being a daughter. the eldest. one who experienced piggyback rides. trips to the mall. jokes. all the feel good daughter father times. those things as a kid don’t outweigh the lack of nurture or the presence of emotional strain left by a man who was a father but simply refused to be a good one. a man who lives in ego and chaos. a man i tried to make amends with continually with no avail. a man i had to cut communication with to find peace with myself. i refuse to prove my worth to anyone. i’m undoing the emotional abuse and anxieties. my feelings are valid. and if you relate so are yours.

inspo for this piece include:

father father @lauramvula
false prophet @geniawashere
bloodwar and silence, etc @gracecarter

this has to be THEE most vulnerable piece i have ever written. i def think if i ever convince myself to read this a second time i will get very emotional. looking at the video i am just now realizing how heavy the reality of this is.

i’m still piecing pieces of my past together as i continue to evolve. it’s very intense in my brain sometimes. but at least i am channeling my pain somewhere. it helps quiet the noise. 🤍

📸: @sashaslifelists thank you for capturing this. ☺️

last weekend i went to an artsy bazaar at mad arts in dania. here i created this piece during a poetry workshop. at this point resilence is my life’s theme & the phoenix has to be my spirit animal. no matter how many things have burned me i always rise out of it. a little charred. but still smelling nothing like i endured. at least most of the time. 😉💜 by @themusingsofmel

some nights, the heart has
nowhere to place all that it feels.

thank you.

this is a month overdue video.
but my heart really goes out to all
the kind hearts that i have had the
privilege of meeting through poetry.
poetry has given me a voice.
i intend to continue speaking.
as someone who was an unsure,
quiet, & unseen kid,
trust that’s a big deal. 💕✨ by @themusingsofmel
