POSTS STORIES REELS

Hi to so many new faces! Let me (re)introduce myself 🫶🏻

My name is Debbie, and I’m the founder & clinical director of The Manhattan Psychotherapy Collective.

I’m beyond passionate about mental health, wellness, and holistic care.

I started this page in 2022 with the intention of making mental health topics more accessible and relatable, and to shatter the idea that therapy has to be cold and overly clinical.

Throughout my growth as a clinician, I’ve honed my expertise at the intersection of anxiety and complex trauma in women, using approaches that keep you moving forward instead of hitting that inevitable plateau. I love talk therapy, and I love somatic work too.

Enter @manhattanpsychotherapy: a practice built on genuine relatability with specialized expertise, where you can feel truly comfortable with your therapist while trusting you’re getting high quality, empirically-supported care.

We look at the whoooole you, because we understand that mental health doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

Thank you for being here! More grateful for this community than I can put into words!

To all the friends, family, colleagues and clients who helped us get here - thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And a big thank you to @hellomagicstudio for making my vision come to life.

As a perfectionist myself, trust that we are not coming after your perfectionism!! Only the maladaptive parts of it that contribute to your depression, anxiety and burnout.

If you’re looking to unpack this further, @manhattanpsychotherapy is accepting new clients. Free consult in bio 🫶🏻

Complex trauma, especially in women, often hides inside the things we’re praised for: independence, achievement, being “easy,” being the strong one.

If you see yourself in these slides, your nervous system may have adapted to keep you safe. But remember, it can learn something new, too.

Modalities like EMDR, IFS, and somatic therapy can help you actually feel the shift, not just understand it. If you’re looking to start therapy, @manhattanpsychotherapy is accepting new clients. Book a free consult in bio 🫶🏻 by @therapydebbie

Personal post ahead!!

Talk therapy gave me the insight and preparedness for EMDR, and I truly don’t think I would’ve had the outcomes I did without it. For me, talk therapy is my long-term support strategy, and EMDR is here for when I need to whip out the big guns.

All-in-all, everyone’s therapy experiences are different, and what works for one person might not work for another! This is just *my* experience and what worked for me.

Are you feeling love, safety + connection, or is actually relief from your anxiety in your relationship?

The three questions in the video are a good place to start to reflect on this!

Save this for your next gut check. If you’re looking to work on attachment, @manhattanpsychotherapy is accepting new clients. Link in bio 🫶🏻 by @therapydebbie

If accomplishing something feels flat, that’s realllllly common for high-functioning anxiety. When your sense of worth got tied to performance early on, finishing a goal doesn’t bring pride. It brings relief that the “threat” of falling short is over, until the next one shows up.

That’s also why more achievements don’t fix the “not enough” feeling. The goalpost keeps moving because the belief underneath it never got addressed.

A few things that can help:
• Notice the “ok” without judging it. It’s information!
• Pause for at leastttt 60 seconds after a win before you start the next task.
• Ask yourself, “Who did I need to prove something to here?”

Attachment patterns can change, and your body is part of how.

The brain stays adaptable throughout life, so an alarm response learned early doesn’t have to stay set that way. New experiences of safety, repeated over time, are what shift it.

That’s why I like EMDR, IFS, and somatic work for anxious attachment. They help your system process old experiences and build felt security, which goes beyond understanding why you react the way you do. Many people develop what researchers call earned secure attachment, which grows through new relationships and through therapy.

And DONT you frickin forget it!!!!! by @therapydebbie

This is why complex trauma therapy (and more specifically, developmental trauma therapy) isn’t restricted to processing the past — a huge part of it is also building what you didn’t get. And this includes childlike exploration, play, and joy!!
