It has a career-long goal to stand on the red dot of a Tedx talk. This April, thanks to @aninditagpt I got that chance at @mlac.college . A well organised debut event for the management and team at MLAC with @abhinandanky leading the way.

18 years of my 25 year career has been spent forging pathways as an independent professional. Were there plot twists - plenty of them! Which is what made the theme of this Tedx talk perfect for what I wanted to share.

The link to the video is in my stories and will be in the highlight on my profile #tedxtalks taken in Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College by @therdplife

This past weekend, I got myself a byline in The Deccan Herald Sunday for the segment - The Big Picture. It's a story I really hoped would land a good home. I shopped it around quite a bit with editors till it landed in what I think was the perfect place.

The story is about how people are driven to explore food, not just as enthusiastic restaurant-goers but from a place of curiosity. People are signing up to understand how to read semi-academic food literature. Folks register for an online conference on fermentation and 3-hour weekend sessions focused on a specific alcohol. The thirst for knowledge is real, and the industry is delivering!

The link is in my stories today and will be in my RDPStories2026 highlight.

This year, St Mary's feast was on a working day when most of the family was not home. So instead, we did the celebratory meal today, when all could be at the table.

This year mom cooked everything and all we had to do was bring the appetite, which we did.

✅ Sannas (made for scratch)
✅ Karathey sukke (bitter gourd)
✅ Beans sukke
✅ Moong ani alu dento curry - more like a combination dish of sprouted moong with stalks of amaranth. A version of colocasia stems are usually used
✅ Kharamb - cucumber salad
✅ Soney sukke - black chana
✅ Vorn - moong dal and jaggery payasam by @therdplife

This year was the 14th Onam at the Prabhus. It has undergone some avatars but the bottomline being, everyone on the guest list either cooks a dish or brings something that goes on the banana leaf and we all eat together.

On the leaf this year
Rice
Sambar
Rasam
Inji Puli
Avial
Pachadi beetroot
Cabbage Thoran
Chammanti
Parippu
Kalan
Erissery (mathanga payar)
Olan
Pineapple pulissery
Beef dry fry
Ada Pradhaman
Palada Payasam
Buttermilk
Karingali
Mango Pickle
Banana chips
Sharkaravarati
Bananas
Papad

This year's sadya-inspired shot was ginger infused vodka served in a shot glass rimmed with jaggery powder and tamarind syrup with a tamarind sweet on the toothpick.

It was a blast! Maveli would have been happy.

And now on to Monday! by @therdplife

There are those places that you read about in the media; see hundreds of reels, stories, posts and feel like you know what you are in for when you finally visit. And then you have your mind blown away in so many unexpected wonderful ways... That was what @restaurantnaar felt like for me.

Making a trip exclusively for Naar from Bangalore was a distant possibility for me. It costs a bomb to make that travel plan. And then a media trip to Chandigarh opened the door.

The welcome letter in our hotel rooms said, we only have you for one evening, and that's all we need. And that was genuinely all that was needed to blow us away.

I can easily give you a dish by dish lowdown on everything, but I won't. Because you need to go to Naar and experience it. That first glass of wine overlooking the valley, the Living Room, where cocktails flow as freely (but I will say, ask for the fish bone cocktail, trust me) as the laughter and camaraderie and then the dining room where the magic continues. Service is seamless, the storytelling taut, the team moves like in a perfectly choreographed performance.

@prateeksadhu you have created magic in the hills. What an evening it was. Thank you. And @aashinakaul @sonakshi.soni and the whole team for your wonderful hospitality.

And if you are planning a trip to Naar, but may be hesitating, just go. I can now tell you it's something I would recommend, no matter which part of the world you are in. by @therdplife

@ikkpanjab is a brand I have known from afar. While several opportunities to visit have come over the years, somehow I was never able to make it. Yet it was part of some of my stories. Here is a brand that sends out humongous packages each year - but not once did it feel like a PR package. The shalgam-gobi achaar, the punjabi masala, the amla murabba, and so much more always felt like gifts from the home of a good friend.

And then finally, at the beginning of August, a chance to visit Ikk Punjab in Chandigarh came my way. This was to be part of The Provenance Dinner @theheritagegathering - an evening that brought together seamlessly a sit-down multicourse dinner of dishes from undivided Punjab, with soulful music. The incredibly soulful voice of @amysinghwrites that leaves you with goosebumps with every recitation. The powerhouse voices of @simibedi3_official and octogenarian Des Raj Lackhani ... It was all a reiteration of the wealth of culture and heritage our country holds in every state.

Thank you @rajan__sethi and @deepikasethii your hospitality is well and truly from the heart. Thank you for keeping this beautiful legacy alive.

@varshabala97 @sparkplug_inc thanks for organising it all.

@delectable_reveries The Heritage Gathering is an incredible creation. More power to your efforts

So good to hang out with my friends like family @thatgirlinmuddyboots @travelswithdeb @thatdoggonelady @indiawithinsia #offtherecord 😈

In my previous post, I suggested using delivery services to send supplies to the protests in Delhi. Many I knew did. Funny thing is, when I tried to do it, everything in the vicinity was unserviceable.

So I did the next thing I could think of. I reached out to friends in Delhi to see if there was anyone they knew heading to the site personally, that I could send things to.

I got two contacts, verified and sent stuff along. And then I saw restaurants opening doors, organisations setting distribution systems and people creating informal networks that magically became a means of sustenance and hydration to those on site.

And that is my story. I could only amplify work on the ground as my bit to help. But this has broken a 4 month long period of just not being able to write a story. The words simply flew for this. And I am grateful that this is the story that gets me back on track.

Doomscrolling is taking on a new meaning these days. And it can be overwhelming. But even then, there is something we can each do in our own ways. Just take a moment to step back from all the noise, and figure it out for yourself.

Supporting the right cause can be done in a million ways and not all of it needs to be on social media.

Be on the right side of history. And your conscience. by @therdplife

Editing to add: Turning off sharing and comments. A lot of people have shared my opinion on the good things about SL. But if we are to forever mark a people and a place by the violence it has faced and not the progress its people have made despite it all... most of this world should be off limits for travel. Seeing the obvious positives when visiting a country does not mean that I in any way diminish or take away from what has historically happened in SL or anywhere in the world. I myself have faced war abroad and returned a refugee. The onus is on each of us to make sure history does not repeat. I completely understand anger about the past (or even present) but I am allowed to have a long awaited trip, enjoy it and share about it, without it being more than just that.

Sri Lanka was an absolute revelation in cleanliness, kindness, cultural pride and living in harmony. Sure the country has been through hell and back many times over, but it's people, are the kindest around. It's economy struggles, yet it does not exempt anyone from being responsible citizens. And people take up their duties with no qualms. We can learn so much as a bigger neighbour next door. So so much. by @therdplife
