“We used to be fun... what happened? 😅👶”

Becoming parents changes everything... especially your relationship.
This week, Jilly is joined by @emilyfayemiller & @camholmess (yes, the Too Hot to Handle success story ❤️🔥) and fan-favourite psychotherapist Jerilee Claydon to talk honestly about how becoming parents changes your relationship.

We get into:
👶 How your relationship changes after having a baby
🤝 Sharing the mental load (and the actual load!)
😴 Communicating when you’re running on empty
️❤ Navigating resentment, romance & reconnecting
💬 The honest conversations no one prepares you for

If you’ve ever thought, “We used to be fun,” this one’s for you.

🎧 Listen now & send it to another parent who needs to hear this. Link in Bio. by @therapyproject

The first three years with a baby are not the time to decide if your relationship works.

It’s the hardest stretch you’ll go through. Not the clearest. #threesummers #couplestherapy #matrescence by @therapyproject

Disagreeing is normal. It’s the repair afterwards that separates a healthy relationship from a struggling one. Small connections daily, go a long way. #couplestherapy #jerileeclaydon by @therapyproject

You don’t always have to lighten the load to ease it. Sometimes saying, “I see how much you’re carrying,” is enough to turn the loneliness into intimacy.
Being understood doesn’t remove the weight, but it reminds us we’re not carrying it alone. This in turn creates shared intimacy and a feeling of closeness. Which is the opposite to resentment which is what many feel when chores go unnoticed.

We talk more about this on season 2 @tommeetippeeuk podcast.

No. I don’t think so. You have to make it fair in other ways. The role of parenting itself tends to fall to one partner but it doesn’t mean the other can’t pick up responsibility in other ways.
Fairness after a baby rarely looks 50/50

When I give this example to my clients I talk about a squirrel. My husband likes to talk about the squirrel in the garden and it could be very easy for me to dismiss this during busy moments in the house, but these are the moments you make an emotional deposit into the relationship. It doesn’t take much to turn towards and join your partner in something they want to share and the return on this is the highest you’ll probably ever make. ❤️ #couplestherapy #threesummers by @therapyproject
