They told us that it would be in Saturday’s print edition and I simply didn’t believe them, so I drove to the Tops in E-town this morning to see for myself. I grabbed one from the rack and took refuge in the cereal aisle (the most festive aisle in any grocery store). I opened the paper and there it was, emblazoned on the front page of the Arts section. I exclaimed “Holy Sh*t!!” a little too loudly for 9:30am (even in the cereal aisle), and I showed it the cashier on the way out. (20th century vibes!) She calmly and plainly said “that you?” and was *almost* impressed, which counts for a lot on the North Country folks barometer. To say this is extremely surreal just doesn’t cut it…just, wow….🤯 thanks again to Rich Sheinin, @sinjunstrom, @nytimes taken in Westport, New York by @themill_adk

Phoebe Washburn (@betweensweetandlow ) is a New York City based artist whose site-specific installations repeats the actions that she has revisited for over 20 years, organizing her scavenged and stored building materials into new structures and assemblages.

Sacred Love (call me by my tool name) was conceived in the artist’s studio in New York City and resolved over several days at The Mill in Westport, NY.

Spanning across two galleries, playful, ridiculous, and inefficient systems tread the fine line between control and chaos as Washburn attempts to harness the energy of her creation. As a sculptural organism, Sacred Love (call me by my tool name) has become a living embodiment of Washburn’s process, activated by the sounds of her working in concordance with the radio sounds that have conditioned her practice.

Oh fall, you are so spectacular with your low sunlight. This is 4:55pm, just before we opened the doors to The Mill last Saturday. Amy Ellingson’s 8’ x 8’ stained glass window cast its brilliant colors as the crow flies. We don’t have an event this weekend, so it truly is the perfect time to come hang with us in all this glorious light! The Mill presents: Thomas Morgan
Saturday October 17th at 7pm

For nearly two decades, Thomas Morgan has maintained a consistent presence in the NYC Jazz scene and has grown to be one of the most in-demand jazz bassists today. Over the years Thomas has worked with Jazz greats such as Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, and most recently with acclaimed guitarist Bill Frisell.

Thomas Morgan will be performing music from his debut album, Around You Is A Forest. On the album Morgan plays bass and WOODS, a virtual instrument he designed using SuperCollider software which emulates pan-global string instruments. Morgan will be joined by Emi Makabe on vocals and shamisen.
