This. Was. Such. An. Amazing. Night.

About 100 people in attendance! Thank you! And the Carl Verheyen Band actually played a mini show! And it was awesome.

Last night’s masterclass was *outstanding*!

Carl and the band are such positive and wonderful and talented humans. Once on stage and a few minutes in, I actually scratched most of the structure I had planned out for last nights event and just played it by ear…

Your guys’ questions for Carl were perfect and the vibe was so good that even though I have mic privileges, I just couldn’t interject most of the time and just listened…Carl has so many amazing stories to tell and so much knowledge to share. Just as I remember him from my time at GIT. 🙏😭

So many students came up to me after and told me things like: “I have some questions for our next lesson”, “I’m so motivated now”, “I need to practice more” and quite a few people who knew about the event because of the radio promo came up to me and thanked me for such an amazing event. It truly was.

Thank you so much Carl, Carol, Troy, Fabio, John, Hollye and Vojta for an unforgettable evening. Thank you guys🙏.

I think we’re gonna do this again? 🙏

Here’s a longer clip from my Jennifer Batten interview during the Jennifer Batten guitar clinic at the school I teach at. I didn’t know this existed until today, thought the battery of the 360 vid cam died right at the beginning of this shindig…. Well, maybe I’ll eventually get the entire interview, then I’ll post it for you guys to check out. Jennifer was awesome, it was good times talking to her. We both are GIT alumni, so we had stuff to talk about, although I was a student at MI much later of course, but we still know a lot of the same people. Good times.

The workshop was hosted by Musikschule Innsbruck on October 10, 2024 and the event organized by us in collaboration with @rockandmoreinnsbruck.

Die Musikschule der Stadt Innsbruck bietet für alle Singer-Songwriter, Musiker und Musikbegeisterte etwas ganz Besonderes an: Am 28. Oktober 2026 findet in Zusammenarbeit mit der Landesmusikschule Imst der bisher erste und bis dato einzige zweistündige Songwriting-Workshop (Vortragscharakter) mit Tito Larriva (Tito & Tarantula) statt!

Workshop-Inhalt: Die Songwriting Lecture
Nach kurzer Begrüßung, Einleitung und on-Stage Interview durch Moderator Patrick Weger (Fachgruppenleiter der Fachgruppe Jazz-Pop-Rock der Musikschule Innsbruck), werden Themen wie Songwriting, Kreativität und Inspiration ausführlich behandelt. Natürlich dürfen auch Fragen gestellt werden und vielleicht darf der oder die eine oder andere nach dem Workshop auch ein Foto mit dem Künstler machen und sich ein Autogramm holen!

Tito wird im Rahmen dieses Vortrages höchst unterhaltsame Geschichten über sein außergewöhnliches Leben und seine beeindruckende Karriere sprechen. Also lasst euch diese einmalige Gelegenheit nicht entgehen!

Über den Künstler:
Tito Larriva schrieb Musik für über 50 Filme (u.a. die Titelsongs für „Machete“ 2010 und „Machete kills“ 2013) und Fernsehserien. Der Startschuss für Tito & Tarantula war das Angebot von Robert Rodriguez an „From Dusk Till Dawn“ (1995) mitzuarbeiten. Die legendäre Performance als Vampire Hausband der „Titty Twister“ Bar und der weltweite Erfolg des Films brachte die Band (als Support von Joe Cocker) erstmals nach Europa. taken in Landesmusikschule Imst by @thepatrickvega

I always liked the X3 Live. Super outdated now, but I squeezed a lot out of this thing. It’s sturdy, easy to use, looks cool and that on board pedal is something else. Was gonna sell it a bunch of times, but somehow it’s still here and for what I’ve put this poor baby through couldn’t kill it, everything still works just fine. by @thepatrickvega

So here’s the Novocaine leads. I tell ya what the more AI takes over the more low fi punk rock I’m gonna get. This is the exact patch I wrote and recorded with and also played this thing live. Line6 X3 Live. Say what ya want about Line6, but that wah pedal on this thing has a sweep and a je ne sais quoi that’s just very expressive. I used to run this through a 100W Legacy with two 2x12 cabs and the sound was bombastic. Rhythm not so much cause modeling, but leads peaked imho anyway. And it was loud as all f. Sometimes I’m guilty and fall prey to social media exhibitionism, but this time I was just jamming and so in love with one of my personal faves of mine and the sunlight was just right to do a pass of..Novocaine. The toughness of it, the major 7th and inverted power chords, my fave drop C tuning and that badass bridge. I may do a vid with the leads too.. maybe. This song is, although instrumental, all in traditional songwriting structure and I wrote it like I would’ve done for a singer. This track has a secret history that would’ve definitely put it on the radio with a singer we all know RIP , but since that didn’t happen it’ll be one of my little secrets and will always be an instrumental for the rest of the world. I love that track. If you’re interested, punch in Novocaine Patrick Vega in some DSP or you tube, you’ll find it.

I get to hang with the cool kids and teach ‘em how to play some good tunes. Fire job I got. Pretty pretty pretty pretty good. Doing band coaching at the largest music school in Austria I try and develop at least one new act every year. My 8 year old guitar hero right here is gonna do more peak things come fall. 🔥

Playing around with alternating Gmaj - Em arpeggios with some extensions and a little extra towards the end. You can do whatever you like: go up and down, left and right, stop in the middle for a drink or 5, make out in the woods, race up the hill, enjoy the view and bolt back down in a zig zag motion like a bunny in heat…your call playa. Great enjoyment is to be had on the fretboard of your guitar with the little black dots that make life worth living (and ideally a 🐕🐾).

Economy picking - or picking in general can be tricky enough. On top of the basic 7b9 arpeggio shape used here, I here involve the pinky (which can be an additional challenge), a natural harmonic, a double stop and some imho tasty phrasing. Progression is || E | Fmaj7#11 ||
