Bernard is 84 now and has been growing chrysanthemums for 61 years, after being introduced to both dahlias and chrysanthemums and choosing the mums. ‘Dahlias are terrible in the vase,’ he tells me with a wry smile. ‘Mums just keep going.’ 🪻👨🏾‍🌾 See and read more about this year’s Pniel Chrysanthemum Flower Show in our latest online Journal story – ‘Passionate About Mums’. 🌼 Featured in Journal 05 : the Garden. 🪏 Link in bio. In today’s day and age, the purpose of print has shifted, radically. And so has the presence of House and Leisure. Do we exist as a book (or magazine??), a brand, a place, an event…? Truth is, we do it all. We are it all. Because today, experiences are what matter. People need to be celebrated, in the flesh. Good design should be seen, touched and engaged with. A magazine is more than just pretty pictures. by @thelookbook
Spring has sprung, baby! Not sure how many Miranda Priestly lines we’ve used, but here’s another one… ‘Florals. For spring. Groundbreaking.’ 👄 But this time, this season, we’re dropping the sarcasm and really going full BLOOM. 💐 House and Leisure Volume 22 (Flower) is filled with floral – on-the-nose scents, facades tinted in pink hues of bougainvillea and disa, gardens, budding stories, flower people, and well… flowers. She’s our pink petal. She’s our bloom baby. She’s groundbreaking. She’s Volume 22. 🌷 House and Leisure (@houseandleisure) Volume 22 (Flower) will be available from tomorrow at our independent stockists and countrywide retailers, via our website for convenient home delivery, or to download on our free House and Leisure app. 📲 On the cover 📕: Close to the Edge hand-built earthenware vessel by Clementina van der Walt from Clementina Ceramics (@clementinaceramics_studio) – featured in ‘The Vase’ on p34. a LOOKBOOK Studio production (@thelookbook) Art direction & Styling by Storm Ross (@_storm_ross) Photography by Sven Kristian (@svenkristianstudio) Production assistance by Murray King (@murrayscottk_) & Jana Human (@janahuman) Photographic assistance by Luke Chomse (@luckily.lukey) #spring by @thelookbook
