Gala season is on!

It was so incredibly cool to attend the @sovereignportugueseartprize Gala Dinner & Charity Auction last night.

Even more incredible to watch @joanamolletart’s beautiful painting be nominated for a women’s award and then be auctioned off for charity as one of the featured pieces.

The weather extremes of Greenland 🇬🇱

One day we were hiking on the Bear Islands in tee shirts with the most breathtaking mountain views I’ve ever seen. 🏔️

The next we were huddled in the zodiac while we went through a layer of icey water. 🧊

Tripped and fell down memory lane. Egypt, Giza Plateau, 2022.

A trip to remember for many reasons, but here are some of the most unexpected ones, getting increasingly more unhinged 😅:

- 1st trip with my brother, ever
- The Djoser pyramid. By far our favorite and completely empty.
- The Valley of QUEENS (not kings - the one ppl usually go to). Again, empty.
- My third continent with @mashonthomas (including Antarctica and excluding North America, despite us both growing up in the Midwest).
- The first time @mashonthomas, @traveldeeper and I were all in the same country at the same time and met IRL after knowing each other via IG for years.
- Bonding over having a bad tour guide 😂.
- Sending my brother on a once-in-a-lifetime dive through a ship wreck with 5% battery on my GoPro😂.
- Getting invited to everyone’s house for dinner after just meeting.
- Sleeping on the Nile on the deck of one of those small boats. Just because.
- Cairo traffic.
- My brother getting hit by a car - not once, but twice 😅😂. And then getting free lunch and also making an appearance in a YouTube video to recount his story. (He literally landed on his feet and is fine. Not even mad about it.)

Sometimes the memories are in the mayhem, friends.

1 year in Portugal today 🇵🇹.

A lot changes in a year 🤯. I’m sitting here, in an apartment by the beach (that I own), thinking I’d hardly recognize the person that came through customs last April 27th.

Here are some of the numbers, in no particular order:

- Not 1, or 2, but 3 career changes from marketing to construction to publishing
- Speaking of, around 100 pages of a book written
- 1 visa appointment
- Dozens of surf lessons
- 16 Portuguese lessons
- 1 breakup
- 2 trips to Spain
- 2 trips to the US
- 1 trip to France
- 1 new car, followed by a break down, followed by another new car
- 1 minor surgery
- 1 new apartment purchased
- 6 suitcases unpacked
- 2 investment houses built back in the US
- HOURS of painting
- 4 great friends I got to host in my own home
- 1 night spent outside watching a meteor shower
- Countless sunsets
- 3 days watching professional surfing
- 1 month in a mindfulness retreat
- 1 new company started 🤐
- 1 stolen phone
- 262 days physically in Portugal

So that’s what I’ve been up to 😅. Highs and lows, adjusting to life in a new country, transitioning from a full time digital nomad to something ….decidedly different (but not too far removed). Meeting new friends, learning new languages and making lots of plans.

A month in the Algarve, a heart full. 💜

I did a month-long mindful colive experiment with 26 other strangers from around the world and I feel like I don’t even recognize December 2023 me.

We shared home cooked meals, sunsets, volleyball matches, oyster hunts and weekly grocery runs alongside our fears, our dreams, and our most vulnerable parts. We danced all night at a rave under a new moon, stared into each others’ eyes for minutes that felt like hours, dove in the ocean and did daily meditation.

And I think I fell in love.

Again.

With life.

With the stories of strangers (now friends).

Most importantly, with myself.

I started the year by getting my phone stolen and losing all my contacts and photos. But I already feel like I have an overflowing contact list and camera roll and it’s only February.

Take me back to Thanksgiving 2023 🐧❄️

I always spend this time of year thinking about past travels. And going to Antarctica with a good friend was definitely one of those memories that will always bring a smile to my face. I met incredible people and spent so much time with penguins I thought my heart would explode.

It’s a wild, fragile yet unforgiving, quiet place. And if you’re willing to risk 5-6 days on the Drake Passage, it will change the way you think about our planet - and maybe even your existence on it 🌎
