If you own, work at, or are a regular at an independent coffee venue that keeps London caffeinated—but hasn’t yet been featured on our website—we want to hear from you.

While coffee quality is central to our selection, we also consider shops that stand out through their service, brunch or lunch menus, baked goods, interior design, events—or a thoughtful mix of these.

We’re always on the lookout for what makes London’s coffee scene so distinctive. If there’s a spot worth knowing about, let us know.

We visited @murasaki_coffee_ , a new café in Southwark, and here’s why it deserves a spot on your list. 💜

Japanese-inspired and thoughtfully considered, Murasaki is the dream of two friends, Ivan and Yee, who came to London from Hong Kong.

The name Murasaki means purple in Japanese, which explains the café’s distinctive colour palette. It also refers to a traditional plant whose roots were once used to produce a rare and precious purple dye. This connection to the flower and its symbolism carries through to the café’s philosophy, captured in its slogan: In time, we bloom.

Everything here feels intentional and cohesive, from the interior and atmosphere to, of course, the coffee.

Murasaki works with two exceptional roasteries, @fluircoffee and @greytonecoffee . We were very happy to see (and taste) both featured across the menu, with house filter, espresso and hand-brew options.

We spent a good hour enjoying our coffees and chatting with the owners, exactly the kind of experience we love most when discovering new cafés. Light, bright and welcoming, Murasaki is the kind of place that invites you to stay a little longer, whether you’re working, reading, catching up with friends or enjoying a great coffee alongside a Japanese-inspired dessert.

A thoughtful new addition to Southwark’s coffee scene, and one well worth discovering. ☕️ taken in London, United Kingdom by @thelondoncoffeeguide

In our latest episode of the London Coffee Podcast, we speak with Joseph Lee, founder of Sontag, about coffee, culture, hospitality and the future of the coffee shop.

Growing up between Australia, Switzerland and London, Joseph brings a wonderfully different perspective to the industry — one that brings together coffee and matcha, speed and craft, technology and human connection.

We talk about why automation doesn’t have to mean less hospitality, why matcha is about much more than just a trend, the challenges of running a coffee business in London, and why Joseph is building Sontag with the long term in mind.

At the heart of it all is a simple idea: creating spaces that make people want to slow down, connect and come back🤍 taken in London, United Kingdom by @thelondoncoffeeguide

@drinkatnola is a coffee shop that I will always happily come back to, even if I have to make the trek from Hertfordshire to Peckham. Definitely one of my South London favourites - I even have the cap (or two) to show it!

Nikol Novotná, Head Roaster at @watchhouse , shares her remarkable journey from Bratislava to London, from accidentally becoming a barista to working in the roastery and becoming a Q Grader.

Kava translates as “coffee” in Ukrainian, and it feels only right that this lovely coffee shop was founded by Ukrainians.
Their first café opened earlier this year in Waterloo Station, bringing specialty coffee to one of London’s busiest train stations — finally, you can get a genuinely decent cup of coffee on the road! ☕️

And now they’ve already expanded to a second site in Marylebone. Warm, welcoming interiors, beans from Scenery Coffee Roasters, and a shiny new Synesso machine — you really can’t go wrong with this setup.
They also have Ukrainian walnut cookies on offer, which are the PERFECT little treat to have with your coffee. We got a box and, well… they didn’t last very long. 😅
There are plans to open a kitchen and bakery downstairs later on, which gives us yet another reason to come back.
Well done, team🇺🇦❤️ Hope to see many more Kavas across London soon! taken in London, United Kingdom by @thelondoncoffeeguide

The ritual of coffee is often reduced to paper cups, plastic lids, and drinking on the go. But there’s something special about sitting down, taking your time, and enjoying a coffee — perhaps two, and a pastry — while becoming part of the space around you.

These six coffee venues are, in their own ways, particularly special places to slow down and spend some time.

Read the full article on our Substack by @leo.coffeebean , and don’t forget to tag us if you visit any of the places from our recommendations. ☕️ taken in London, United Kingdom by @thelondoncoffeeguide
