What a successful weekend in East St. Louis! 🐾 Through an incredible partnership with Banfield Gives Back, Mizzou Veterinary Students, and Gateway Pet Guardians, we provided free preventive care to local pets and their families. Together, we vaccinated more than 100 dogs against rabies and distemper and helped keep them safe with microchips. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, supported, and trusted us with the care of their pets. Had a great time at Ladue’s District-Wide STEAM Fest! 🧪🐾 Through the Banfield Gives Back Program, I shared veterinary medicine with students from Pre-K through 12th grade, such a fun and rewarding experience! Grateful to Dr. Brown, my former middle school computer science teacher, for the opportunity ! There are moments that remind me why I work so hard. On Monday, Jetson came in for a routine dental cleaning. His physical exam was unremarkable, and there was nothing in his history to suggest he wouldn’t be a good candidate for anesthesia. However, during the post-procedure period, Jetson developed a serious drug reaction. He became nonresponsive, with severe muscle tremors and stiffness. My team alerted me, and we immediately began working to stabilize him. I contacted his owners and asked them to come to the hospital, knowing only time would tell if he would pull through. After four hours of intensive intervention, Jetson began to turn a corner. We were able to stabilize him, and he went home the same day. Yesterday, Jetson returned for a recheck. We are currently waiting to see if genetic testing will provide insight into why his reaction was so severe. In the meantime, Jetson was very happy to see us and made sure we paid his belly rub and treat tax. I am grateful every day to God for the calling to be a veterinarian. Some days are good, and others are challenging, but there is never a day I regret being part of this profession. Thank you to Jetson’s owners for trusting me with their baby and for allowing me to share his story. Yesterday was Match Day. The day when students and doctors who’ve spent countless hours gathering recommendations, transcripts, writing essays, sending emails, visiting schools and hospitals, scheduling and sitting for interviews finally find out where they’ve matched. I remember the morning of match day clearly. I was on Small Animal Surgery Rotation. The anticipation of waiting, bittersweet feelings as others matched, the pit in my stomach when I didn’t match to my top choices, and the chaos that followed during the scramble. I was offered the chance to stay at my university , but my mentor encouraged me to explore something and somewhere new. That’s when I found Nashville Veterinary Specialists and Animal Hospital and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. I am forever grateful that I matched to NVS. My internship challenged me, grew me, and made me a better doctor. The long days and nights, the holidays spent working, the intense cases, the laughter and tears, it was all worth it. And while I’m not an internist (yet) 😂 those who know, know, I’ve learned to trust the process. Whether you matched, scrambled, or you’re on your 2nd, 3rd or I’ve lost count internship, keep going. “I couldn’t be a veterinarian, I love animals too much.” A moment ago, someone left their dog in the bathroom at my job with just her bone. A man and his son found her and brought her to the hospital. It’s easy to judge the owner, but the truth is, we don’t know their story. Maybe they fell on hard times. Maybe every shelter was full. Maybe they did what they thought was best. Yesterday, I treated a dog whose new owner rescued him from almost being left at a gas station. The owner was only there to get a soda. The cost of veterinary care, like many things, is rising, and so many families are struggling to afford care for their fur babies. Part of this job is learning compassion. And to the person who may never feel peace, your fur baby was adopted and now has a new home. 🐾💜 This work isn’t just about medicine, it’s about empathy, dignity, and protecting those who cannot speak for themselves. Please contact your local rescue or clinic, consider re-homing or foster care as safe alternatives for releasing your pet. #vetmed#petcare#humananimalbond by @thelocdpetdoc

First NAVC VMX conference and I’m still soaking it all in 🐾💜✨ From informative lectures to reconnecting with familiar faces, this experience has been incredible. Grateful to participate in the blendVET Foundation Youth Pathways program for the second time and its 20th event! The program exposes middle and high school students to the various careers within veterinary medicine. Yesterday, TLPD braved the rain in partnership with God’s Everlasting Covenant of Love Church to make special delivery stops at Gateway180 and St. Cecilia School & Academy. We were honored to donate over 100 brand-new school uniforms to @gateway180stl and various backpacks to the students of @st.ceciliastl .
