Here’s the trailer of our innovative performance of subversive joy by a collective of actors and musicians (from @theloafingheroes ) of the revolutionary novel, Finnegans Wake, by Irish author James Joyce.
This extraordinary book is perhaps literature’s most daunting and linguistically complex artefact. It is the ‘book of the dark’, a ‘river-romance’, a ‘meandertale’, and ‘verbivocovisual sounddance’, where the Word and the Void in human existence intertwine as ‘Woid’ in a language of the Chaosmos.

Finnegans Wake, do escritor-alquimista irlandês James Joyce, é talvez o mais assustador e linguisticamente complexo artefacto da literatura, uma experiência profundamente materialista e mística: trata-se do “livro das trevas”, um “romance-rio”, e uma
“verbivocovisual sounddance”, onde a Palavra e o Vazio na existência humana se entrelaçam como o “Woid” numa linguagem do Caosmos. Pela primeira vez em Portugal, experienciaremos uma performance lúdica deste livro mágico e extraordinário, liderada e
dirigida por Bartholomew Ryan, e com a participação dos atores Amanda Booth e Mick Greer, e dos músicos Giulia Gallina, Ruben Leonardi e Robin Timmis.

The Loafing Heroes é uma banda internacional de dream-folk, baseada em Lisboa.
A ação de ‘Loafing’, ou o ser errante, vagabundo, ou um flâneur, pode ser considerada um dos últimos atos de alegria subversiva numa era de aceleração e amnésia. A banda lançou seis álbuns. O mais recente chama-se ‘meandertales’, que foi gravado pelo quarteto de Bartholomew Ryan (voz, guitarra), Giulia Gallina (voz, piano, autoharpa, concertina), Judith Retzlik (violino, trompete) e Jaime McGill (clarinete baixo).
Este será um concerto raro e especial no BOTA em Lisboa, com Bartholomew, Giulia e Judith, e com a presença de um convidado especial, Gulami Yesildal no instrumento de corda Balgama Saz e na percussão Darbuka.

The Loafing Heroes are a morphing, international dream-folk band based in Lisbon. Loafing, as slow wandering, daydrifting, or being a flaneur, may be one of the last acts of subversive joy in an age of acceleration and amnesia. The band have released six albums. Their most recent is called ‘meandertales’, which was recorded by the quartet of Bartholomew Ryan (vocals, guitars), Giulia Gallina (vocals, piano, autoharp, concertina), Judith Retzlik (violin, trumpet), and Jaime McGill (bass clarinet). Personnel for this special concert at BOTA are Bartholomew, Giulia and Judith, and with special guest Gulami Yesildal on Balgama Saz string instrument and Darbuka percussion.
