Why do we tell stories?

Because facts alone don’t move people—stories do. They spark empathy, awaken memory, and stir the imagination. They sync our brainwaves and soften our hearts.

At The Nest, we use storytelling as a climate solution, one that centers the wisdom of growers, makers, and land stewards. We offer tools, mentorship, and space for their visions to rise and ripple outward.

Research shows storytelling releases oxytocin, activates multiple brain regions, and builds what scientists call “neural coupling.” In other words: stories don’t just inform, they transform.

Story is our strategy. Regeneration is our vision.🌿 by @thenest_uk

There's a golden egg going into one pack of eggs with next week's veg bags around Bath. No clues, no rules, just one lucky winner every week through October!

Four weeks, four winners, and a prize each time: a dried flower bouquet from the farm, a fruit box, or a bottle of local apple juice.

Eggs are one of the add-ons you can put in alongside your veg. Orders close at the end of Sunday to be in that week's pack list, so tomorrow night is the cutoff for the first one.
There's a note in the box with the egg explaining how to claim, so you don't need to be on here to win, but extra points if you share your winner egg here on Instagram!

Flowers, fruit box or apple juice. Which would you choose if you won?

Regenerative farm to Borough Market: meet Steven, founder of @13acreorchard.

We’ve been working with 13 Acre Orchard on how they share their story, so we wanted to start by introducing them properly.

The aim of the farm is to grow food as well as possible while the soil and wildlife get better every year. So the more the farm grows, the healthier the land becomes and the more biodiversity increases.

The stand at Borough Market is the other half of the idea. It gives organic and regenerative farms from across the country a place to sell in central London, and brings the countryside right into the middle of the city. It’s your local farmer’s market wrapped up in one stall, open 6 days a week.

Follow @13acreorchard to see more from the farm and be sure to visit them at Borough Market!

When was the last time you bought fruit and veg straight from the farm that grew it?

Here's five things to know about how chemicals can end up in our food.

Food production is shaped by a series of decisions made in the field, often under pressure to meet timing, consistency, and economic demands.

One of those decisions can include pre-harvest desiccation, where glyphosate is sprayed shortly before harvest. Because it is applied so late, residues can remain and move into the food system.

This has led to growing concern about both human health and environmental impact, alongside wider questions about how farming systems are structured.

At the same time, the UK has committed to reducing pesticide impacts and protecting biodiversity, while other regions, including the EU, have already taken steps to restrict this practice.

This is a moment where policy, farming, and public awareness can come together.

For Emma Loder-Symonds at @Noningtonfarms, using less chemicals on her crops has paid off. By giving nature a seat at the table, Emma has seen it return to her farm.

There are alternatives to using glyphosate for pre-harvest desiccation. Nature-friendly farming practices are proving that we can feed people without the heavy use of agrochemicals. Farmers like Emma are leading the way - and we’re asking government to support others to make the transition.

That’s why we want to #CutTheChemicals from our food and fields.

We’re asking government for:
⛔ A ban on using glyphosate to dry crops before harvest
💪 Stronger protections on pesticide residues in food
🌱 Support for farmers to transition to more nature-friendly farming practices.

The UK has committed to reducing the impact of pesticides on both the environment and human health.

But one widely used practice remains in place: spraying glyphosate on crops just before harvest.

This use has already been restricted in the European Union. Introducing a similar ban in the UK would help align with EU standards, while supporting progress toward national targets, including reducing pesticide impact by 10% by 2030 and helping meet global biodiversity commitments.

Glyphosate is used at scale across UK agriculture, with an average of 2,000 tonnes applied annually. Pre-harvest use plays a significant role in this, increasing the likelihood of residues in food and contributing to wider environmental risks.

This is a clear opportunity for policy to support both people and nature.

Glyphosate is used across UK agriculture at scale, with thousands of tonnes applied each year. A significant portion of this use happens just before harvest, in a process known as pre-harvest desiccation.

Because of when it is applied, residues can remain in the crop. Monitoring of UK cereals found that 41% of samples contained glyphosate residues, which can move into foods like bread, cereals, and beer.

At the same time, the UK has committed to reducing pesticide impacts on the environment and human health, including a target to reduce environmental impact by 10% by 2030, and broader global commitments to reduce pesticide risk.

A ban on pre-harvest use is being proposed as one step toward meeting those goals, while also supporting a shift toward more sustainable farming practices.

This is where public understanding matters.

Glyphosate is like a security blanket - farmers know it works for drying out crops before harvest. But there are alternatives.

Emma Loder-Symonds at @noningtonfarms has drastically reduced chemical inputs on her crops - without seeing a reduction in yields. And she isn’t alone.

Imagine what could happen if the government supported farmers to move towards nature-friendly farming like organic. Less residues in our food, less harm to nature - and reduced input costs for farmers.

That’s why we’re calling on the government for:
⛔A ban on using glyphosate for pre-harvest desiccation
🛡️Stronger protections on pesticide residues in food
🌱Support for farmers to transition to more nature-friendly farming practices.

It’s time to cut the chemicals from our food and fields.
