The other day, I listened to young business owners pitch their businesses for a ₦1m grant.

A few days ago, the Central Bank of Nigeria officially cut the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) down to 23%. But what does this actually mean for your pocket?

For Borrowers: If you are an individual or a business owner, the interest rate you pay when you borrow money from commercial banks is set to drop over the coming weeks. Loans will get cheaper.

For Investors: On the flip side, when you lend the government money through safe instruments like Treasury Bills, the profit you make is going to reduce too. Yields will cool down.
