📖 Title: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas (Crescent City, Book 1)
🌟 Rating: 5 stars
🧝🏻Genre: Fantasy (with Romance)
🔥 Spice Level: 2
✨ Tropes: Murder Mystery, Found Family, Slow Burn, Forced Proximity, Hidden Powers

WOW. Sarah J. Maas truly is the queen of fantasy and plot twists. I started this book thinking, “Why does the first book in a series need to be 800 pages long?” And then I read it. And boy… was it a masterpiece. The first few chapters are definitely overwhelming, but once everything started clicking, I was completely hooked.

SJM somehow weaves together countless characters, mysteries, and plot points without making it obvious where the story is headed. And that last 20%?! PURE ADRENALINE. Twist after twist, reveal after reveal…! I genuinely didn’t see most of it coming. Suddenly those 800 pages made perfect sense.

🌙Should you read this?
YES. Every fantasy reader should give this one a chance. Push through the initially overwhelming world-building and trust the process because once this story gets its claws into you, good luck putting it down. I cannot WAIT to see what comes next. 🌙✨

Happy Threshing Day!! 🖤

As if today wasn’t exciting enough already, Rebecca Yarros blessed us with a novella literally titled “Threshing Day” this year, and I cannot wait to dive back into one of my favorite book universes (even if it’s only for a little while as we wait for Book 4)🥹

And a funny little coincidence: while flipping through the pages as I was taking these photos, the first dragon artwork I landed on was Dain’s red swordtail… and then today I bonded a red daggertail of my own on the new Dragonkind website. 😂❤️🐉 Apparently red dragons were meant to find me today.

⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️

Loved the movie, but I wanted MORE!! The fake-date Wednesdays, pumpkin spice latte, chocolate bar, academia critique… all those little moments that let Adam & Olive slowly give in to their feelings instead of rushing the romance 🥹
But Adam’s office being OLIVE GREEN?! The Star Wars references?! Mr. & Mrs. Evil?! They knew EXACTLY what they were doing. 🤭💙🧬

Recently rediscovered some of my favorite childhood books by Ecuadorian author María Fernanda Heredia 📖🥹

My parents’ home library still has these among its many treasures, so naturally I had to pick up Cupido es un murciélago (roughly, Cupid Is a Bat) for a little reread. 🦇💘 And I had SO much fun revisiting a story that made me laugh all those years ago. There’s something extra special about realizing a childhood favorite can still make you smile as an adult🥹

And a little fun fact: María Fernanda Heredia and I used to be neighbors! 🇪🇨✨

❗️BOOK REVIEW❗️

📖 Title: Promise Me Sunshine by Cara Bastone ⭐ Rating: 2.25 stars 📚 Genre: Contemporary Romance 🫑 Spice Level: 2 🫂 Tropes: Grief & Healing, Friends to Lovers, Slow Burn, Found Family

Perhaps my expectations were too high, or maybe I simply picked this up at the wrong time, but unfortunately… this one was not my cup of tea. I’d seen SO much praise for how emotional and profound this story was, and while grief is undeniably at the heart of it, I personally didn’t connect with the characters’ journeys as deeply as I expected to. Everyone experiences grief differently, but I kept wishing there was more growth…and maybe a little professional help!

I also spent most of the book waiting for the romance simmering in the background to finally hit, only to feel surprisingly underwhelmed when it did. Even the spice felt a little like it was there because a romance book was supposed to have it rather than because the story needed it. Ultimately, I just struggled to stay invested, and by the end I was more relieved to have finished than emotionally devastated by the story.
I know this book has resonated deeply with SO many readers, so maybe this is a case of the wrong book at the wrong time, or simply proof that not every beloved book will work for every reader. Either way, this one unfortunately fell victim to the hype for me. 🫣

⛴️ Should you read this? Maybe! If you gravitate toward slower, grief-centered romances where the emotional journey takes priority over the love story, there’s clearly a reason so many readers have connected with this one. But if you’re picking it up because you’ve heard it’s going to emotionally destroy you… I’d manage those expectations. It definitely didn’t hit me that way.

METAL SLINGER 🌟Rating: 5
🗡️Genre: Romantasy 🌶️Spice: 2?  ❤️‍🔥The vibe: high stakes • messy romance • twists on twists

OH. MY. GOD. 🤯
This book was fun and frustrating and exciting and annoying and somehow I ate up every second of it.
Were some things a little too convenient? Yes. Did that stop me from immediately buying book two? Absolutely not.

Because THAT TWIST??? 😧 Very few books manage to genuinely catch me off guard anymore, but this one completely snuck up on me.

Never saw it coming. Will never get over it.

You can’t tell me this is the end of the series.🙅🏻‍♀️

I jumped into this IMMEDIATELY after Metal Slinger and absolutely carried that high with me.

Trouble? ✓
High stakes? ✓
Deception? ✓
Chemistry? ✓
Messer? 10/10.
Satisfying conclusion? …we need to talk.

‼️STOP SWIPING HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS‼️

⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️

The closer I got to the end, the more it felt like everything we had been building toward was suddenly wrapped up as quickly and conveniently as possible.

The yellow butterflies? Kai?? Acker’s new power AND additional trauma??? MESSER?! There were so many loose ends that I genuinely cannot understand how this is supposed to be the end 😩

And don’t even get me started on a book called Light Wielder giving us approximately five minutes of actual light wielding😒

Did I have complaints? Many. Did I still devour the entire thing? Unfortunately, yes.

PS: Both books desperately needed another editing pass. The amount of spelling and grammatical errors was uncanny. taken in Canada by @thereadingemy

But I’m loving it! (And I’m loving my Kindle) 🤍🤭
