✨ witchy book recs ✨

The other day I shared some of my favorite haunted house books to get you in the mood for fall vibes. Witches are next! 🧙

Sensing a theme? My MOST favorite subgenre is paranormal anything—horror, thriller, you name it. If it’s supernaturally spooky, I’ll eat it up. ❤️‍🔥

• DARK SISTERS @kristimdemeester
• THE LIGHTHOUSE WITCHES @cjcooke_author (will never stop recommending this one)
• CACKLE @rachelharrisonsghost (TBR but saving for colder days!)
• A SORCERESS COMES TO CALL @redwombatstudio
• CIRCE @madeline.e.miller
• TURN OFF THE LIGHT @jwalterswrites

✨ hauntings and haunted house recs ✨

Fall is (sorta, kinda) upon us. Let’s start with some spooky season reads, starting with hauntings and haunted houses. 🍃🌤️

The distinction is important IMO. Haunted house has evil in its foundation, in its bones. Hauntings reside or are trapped somewhere and evil unfolds around them. 👻

• THE SEPTEMBER HOUSE || Carissa Orlando
• A GOOD HOUSE FOR CHILDREN @katecollinsetc
• PLAY NICE @rachelharrisonsghost
• THIS HOUSE WILL FEED @maria_tureaud
• DIAVOLA @jennmariethorne
• THE PLACE WHERE THEY BURIED YOUR HEART @authorchristinahenry
• SPOILED MILK @averyelisabethcurran
• INCIDENTS AROUND THE HOUSE @joshmalerman
• THE HACIENDA @isabelcanas_

✨ all the stars book review ✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Midnight Knock @john.fram

This book has *everything* that I love. Literally everything. It’s horror. It’s paranormal. It’s weird. Its gritty and gory. It’s a locked-door mystery at an old motel in the Middle of Nowhere, Texas. It’s psychological. It’s emotional. It’s gonna stay with me for a while. It is that girl. 🔥

And my god, that first big twist?! Masterful.

I’m aware this won’t be for everyone and that’s okay. I loved it and am happy to simply sing its praises and get it on more readers’ radars. 💜

Thanks to my homie @the.grim.readers for putting it on *my* radar last year. 👏 taken in New York, New York by @thenycreader

✨ c’est chic ✨

Happy Saturday, friends. 💋

Life’s been busy with [good but exhausting] health stuff, and I’m feeling super slow with posts, reviews, etc. But creative juices were finally flowing and this one was very fun to make. 🔥

#kindachic, but make it horror. 👻

✨ beautiful book covers ✨

Q: What’s everyone reading this week? Mine is front and center: SHE’S A DOLL by @barbarartruelove via @aardvarkbookclub. 🪆

Call it recency bias if you must, but I’m honestly obsessed with book covers of late. 🤌

Neon galore, classical paintings, truly eye-catching design choices, and more. In today’s world of beige ass minimalism, the publishing world is really holding shit down. taken in New York, New York by @thenycreader

✨ five-star book review✨

There Is No Antimemetics Division || qntm

This was on my list for a long while and I’m sooo glad I finally got around to it. 🤌

Did I understand everything that happened? Not entirely. Did the antimemes already erase the book from my mem-? Wait…what book? Sorry, what was I saying??

All that to say, I loved the concept and vibes (even as someone who wasn’t coming from the SCP Foundation world). 🛸

This is genuinely scary sci-fi horror that’ll lodge itself in your brain and make you think about the world as we know it. Who really knows what we don’t know? What mysteries surround us at this very moment? 🫪 taken in New York, New York by @thenycreader

Three very different books (well, two are video game-centric 👾). But all that I recommend fully.

• PRETTY DEAD THINGS @kelseycoxwriter
• POLYBIUS @collin_p_armstrong
• DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL @mattdinniman

✨ Are any of these on your TBR??
