I’m a bit of a rule breaker. If everyone is going right, I want to go left. I’m also hugely resistant to the idea of ‘creating content’ - it feels like another task on my to do list - ugh!!

So, I decided. I’m not building anything that feels like performance or a drag, including this page.

I want popping in here to feel like a pause in my day.

A place to capture fragments of ideas.
Things I’m noticing.
How I see the world.
Conversations that shifted something.
Images that made me pause for a moment.

Sometimes books.
Sometimes architecture.
Sometimes a thought that landed hard.
Sometimes just a glimpse of spaciousness… in the middle of all the noise.

I think we’re all carrying too much input.

Too much urgency.
Too much content.
Too much pressure to constantly react, teach, explain, perform.

And sometimes what we actually need is two minutes to zoom out enough to hear ourselves think.

That’s what I want this space to feel like.

A place to linger for a moment before stepping back into the chaos. by @themarygrant

There’s never been an easier time to write a book and easy is a very low bar.

Not the bar you need to be aiming for if you want to create an authority building asset for your business, worthy of having your name attached.

And that’s not easy, but there is a good place to start and I’ve captured my thinking on that in this tiny book. You will literally read it in 20 minutes while having your morning coffee.

If you want to write an authority building book, this is for you.

From every thing to one thing.

I know people who have written books which they now think of as “ego books”.

Books that dragged every single thought out of their heads. (This is exactly how I felt about my first book.)

It was a book that captured how you saw the world at that moment.
What you were ready to say.
What you were willing to stand behind.

And sometimes… that version of you needed the full 200 pages.

To explore.
To prove.
To say everything.

But sometimes on the other side, when your thinking sharpens… something shifts.

You see where you over-explained.
Where you stepped out of the experience.
Where your signal got diluted.
Where you wrote 30-50,000 words because that’s what you thought you were supposed to do.

That’s not wrong and it’s not the only way.
And from where you are now… you can feel the difference.

Between a book that teaches…
and a book that stays with someone.

Your next book doesn’t need 200 pages.

It needs precision.

One idea that lands hard.
One shift that changes how someone sees.
One thread you can hold from beginning to end without breaking the spell.

Your last book got you here.

Your next one?

That gets to be different.

I was working with a client on the unpacking of her book and something was bugging me. All the value she was packing in was pulling me out of the magic she was creating.

Because the very thing that adds value takes the reader out of the journey you have spent valuable time and genius crafting.

_
A teaching book pulls the reader out of the experience.

It interrupts the moment to explain what something means.
To add context.
To make sure everything is understood.
To give the reader something to do.

And that’s the worst offender.

Because the moment they leave the page, there’s no guarantee they will come back.

_

A transmission book does the opposite.

It keeps the reader inside the experience from beginning to end.

It doesn’t say, “here’s what I know.”

It says, “come and see what I see.”

_

The moment I explain the difference… my authors recognise it instantly.

No debate.
No overthinking.
They reject the teaching version of their book on the spot.

Because once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

A transmission book isn’t about putting everything you know into one place.

It’s about curating a journey that does something to and for the reader.

Something they feel.
Something they recognise.
Something they can’t unsee once they’ve seen it.

It’s one of the reasons I believe in intentionally short books.

Not just because attention spans are shrinking.
But because precision matters.

When you don’t have 200 pages to hide in, you have to decide:

What actually matters here?
What creates the shift?
What keeps the reader inside the experience from beginning to end?

A teaching book explains.
A transmission book changes how someone sees.

And once someone sees something differently…
they don’t go back to who they were before.

There’s a moment where you realise
you’re not stuck.

You’re delaying.

You can see the next level clearly enough now.
You’ve done the work.
You have the thinking.

You’re already being pulled in that direction.

And still…

You’re holding back.

Telling yourself you need a bit more time.
A bit more proof.
A bit more clarity.

But underneath all of that, there’s a quieter thought:

What if the thing you’re avoiding…
is the thing that actually moves everything.

One of the things I take from my 33 years in fashion into my coaching world is a way of seeing how things go together.

I’ve spent years surrounded by endless options… fabrics, shapes, ideas, pieces that ‘could’ all work.

And what I’ve come to trust is the process of curating from all the possibilities. Being willing to put everything else aside.

It takes practice. Because every possibility you keep can add to your bottom line… and at the same time dilute the strength of the collection.

So there’s a moment where you have to hold your nerve.
To trust what you feel in your gut, even when other options still look good.

But when you do… when you really trust it…
letting go of what’s surplus stops feeling like a loss.

It becomes the exact right choice. by @themarygrant

This time last month my plate was full in the best possible way.
I had a launch coming at me like a runaway train. I had clients deep in their books, my designer putting the finishing touches on PORTAL and I had a mastermind in Spain I wasn’t missing, and I had zero intentions of working in the evenings.
.
A previous version of me would have let the launch eat every available hour right up until the night before, and honestly it always does if you let it. You know the truth of that, right?
So I set a constraint that forced me to cut everything that didn’t move the needle — I had to have everything done for my Bo&Mo launch before I got on my flight.....everything ready ten days before launch date, non-negotiable!

Here’s what I know to be true about how work behaves. When you don’t set a hard deadline, the work expands to fill every bit of available space right up until the final hour.

For the last few years, I have been running things a different way and it has eliminated the stress that used to live in my pocket before....I always aim to be ready for everything days before a deadline.

Constraint isn’t the enemy of good work. It’s the thing that makes the work actually happen. It’s the thing that collapses time.

What would you finish this month if the deadline wasn’t negotiable?

I used to think I thrived on pressure.
Now I just design to remove it.

I’ve ditched the “I’m so busy” badge of honour — which, let’s be honest, is just social code for “I’m ready to keel over here.”

These days, I repel busy and stalk shortcuts.

Whenever I hit the start line of a project and realise a shortcut wouldn’t just help me — it could help someone else — I pause.

I build the process first, then use that process to do the thing.

This is one of the ways I collapse time.

It’s been a game-changer.

I’m using my own process as a checklist for getting my next book done, and it’s walking my first beta users towards the finish line too.

That’s the magic for me.

Freedom isn’t luck. It’s design.
And I’m not hiding that anymore.

P.S. I’ve even used this thinking to shortcut DIY projects, so I’ve turned it into a GPT you can play with.
If you want to take it for a spin, message me and I’ll send you access.

Gpt Core Philosophy

There’s a world of difference between lazy and efficient.
Lazy skips the craft.
Efficient strips the nonsense.

You don’t need to move faster — you just need fewer steps between idea and done.

Genius doesn’t need more ideas — it needs a lens.

In photography, we use leading lines — paths that draw the eye through the image and lead the viewer somewhere they can’t quite see, but feel they’re meant to go.

The lines guide you. They tell the story. They make you want to move towards that place.

When I look through my camera, I decide where I want those lines to lead. I strip out the noise, frame the subject, and let every element point towards the story I want told.

Your short magnetic book works the same way.

If you try to lead readers in twenty directions, they’ll lose interest halfway through.
But when every sentence, story, and idea pulls them gently in one direction — towards one clear idea — they’ll stay with you all the way.

One idea. One path. Lasting impact.

If you had a book that focused on one thing you do,
what magical place would it lead your reader to? And ….. what magical opportunities might it lead you to?

I was laughing to myself here when I realised that I never even posted anything about my last book. 🤷‍♀️

I wrote this last year during a book writing challenge.
The challenge was to get it done in 6 weeks. I thought that was impossible. And honestly, I would never expect anybody else to be able to create what I did in 6 weeks…..because I cleared the decks and I was obsessed. I had a small window and a clear runway and I went for it.

I knew there would be more books but I also knew there was no way I’d write another one the way I wrote this. I had no idea at the time that I would go on to build Magnetic Book HQ,the system that would make it the impossible possible…….

Book #4 is currently being written. Magnetic Book - The first draft was written in 2 Days. The goal to have it in my hand before Christmas 🚀 I’ll keep you posted!

The Book That Builds Authority (Not a Monster)

Most people think writing a book is the finish line.
It’s not.
It’s the launch pad.

And just to be clear —
we’re not talking about a 400-page life’s work that eats 2 years of your life and your sanity.
We’re talking about a mini magnetic masterpiece.

A short, powerful book built around one impactful idea that lights a fire in you —
the kind that moves people when they read it
and positions you as the one who gets it.

That one idea might be the only book you ever need to write.
Or like several of my clients, it might be the first in a series that captures your body of work —
each one a cornerstone in your authority architecture.

Because this isn’t about “becoming an author.”
It’s about building the kind of authority that lasts.

But most business owners & experts who want to have a book in their authority toolkit make it harder than it needs to be.
Blank page. Endless drafts. Months (or years) of overthinking — while the idea that could change everything stays stuck in their head. And it’s not your fault. That’s the old way of writing a book. And there is a better way.

You don’t need more time.
You need a system that pulls the gold out of your head and shapes it into something real - fast - without being tied to your desk!

That’s why I built Magnetic Book HQ.
Because your book isn’t just words on a page or a vanity project —
it’s the first domino in your authority architecture.
The thing that gets you known, booked, and remembered.

If that book’s been whispering in the back of your mind for months (or years)…
Consider this your nudge.

You’re closer than you think —
and I’ve built the system that makes it inevitable.

💌 DM me “MAGNETIC” and let’s make your message impossible to ignore.
