4 yrs ago on a freezing cold night we premiered the film in NYC. Thankful to have Pedro Sierra and Jim Robinson join us. They are 2 of the many Negro Leaguers who shared their personal stories in the film. The theater was full of love that night. Never imagined how impactful this little grassroots film would become. The film is the centerpiece of an original DEI program that brings people together, sparks conversations and builds bridges. We’ve done programs with dozens and dozens of companies, communities, schools and organizations. So proud. Thanks for all of the support. This train is still rolling and hope to see you at one of our barnstorming stops soon.

Bob Scott passed away 6 years ago. He was the first player we met and became a good friend. His passion was making sure kids had access to play the game he loved. At 16 he was scouted by the NY Black Yankees and after his Mom gave permission he boarded the team bus and headed to NYC from Macon, GA. #Negroleagues #fortheloveofthegame #nyblackyankees by @theotherboysofsummer

When have you seen a stadium this full 40 minutes before the first pitch? Went to the @thesavbananas in Staten Island in 2023 and this was the view at around 6:25.

The Negro Leagues didn’t have a Pitch Clock, but they did have incredible talent and entertainment. Don’t be fooled by Goose Tatum’s antics. He could play. He signed a contract with the Negro Leagues as a teen and became an allstar. You may know him better for his prominence with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Jim Robinson passed away 6 years ago today. He was a Negro Leagues pioneer who became a good friend. We interviewed him for the film in Central Park in 2007, where he played baseball growing up.

2019 - NYC, The Cooper Union.

He attended NCA&T on a baseball scholarship that was made possible thanks to Roy Campanella.

Jimmy was very proud to be invited to the White House by President Obama.

Shea Stadium. Photo with Rachel Robinson (believe this was 4/15/2004). The Mets showed respect to the Negro Leaguers and invited players to be part of the celebration on Jackie Robinson Day.

We stayed in touch over the years. He enjoyed golfing and attending ballgames and was often a spectator at Harlem Little League games. He’d always send handwritten holiday cards. He gave us his baseball card and other photos we cherish. RIP Jimmy by @theotherboysofsummer

Found this sweet image of Rube Foster, the "Father of the Negro Leagues". He was born 9/17/1879 in Calvert, TX. He was a star player in the early 1900's before taking on managing and ownership and ultimately founding the Negro National League in 1920. He's enshrined in the HOF. Rube is second from the left. CI Taylor, owner of the Indianapolis ABC's, is on the far right. More about the photo in the 2nd picture. We don't own this picture, but found the info doing our research and thought it's pretty cool to see. #americanhistory #entrepreneurship #Blackownedbusiness #NegroLeagues by @theotherboysofsummer

Buck Leonard was born 9/8/1907 in Rocky Mount, NC. He was a baseball legend who played for the Homestead Grays. He and his best friend, Josh Gibson, were called the Thunder Twins for their incredible power at the plate. Leonard was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1972 and died in 1997. His family continues to honor him and educate people about his life and legacy.

He was an 11x All Star 1st baseman and won the Negro Leagues World Series 3x. After baseball he returned to Rocky Mount where he became a Truant Officer, PE teacher and started a real estate company and was a baseball exec in the minors.

@buckleonardassociation is run by his family and focuses on STEM education and providing access to sports and education.

So upon the directive from the great people @theotherboysofsummer I decided to visit the home of black baseball pioneer and founder of the Newark Eagles Effa Manley.

On this quiet block right off MLK Blvd adjacent to a Masonic temple parking lot, Manley and her husband Abe founded and owned the Eagles, running the front office and daily operation of the team out of this building on Crawford Street from 1941-1952. This was also where the Manleys lived and worked when the Eagles brought the Negro League World Series title back to Newark in 1946.

In 2006, Effa Manley became the first and only woman to be elected to the @baseballhall.

If you feel like these guys after a long week, hit us with a like or share. The original Banana Ball. 1946 - Crosley Field, Cincinnati. Don’t be fooled these clowns can play with the best of them. They’re just entertaining between innings. Bigger than baseball. #shadowball #negroleagues by @theotherboysofsummer
