Jonna? I’ll leave a few hints, you tell me where.

Bistros where the wood paneling hasn’t changed in sixty years. Haussmann facades and wrought iron balconies. Oysters served exactly one way. Gothic vaulted ceilings that hush you the moment you walk in. Gardens that look like they were plucked from a tapestry. Streets where every corner is a moment.
