📣 Meet Judge #6: Christopher Jones

The Yardfest judging panel just got a little more CREATIVE.
We’re excited to welcome Christopher Jones to the official judging panel for Yardfest: A Divine 9 Alumni Stroll-Off!

A proud University of Tennessee alumnus and member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Christopher combines his creative talents with a deep passion for service.

From painting community murals to working on national branding and design projects for his fraternity and mission-driven organizations including the National Urban League and United Way, Christopher has used his creativity to make an impact far beyond the canvas.

His commitment to service has also earned him recognition as one of UT’s Alumni Volunteer 40 Under 40, and he recently completed a two-year term on the board of the 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta.

Now, Christopher has come full circle, bringing his passion for creativity and education to the classroom, where he teaches graphic design to high school students throughout the Atlanta metro area.

With an eye for creativity, precision, and presentation, we’re excited to have Christopher helping us determine which team brings the total package to the Yard! 👀🏆

One of my favorite bookstores in the Atlanta metro area (B&N Cumberland) is officially closed. Sad times. I used to enjoy going to their author book signings. Earlier this year, I got to meet hip hop legend @sosobrat and beauty entrepreneur @darealbbjudy for their book release! But I never got around to posting it. These days I just try to live in the moment and enjoy experiences while they are happening without feeling pressured to post right away. #FlashbackFriday #DaBrat by @therealcj85

Grateful that I was able to experience the @obamalibrary in Chicago, IL this past weekend with my family, as a founding member of the Center. The Obama Presidential Center campus is beautiful, awe-inspiring, interactive, filled with art, and one can easily spend several hours there taking in all that there is to see and do. It captures many of the elements that I have known and grown fond of from both President and First Lady Obama and their lives in public service. And it’s a thorough history lesson on our nation’s history, democracy, their time in office, social justice and how ordinary citizens can take action to make it a more prefect union. And I could not help but think about my good friend who worked on Obama’s first campaign and how he would have enjoyed the experience too.

Although public tickets are hard to come by right now now, I’d recommend going with or without, as much of the campus is accessible without a ticket. I look forward to going back! @obamafoundation by @therealcj85

Over the last few years, I’ve lost and grieved over several people in my life—even some within the last month. So, I’ll admit that I was a little on the fence about attending an event on such a heavy topic, but I wanted to support my friend’s book release and I’m glad that I did.

@hello.darnell has taken his experiences of being there for people in their last days of life and facilitated space and language for others to be able to talk about death and grief in way that is actually healing and cathartic. What I thought was going to be dark and sad was actually liberating and I enjoyed meeting several new people. I look forward to reading “Never Can Say Goodbye: The Life of a Death Doula and the Art of a Peaceful End.”

Fun fact: Darnell’s travel company granted me the opportunity to experience my first international art residency in South Africa a few years ago and this was our first time meeting in person! by @therealcj85

Grateful that I had a few times to meet and hear the Rev. Jesse Jackson speak in-person in my lifetime. I will never let anyone make me forget that “I am somebody” and will always “keep hope alive.” May he rest in peace. by @therealcj85

This must be what Thanos felt like once he collected all of the Infinity Stones. Grateful to have had opportunities to meet both halves of one of the major groups who helped shape the soundtrack of my life and tell them, “Thank you.” #andre3000 #bigboi #outkast #atlanta by @therealcj85

Today was the last day of my first year as a high-school teacher, and I can’t help but think about how we got to this place. My grandfather was an educator for more than 30 years. I lived with him and we rode to school together in the mornings. After school, I walked across the street to sit in his classroom while he put his notes on the board for the next day—then we would go home. As familiar with this routine as I was, I did not imagine that in 2025 I would be in a classroom doing the same thing. There have been several times where I have felt his spirit with me in this experience over the past year and that has been a guiding light for me as I navigated the year. The blueprint was right in front of me all along. I don’t know if I’ll have the impact that my grandfather had, but I’m grateful to be able to continue his legacy of service in my own way. Pic 1 = My reaction to the outpour of love and support shown towards me as I celebrated my birthday earlier this week. (Keep scrolling)

I was a bit in denial about entering a new decade and amid all the other demands on me right now, I put a lot of pressure on myself to find the right way to commemorate the occasion. I didn’t know to where to go, what to do or when I was going to have time to pull it off. In the end, what felt right was to have some of the most consistent people spanning the various phases in my life (from pre-school to professional) come and together and fellowship in my home over my favorite meal: brunch! I never got around to having an official housewarming since I purchased, so it was nice to have my people over. I’m grateful to have a strong support system who have my back and make time and space to show up for me, even when the notice may be short sometimes. Shout out to the “what are we doin for your birthday?” crew, to those who came from out of town, my parents for making me 💯 and shipping the remote gifts, and to @millenniumquizine for catering the meal, and all of the messages, texts and social media wishes. A lot of people may know me by name or “titles,” but not everyone sees the fruit of my heart. Thank you friends and family for seeing me. This season in life is dedicated to building with my community. #Grateful 🙏🏾 P.S. I know I missed some folk in my haste to pull everything together in a short window. Hoping to do another gathering later in the year. #ThisIs40 taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @therealcj85
